I have eaten at the Canton Inn hundreds of times since 1982 when I lived on that side of Evansville. In recent years, I only pop in for lunch if I happen to be on that side of town. I know they changed ownership perhaps twice, and during recent visits I noticed the food on the buffet basically looks the same, but doesn't always taste the same. After today's experience, I seriously doubt I will ever return. I am practically a vegetarian, had a few pieces of different types of chicken, but mostly vegetables. I noticed that one of the chicken dishes tasted off, so I pushed it to the side. Within a matter of minutes after leaving, my stomach was cramping. I had to pull into a gas station to use their restroom. Before I could make it home I had to stop again and this time I had explosive diarrhea. A clear indication of food poisoning. read more

Canton has always been a family favorite. This has been our go to chinese restaurant for over 15 years. We ordered food today without knowing of the change in ownership, but we will not be back. Nothing tasted the same, or even good. The egg rolls were hand made under the previous owner (the original owners son), but these tasted oddly like the same store bought egg rolls I purchase when I grocery shop, not hand made. The hunan chicken had no flavor, too much chicken and little to no other vegetables other than broccoli. The general tso's chicken had an extremely off taste, almost like store bought sweet and sour sauce was tossed on soggy watery frozen chicken bites. The crab rangoon under the previous owner were wonderful and were my favorite thing on the menu, but tonight did not even taste close to the same. We will not be back and are extremely dissatisfied and disappointed in what our favorite chinese takeout spot used to be. read more

I was recently here for lunch on a Wednesday. It was noon, and they had a nice crowd but not real busy. I had not been here for years so I wasn't sure how good it would be. I was pleasantly surprised. We had reserved a side room for our group, and we were immediately showed to our seats and our drink orders were taken. The buffet had a large variety of dishes, which the servers were watching and refilling as needed. Everything I got was delicious except for the egg drop soup. It was watery with not much flavor. The restaurant was clean including the women's restroom, the service was fast, and it was an enjoyable experience. I look forward to returning. read more

Probably the most disgusting and disappointing experience I've ever had at a restaurant. All the food and I do mean all, tasted like peanut oil, and was so bad that my pregnant wife literally threw up the little bit she was able to eat in the parking lot. We keep trying. the fact they don't seem to care about food quality by preparing food makes us just give up on eating at Canton Inn. Tonight we ordered the Hunan Beef, Chicken fried rice and the Cashew Shrimp. the Cashew shrimp ruined the meal due to the total disappointment and gross soggy cashews. They should name it celery shrimp. it was filled with loads of celery, very soup like. It had 8 small shrimp and soggy, disgusting, cashews. This is a fairly simple recipe and should be made when ordered. I swear, we thought they must have taken it right off their buffet. Cook it fresh or don't bother to put it on the menu, cut back on the broth and leave a lot of that darn celery out! it was like eating celery soup. read more

Went to Canton tonight. One of the best Chinese American buffets in Evansville and personally the best hot and sour soup I have ever tried anywhere. Their version of Chinese American style food is A cut above most places. Even with the new ownership they have stayed top notch. Always happy whenever I come here for sure. And not close down the buffet from 2-4. Not sure why they do that... maybe people just don't tend to eat there between those hours so they feel it's wasteful or something? Idk... This restaurant gives me the feel of authentic Chinese Food that I had not have in a long time. Evansville is a small town so there is not a lot of option. Most Chinese restaurant is buffet. This place offers both buffet and menu. The price is very reasonable, abundant of food. We ordered dinner for 3 and there were plentiful left over to bring home too. Their egg rolls are just like the one I had when I was a kid. The egg drop soup needs some seasoning and the mushroom should not be in the soup. Other than that there food tasted great. OH MY GOODNESS! Hubby and I LOVE this restaurant. The food is HOT, the pans kept clean and full. The crab ragoons are amazing, hot sour soup delicious, spring rolls the best I've ever tasted since leaving Hawaii. General Tso was very flavorful with just the right amount of breading. Everything we sampled was simply delicious, the staff was warm, friendly and inviting. The dining room and bathrooms were spotless. We will definitely be back. First, the GPS took me to the apartments behind the shopping center where this place is located. The address is correct though. I went around noon on a Thursday and this place was PACKED!!! If you wanted to dine-in, you had to wait for a seat. I chose to get mine $7.00 buffet to-go. The food wasn't spectacular but it defiantly wasn't bad at all. I got the steamed rice, lemon chicken, crab dragons, and spring rolls. Everything was nice and crispy and I thought the spring rolls were great. I will start like this the buffet has no salads,everything tasted like sugar and or frozen foods. Chinese food has a sweet,heat to the chicken and most veggies are cooked with garlic and spices. I went in near closing today, and I must say even though they were close to closing the food was still delicious! I am new to Evansville, Indiana and this was my first time there. The manager/owner not sure which, was soo friendly, that he really made an impression on me. I am not used to people running their restaurants in a way that management goes out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. I will be returning here for any future cravings!! I'm really mixed in my experience here. The egg rolls and the crab rangoon were the best I've ever had. The rest of the food bar was hit or miss. The beef dishes were a little gummy; the chicken, too. I think they had been sitting for a while following the lunch rush. Some were good; some not so good. The service was the same way. The owner was very personable and ask us several times how we were doing; on the other hand, the waitress was rude rude rude. I paused for a moment while considering my drink order and she showed frustration like I was taking up her time. She was rude the entire visit.
