As a 26 year old male more accustomed to barber shops, I was super impressed with how welcoming Canvas salon felt. Friendly vibes all around, and the salon owner even made it a point to kindly introduce herself. A friend gifted me an appointment with a scalp treatment and haircut, and though I'd never tried a scalp treatment before, I came in with an open mind and was sincerely impressed. Paxton, one of their newer hires, handled herself like a seasoned pro. I'd heard a review that she had "magic fingers," and my scalp and hair would agree. I make frequent public appearances for work, so my hairstyle preferences are specific, and I felt right away I could trust Paxton because she listened carefully and checked in throughout the session, even teaching me a little bit about the products used. I'd recommend Canvas Salon and specifically booking with Paxton for a fun, personable vibe and top tier cutting and styling. 10/10 would come back again! read more

Aveda salons are universally good. I'm not sure of it is how they train their stylists, the products, or the atmosphere. I have lived in 8 states and have stuck with aveda through most of my moves because I always get a great cut. Salon is finished in a sort of industrial chic decor. The only negative I would say is the waiting area is minimal, with real estate being a premium that isn't a big thing. read more

Update - Owner has threatened me with legal action for posting my review after I asked for a refund instead of having her cut my hair for free. I can't wait to make a video and post more pics showing how horrible this haircut really is. It will take forever to grow out, but when it does, I'll post a pic when I get it cut and styled to look exactly like the sample pic I provided Ginger with. I've been receiving this cut and style from my previous stylist for many years without fail. I had a similar incident at a salon in TN over 7 years ago and posted a negative review. This is the only other salon I have left a negative review on Yelp. For Carmen to say that I have wrongly defamed other businesses like hers is an outright lie. She can't take responsibility for bad outcomes at her salon as other reviews have pointed out in their reviews, which there are indeed multiple bad reviews for, and some even name her directly. The proof is right there in the after pics. What woman would ever want either of the haircuts I have negatively reviewed on Yelp? No one, that's who - which I why I posted them to warn others. I did everything I could not to leave this salon in tears. I What else could I do? Make a scene? Tell them I hated it? I just would have bawled my eyes out and embarrassed myself even more. I tried telling Ginger that it was way too short when she started cutting it and she snapped back at me. I figured she would make the best of the cut and instead punished me even more for saying anything in the first place. I nearly died when I saw the back and was so choked up I couldn't say anything else. My husband was waiting for me in the waiting area. I knew he hated it as soon as he saw me. I didn't want him to think I had just wasted money we didn't really have to spend in the first place so I said I loved it and we left. How will I ever be able to justify spending money like this again??? The fact that Carmen is putting me through hell yet again is absurd, hurtful, and down right cruel. read more

The only Star in this salon is a stylist/colorist named Somer. I had been going to her for over a year. She's a top level stylist colorist and as you will see by my before photo, does an amazing job of coloring long hair without damaging it. Due to many things going on I had not booked with her soon enough (she is in high demand for a reason). I had been told I could see any other colorist in the salon and they would have access to the colors used by Somer. Because my roots had grown out and could not get in with Somer for a few more weeks I booked with Tara. ONE OF THE BIGGEST MISTAKES OF MY LIFE!!!!!!! As you will see by the photo, Tara ruined my beautiful long hair. I pay to have grays covered, not added. My hair was FRIED!!! Damaged so badly you'd think this was beauty school training. But no, it's an "upscale" Aveda salon in Powell. Thank God Somer did her best to correct it. The color now is much better, however as you'll see in the correction photo, even after several inches had to be cut off, I still had damaged ends. I love long hair and couldn't bear to have more cut off. Horrible management: while Somer was correcting my hair I was literally in tears at how damaged my hair was. I asked if the owner was there. She was too busy in the back with paperwork to be bothered to come out. I asked Megan the salon manger to let the own know I really needed to talk to her. The salon should assume some sort of responsibility for what Tara did to me. I waited a whole week for the owner to call. After a week went by, I sent a strongly worded message through their salon Facebook messenger. She finally called back and apologized for the botched hair and breakdown in communication. She offered a color correction free of charge and the following color free of charge. She also offered a complimentary botanical treatment and blowout every other week. I was fine with this - until today. I am a professional nail technician with access to professional hair treatments. Many of my stylist friends have sworn by Olaplex as a fantastic product to repair hair. I spent $275 on Olaplex products because I knows I had to take a proactive approach to doing my part to repair my hair. It was working; when I saw Somer again after using this she saw a noticeable improvement in my hair. This past week I used The Olaplex 1&2 which is a professional standalone treatment. I have been cautioned by my senior stylist friends to use this once a month and not more. So when I scheduled for a blowout today I was concerned the Aveda botanical treatment back to back with this would be too much. I explained ALL OF THE ABOVE to Alexis (another stylist at Canvas). She appeared confused. To no end it frustrates me when I am talking about treatments to "professionals" in the industry who look at me like I'm speaking a foreign language. Rather than calling the owner before shampooing me, she waits until I'm washed and in the shampoo bowl with conditioner on my hair to call the owner. Megan, the salon manager comes back to me while I'm in the shampoo bowl and says "we're going to have to charge you the $40 since you aren't getting the Botanical treatment". ‍ I asked her if she explained to the owner I had just used The Olaplex and just wanted the blowout. Well, of course she didn't: this is the same manager who didn't bother to tell the owner Tara fried my hair!! The communication and most of the talent in this place is nonexistent, dear reader. At this point I was so DONE with the B.S. and hassle at Canvas I left with wet hair in 38 degree weather. Book with Somer or stay AWAY from this place. If Somer happens to go to another salon, I will follow her but for now the DAMAGE IS LITERALLY DONE!!!! read more

I was in definite need of a color change because I felt like I was so unhappy with the color my hair was. My stylist here understood what I meant and showed me many different Pinterest hairstyles and colors. Stephanie their owner, is trying to set her Aveda concept salon apart from all the other Aveda salons in Columbus by making her shop more free to the stylists.This means stylists can focus more on their clients hair and not rush people out of the shop. I really appreciated this because I have been to other high end hair salons and it just seems they try to "fit you in" to their schedules. This means your time means nothing and that's not the case here. The stylists prime focus is you and that at the end your happy with the finished product. I was super happy my hair actually came out good with the highlights my stylist helped me pick. Now I don't have to worry about my hair looking too dark or red, my finished style brings out my inner me. I feel like I can now flaunt a gorgeous new do. I also appreciated my facial I got in between my wash. It was super relaxing after a hard day of working out for 2 hours straight! I highly recommend taking advantage of these complimentary services because they will make you feel more relaxed and energized once you leave the salon. i have been going to canvas for a good amount of time, i would say around 6 months. I've had great haircuts in the past, so naturally as one would i came back for a light TRIM , as i sit in the lobby a lady calls me up and i go sit down. I tell her 1/2-3/4 of an inch because my hair curls up around 3 inches when wet. She washes my hair, starting off good. Then when she starts to cut my hair, that's when it went downhill RAPIDLY. I close my eyes after 3 minutes of watching her. she tells me to open my eyes for a second and i look at my hair and i hold back tears. She then finished my haircut and I open my eyes to find the worst haircut (if you could call it that) that i have ever received in my life. i'm walking back to the couch in the lobby and i'm holding back tears as the lady smiles and says it looks good. i hold back tears. i come home and wet it down and let it dry. i'm telling you right now i will be begging my parents to let me stay home for a month before my hair grows back. i am very disappointed about this haircut. i've never seen my mental health plumit this fast over a haircut. i have been holding back tears and finally let them all out when called my friend. Go here if you want, but take an an appointment from the hood stylists. read more

The manager reached out and I headed back into Canvas to give it another try. Britt, an apprentice, did my color and it's a major improvement over the last time. Britt made an extra effort to make sure all of the color was rinsed away, which I imagine is easier since the wash bowls are new and so much better than before! I reviewed Canvas awhile back for my experience getting my hair cut by Ginger. I had been getting my brows done at European Wax Center and they did a great job but my skin is super sensitive and would break out every time. I've now had my brows waxed and tinted four times and have been very pleased with the quick process, great outcome and reasonable price ($30). My skin has never broken out and I have very little redness on my pasty self even by the time I get to my car! read more

I'm so happy I found this salon and Annette! I haven't been able to find anyone that "gets" what I want (blonde with partial highlights). It doesn't seem like it should be that hard to do, but getting the right color, the placement of the highlights and getting the highlights to the roots was very important to me...and others never completely came through for me. Annette sat down with me for a very thorough consultation, asked questions and LISTENED to my responses and gave me her honest feedback. Annette has a new client...ME! The Salon is very hip and trendy......The ONLY thing I disliked was the LIGHTING in the Salon. The bulbs they have in the Salon are NOT sufficient for seeing the true color of your hair and it seems like it would be hard for the stylists to see/ work under. I asked Annette if we could go to the front of the Salon so I could see the true color (which we did) a couple of times. Maybe on my next visit I will take a floor lamp to illuminate Annette's area....Lol The Salon would be PERFECTO if they changed the bulbs...but regardless, I will be back! I have two friends who have gone here and they loved it. I've gone a couple of times as a walk in and each time I've been told they were at training or something and no one was there for the services...ok. Now the two times I have gone for a blow out (with appointment) the end result was good but getting to the end result was painful. I don't recall her name but the gal who did my hair both times hurt! She pulled too hard while blow drying (and I've never had it happen before anywhere) and I just cannot go back to her. Yes, the second time I asked her to go easy on the tugging and while it was less painful it hurt enough that I have not been back there since. I might go back one day as their skin bar looks good but for hair? I don't know but if so it will be with another stylist. read more

I've been to canvas a handful of times now, and they are always consistent! I live on the other side of town on and I don't mind traveling to go here. It's worth it! It's a beautiful Aveda salon, with artwork adorning the walls. It's super clean and they use hand towels to dry your hands in the bathroom...instead of paper towels. The hair stations have a rustic look with hanging mirrors. They are services include; hair, waxing, facials, and make up. They also do blowouts, which I am looking forward to trying soon! It's tucked away in a little plaza off of Powell and Sawmill. The staff is always very friendly and they offer you a drink when you come in. They are very flexible and can accommodate almost any schedule. I look forward to returning! read more

Might be a good hair salon but, horrible for waxing. I went to Canvas for a maintainence eyebrow wax and walked out with half of my eyebrows gone. I was so unimpressed and unhappy with the shape and size their service provided; what was suppossed to be a regual touch up turned into a drastic change. The woman took out a chunk of my brow creating a sharp corner edge instead of a subtle fade into an arch and made my brows thin like pluck-happy high schooler. I'll give them a high rating on their professionalism though as the manager did not ask me to pay for this service. read more

This salon is great for men! I've had several of the stylists cut my hair and I've always been impressed with their ability to analyze, understand my hair, and cut it to perfection. They offer add-on services for free, my favorite being the mini-facial with steaming towels. You can definitely see the salon manager must invest in the team and their techniques. It's much different from other salons and barber shops. The environment is very inspiring. The stylists seem very passionate in providing their services. Left in tears, after being there for cut and balayage. No before pics were taken, I took my own thought it was odd as it was to be as a model. Was there for almost 5 hours. Was told that I should have 3 inches off to fix my hair, 2 were taken off. I wanted the cut if hair to frame my face. I showed pictures of cut, color, what I wanted what I did not want. My hair does not even look like balayage, looks like hi lites, balayage was not even color I wanted asked for. Was assured there would pops of color of super blonde. Was told to come back if I wanted cut and color to be fixed, and pay someone els to fix it. I have to come back in multiple visits. Then was told the more I wash my hair the more blonde it will become, yet dont wash it too much as it is read. Was assured person knew how to cut naturally curly hair. I came here twice to get my hair cut. The first time I came to get a couple inches out, 4 max, and the girl chopped off almost 9 inches! My hair grows slowly and it is going to take so long to grow it back out. Besides cutting off way to much hair it was a pretty decent hair cut. The second time I came, I had someone else and I told her about my terrible experience last time. She barley did anything to my hair, but what she did do was horrible! Kaili was so fantastic - I can't get over how great my hair looks now compared to the mess it was when I came in. Before she worked her magic, my hair was washed out and had several inches of dark roots (and not in a glamorous trendy way). Now my hair is a uniform color like I prefer but still has great tone and dimension. Even if you don't work or live in Powell she is definitely worth the trip!! read more

I have been an Aveda product devotee for years. I have been getting haircuts from Annette for awhile now. I have thick, coarse hair, and she understands how to work with it. This is the worst dye job I have ever had! Apparently balyage to them means dye the top of my hair several shades darker than my natural color so I has a "used car salesman covering gray look" and use a toner that shades the lower blonde portions slightly purple. I just had a blow out here and I loved the whole experience! The salon itself is super cute and the whole staff is friendly! The owner seems really cool (young, hip, beautiful and interesting!). Plus, her niece (who is an adorable little baby) came in while I was having my blowout, and it made me feel like I was a part of their community which I really like! ... but what I liked even more was they way my hair looked and how it held up! We are talking DAYS here, ladies. I've had blowouts in many cities (I travel for work) and compared to blow out bars I've been to this was by far the best. Recently moved to Powell, and thought I would give Canvas a try. The salon is beautiful, clean, and they offer a very nice discount for a first time customer. My stylist was very engaging, and very welcoming but she did an awful job on my hair. She left my hair very brassy, and very spotty. The owner did try to make it right; however, I was off work during the covid-19 shut downs so I took on a part time job to help get my finances back in order so the only day I have available is on Sunday, but they are closed on Sunday. They have offered no other option, or discounted rate on my next appointment, when I can make it in, or discounted rate on my next product purchase, not $10, not $5 . . . nothing!! They ruin your hair, and if you can't accommodate their schedule, then they don't care. Megan, the receptionist, legit could care less, and seems happy to have chased off a customer. Another concern is they are charging a covid-19 fee. That in itself isn't the issue, the issue for me is cos 101 you learn about sanitization, and cleanliness. Why am I being charged for something they should already be doing . . . like is sanitization, and cleanliness something new to them? read more

I've been going to Canvas for about a year now for leg waxing and Brazilians. Cara is AMAZING! She's incredibly fast and efficient and we chat and laugh the entire time. I completely forget that I'm half naked and having hair ripped out of my follicles.
