Last weekend, my friend and I decided to stop by Canvas for a late Brunch around 2pm and thankfully, we were seated right away. I absolutely loved the murals and decor. They were playing Hip Hop & R&B, music as well, which definitely created a nice vibe. Our server was very nice and gave us time to look over the menu. I love Shrimp & Grits but I was torn because they also offer Oxtails & Grits as well, which I was intrigued about. I asked the server which one she'd recommend and she suggested the Shrimp & Grits, so I went with that. I also ordered a side of the Cinnabun French Toast, Home Fries and the Mimosa Flight. Our food was served pretty quickly. The Shrimp & Grits were okay, they definitely needed some flavor. On the table, there was a small amount of salt and pepper in plastic containers, which I thought was...interesting. Nonetheless, I used the little bit of salt and pepper that was provided and that helped a little. The shrimp were a bit overcooked as well. The Cinnabun French Toast were really good but I would've preferred the vanilla icing on the side. The Home Fries were just okay. My friend had an omelette and their fried chicken, which she enjoyed and the Mimosas were great! Overall, we enjoyed ourselves but I would definitely try something else next time. Canvas is located on Granby St. so parking can be a bit tricky but thankfully, street parking on the weekend is free. Definitely try them out if you're in the area. read more

Not a formal place. Hear me out, come with your comfortable shoes, the good energy and a good appetite. Their food was so good and their brunch menu goes from scrambled eggs to oxtails and grits. Come for the good food. If you want more than food, their music selection is great and after food you got options for hookahs. Service was on point, we always had drinks and constant checking up on the table. We came with no reservation and was able to sit right away. The grits were good, but just a little bit too salty. I didn't appreciate the pork chops being that small, but not going to lie it was good af. Definitely get the sauce on the side because it's a no for me. Sorry, not sorry! The eggs were regular-degular. The steak was really good and everyone else in the party definitely enjoyed the food and the experience. The new name is Cove, 411 Granby street. Went there today for Juneteenth with my friend. let's start off by saying nothing on social media, TikTok, Facebook or Instagram is that restaurant. it was dark no air condition only two people in there me and my friend and another couple and we were not seated. The carpet was dirty. The furniture was old and ragged. Nothing about that place was elegant. I would never go there again and I do not recommend. I'm not sure where they're taking those pictures , that they are using for promotion but it's not that restaurant it's false advertisement. We came here for brunch on a Saturday, and we had a good time. The wait wasn't long. Customer service: Phenomenal. Our waitress was so attentive and amicable. She was very good at making recommendations, checking in with us, and keeping up with refills. Food: My meal was a 10/10. I got the Steak N Eggs. My steak was cooked to my liking and well seasoned. The scrambled eggs were creamy and delicious, and the potatoes were seasoned well. Drink: I got the "pull out," and it was so good. Very strong but good. One drink was more than enough. Atmosphere: They had excellent music playing, and the vibes were incredible. The music wasn't too loud where you couldn't talk. Fun venue on Granby Street. Pretty empty when we arrived but staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. First off drinks were fabulous ( try a white tea shot). Truffle fries also delicious as were the lamb chops. Curry chicken also nice size and great flavor profile. My only feedback would to be to fix the menu as there were a lot of spelling errors and strange pictures next to items that weren't being advertised on that page. I ordered the Cinnabon French toast that was supposed to be topped with berries and it had one half of a single strawberry. When I asked for the berries I was brought a tiny plastic cup of blueberries. Portions were small for the price. Didn't have silverware and when asked for it, got plastic ware. Ordered a mimosa flight but they ran out of glasses?? As a brunch place you would expect more. Maybe having more staff could help but definitely not what expected. My husband and I went there on a date night. We found the restaurant nicely decorated and the staff to be friendly. My husband had the fried fish which he enjoyed but not as much as I enjoyed my turkey wings. They are the best I have tasted in the downtown area and I had to telll chef Desmond that. Our only drawbacks were that, as an elder couple, we prefer the smoother jazz sound in the background as we enjoy our terrific dinner. The music was louder than we like. I would say Canvas Social (Hampton) is hit or miss, the difference comes down to preparedness for rushes at popular dining times. Strategic schedule planning would help this location a lot. They did recently open, so there may be more hires to come. I visited twice, once on a Sunday for Brunch and the other on a Wednesday for Dinner. We had a nearly hour and a half wait (we went shopping) and came back to a ready table. After placing our orders, it was about an hour before we received our meal, in the mean time they do have hookah and a full bar if interested, and this restaurant does not take reservations. On Wednesday evenings, they have a live R&B singer which was a welcomed surprise. The vibe was cool. The restaurant was pretty vacant, around 6 pm and started to pick up around 8. The food tasted better and came out much faster on this day. The server was also very attentive and accommodating. I thought by the menu the food would be better. The plus, didn't have to wait to be seated, our server was great, and the food didn't take long to come out. The shrimp and grits had a plate full of grits with 5 shrimp. The flavor was good but noted to add additional protein like my spouse did and got the fried catfish. Came for brunch on Saturdays around 1:00pm and there was plenty availability which shocked me. Service was good and food even better! I ordered the Fried lobster tail with red velvet waffles, scrambled eggs and potatoes. Very good! Had a grande mimosa which I didn't enjoy (I think the flavors I chose weren't a good mix) also had a lemon drop and that was great! Hookah was good but they only had two flavors. After visiting Nashville, Tennessee, I've yet to find an establishment even close to Layer Cake, Roasted, or Soul, but by golly, I've found it! (With help from Yelp, of course) From the time we walked in, we could tell that this was nostalgic, to say the least. Our hostess couldn't seat out party of 6, so we broke our party up to accommodate the space available (talking about a 2-hr wait...., not tonight, lmao!!!! After we were seated, Hookah menu, as well as edible menus, were readily available. We chose the Canvas Sampler (4 items from the appetizer section for $26) from the moderately priced menu. We chose: Fried Party Wings, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Mini Crab Cake Sliders, and Fried Shrimp (judging from the menu prices, it was the best and most logical decision ‍ The music set the tone and it was a mox of Hip-Hop & R&B, perfect for the occassions. The food was none less than phenomenal! I would definitely bring a crowd (seating permitting) to enjoy this incredible experience! Definitely will be returning. This is my kind of vibe! This is one of those places you hear about through social media, my girlfriend saw it on Instagram and was like, we have to go there but it's so hard to get in due to how busy they are...(really was just due to Covid). But we had brunch in a Thursday and the place itself seemed somewhat different. The staff was dressed in T-shirt's and tight jeans and the music was nice. The atmosphere was definitely urban heavy but I was shocked to see a few Caucasian women eating inside who seemed like the Grain would be more of their cup of tea. A *GREAT* place for date night or meeting friends. Fun (at a higher, but appropriately-fun volume) music, really good cocktails, and great food!! She had the jerk lamb chops and I had the chicken curry - they nailed it! Service was some of the best we've ever received (beating most "posh" places); they made our anniversary dinner very special (no table-singing, I promise). Fun interior decor. So let me start off with the positives. We stumbled upon this restaurant on Saturday night @ about 10pm and where drawn in by the music and decor. The space is a whole vibe! Multicolor lighting, beautiful furniture, art on the walls, clean, and really cool light fixtures. The music was exactly what we were looking for! There was actually a live performer (phenomenal!) and when his set was done there was a great playlist to follow. Great drinks, great services (let me say that again, GREAT SERVICE!), they have hookah, and I was happy to see they followed covid guidelines. Now, it pains me to have to say this.. the food was by far the most disappointing meal I have had from a rest in a VERY long time. With help from our server, who praised the food, I ordered the canvas sizzle. For just $21 , you get a nice size of salmon, a crab cake, a petite New York strip, a few jumbo shrimp, on top of grilled veggies with pineapple and a side (mashed sweet potatoes). I was excited when the dish came out! The presentation was appealing to the eye! I want to say the food was under seasoned but in all honestly, THERE WAS NOT ONE SPRINKLE OF SEASONING! Not one! You could taste the char from the grill and that was all. There was also no salt on the table to make it digestible. The crab cake was the only thing I would eat again, but it still just tasted like a regular ole crab cake. I would rate the food off this one late night dinner experience as a 0.5/5. However, I will be back for the drinks, music, great service and cool vibes which I would rate as a 5/5! I gave this overall experience a 3/5 because I would recommend it to friends and cross my fingers that the unseasoned underwhelming food was just a fluke. read more

I came to say this...I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience here! After reading the reviews, my party and I planned around the common obstacles other reviewers encountered. Ie. Long waits, out of stock menu items etc. We arrived moments after the doors opened and were greeted by a positive staff member! So, the vibe was set from the start. We were seated within three minutes. The server was super attentive and a great communicator about what the different menu items included. I ordered the loaded waffle with Mac and cheese and the chicken tenders with Marnier sauce. There was plenty of flavor and everything complimented eachother and made for a delicious balance and ended with an explosion of flavors on my pallet! The music was perfect for brunch!
