The office staff are very accommodating when booking appointments, and effectively manage to limit the waiting time. I first visited Dr. McKay based on the glowing endorsement of a highly respected oral surgeon, who has been Dr. McKay's patient for many years. I wanted to see a trustworthy and skilled dentist who could provide a second opinion on my (now previous) dentist's advice to get crowns on my upper teeth to repair the damage done through excessive wear and fix a faulty bite. This is a prohibitively expensive and aggressive procedure, which involves the filing, reduction and reshaping of existing teeth in order to make room for the porcelain caps. Thank goodness I received a second opinion! Not only did Dr. McKay clearly explain why I didn't need crowns, but he recommended a far cheaper and more conservative treatment--bonding--which would repair, strengthen, protect and improve the appearance of my teeth without reducing their size or integrity. Last week, Dr. McKay, with the help of his excellent assistant, spent over two hours painstakingly performing the bonding procedure on my upper and lower teeth. Before starting, he clearly summarized what was going to happen, and then just before each step in the process, either he or his assistant would explain precisely what would happen next. I appreciated the high level of communication throughout the procedure, which Dr. McKay performed to perfection. Not only did Dr. McKay do a superb job with my teeth, but he saved me well over $10,000! It takes me 60-90 minutes to drive to his office in North Vancouver, but I would never consider going anywhere else for my dental work.

I had an agonizing root canal situation--the kind that even hospital morphine couldn't touch. I was in absolute misery. On that particular Saturday, Dr. Winter offered to meet me at his office that very evening or even on the Sunday, just to help me get out of that excruciating pain. What's even more remarkable is that he was even ready to arrange for his staff to come in as well, making sure he and his team could take care of me outside of normal hours. It's incredibly rare to find a dentist willing to go so far above and beyond, especially outside regular hours, and to bring in extra help just to ensure a patient is okay. Dr. Winter not only resolved the issue, but did so with a level of kindness and compassion that is truly extraordinary. Lower Right: Dr. Winter did not inform me that the bridge made by the lab was too long and didn't fit. Instead of returning it back to the lab, he proceeded with its installation by adjusting one of the existing teeth and slicing the side of another one without asking for my permission or even informing me. When the job was done, the bridge was sitting lower than the original teeth used to be, creating quite a visible gap with my upper teeth, and leaving me with pain, which I never had on this side before, and which he was not able to address despite many adjustments he made. The only response from him was: "Just avoid eating on this side." Common sense tells us that one doesn't go to a dentist to do a major work in order to acquire permanent pain. I would never recommend him as a dentist.

My first temporary for my first implant was so nice, right in front, it could have remained as the permanent tooth. He since has started sending them out to be done by someone else, but I think Dr. Khodadadi does a better job on doing the tooth himself. He is a perfectionist and that is important when it comes to your teeth. I would have made him our permanent dentist if he were in the USA. Very disappointed I could not do that. Our coverage does not apply in Canada. Due to covid, we cannot go into Canada anymore. If you do live there or meet the restrictions, I highly recommend his office for all your dental needs.

I've complained to the personnel at Mountainview during and after the procedure, but only been offered a very disappointing solution. At first, I was really anxious and nervous because I had a painful experience with another tooth removal from somewhere else. Dr. Chau's staff on the phone reassured me and outlined me the options and pricing, regarding sedation or no sedation and put me at ease. The ladies at his front desk were so professional, patient and kind with me on the phone and in-person. In the end, I opted for no-sedation last minute because my dental insurance ran out so I had to save money as I am not employed anymore (lost my job due to Covid staffing cuts). Dr. Chau's front desk staff and a nurse were so kind and professional to me. I felt very welcome there. When it was time for my tooth removal, I was very nervous. Dr. Chau talked me through the removal, he said "I'm going to do this, and I will do this" and then in literally 2 seconds, he said, "Ok and it is out." I said, "What? That's it?" I was so surprised at how fast and smooth the extraction happened! I recommend to everyone that it is better if you get your tooth removed by an oral surgeon, since they have the expertise to do it correctly and quickly. I wish I had chosen an oral surgeon earlier like Dr. Chau to remove my other tooth too. Anyway, I have rebooked Dr. Chau to remove my next tooth, and I have confidence and much less fear now of getting a tooth extraction. I also found out that we can self-refer ourselves here. I had my dentist refer me for my 1st extraction, then I self-referred myself for my 2nd extraction. I highly recommend Dr Richard Chau and the polite professional staff here!
