I've had problems with this school from day one. They pick and choose who they're going to enforce the rules too. Do yourself a favor and don't pit your child here. The teachers are either worthless or overbearing. Lots of violence here. LEUSD and CLMS need a major overhaul in leadership. read more

My kids are sixth graders here and have had so many problems with the staff and students. The principal Cares more about making sure he is out front waving to all the families and not in his office handling problems that are urgent. read more

I went here for three years. The principal is a kind and enthusiastic person but, never deals with serious issues. I have had many terrible things happen at this school including being sexually harassed by a student and I wasn't believed by the principal or the consolers. I brought up many serious problems and was ignored each time. The food here is okay for school food but still absolutely disgusting. Don't even get me started on the librarian. She does not like the kids yells at you if you walk too fast, sneeze, cough, wear a hat, have water, or if you're a cheerleader she just yells at you. She also doesn't wear shoes on her feet wich has to be a health code violation. The school does have a good elective selection, with many leadership classes and different specialties. Shut out to Mrs. Gatrost who truly cares about her students. She teaches an elective called PLUS and she runs it amazingly. On the other hand Mr.Majske , who is an 8th grade ELA teacher teaches weird lessons that are not apart of the standard curriculum and makes the class extremely awkward. I think if you asked every one of his students everyone would agree he is not the best teacher. read more

Great school in a great community. The administrative staff has been wonderful every time I've gone in to either pick up or drop off my son at a latter time. The teachers all have been great and whenever I've emailed one of them about any questions I've had, not only do they answer them, but they thank me for reaching out to them and being on top of my son's academics. This shows me that they love what they do and they are doing whatever possible to help our children succeed. Proud to have a school like this in our community. read more

I just checked my daughter out of this school after 6 months of her attending. This school has an extremely racist culture that is upheld not only by the students, but more importantly by staff members. One teacher in particular, Ms. Solferino seemingly made it a daily point to single my child out during class and made several racially charged statements in the general classroom setting to a room full of impressionable sixth graders on a regular basis. This school needs to do a better job of addressing the many issues that plague the student body, not just racism, but there is also a trend of suicidal conversations constantly being had by students, something my child has never been exposed to until she began attending this school. In addition to this, there are WEEKLY physical altercations at this school between students. Almost daily my child would report on some obscene situation to where I was always left wondering where the hell are the adults???? It's extremely disheartening to send your child somewhere daily where they are not being nurtured by individuals who are paid to do a specific job no matter the race of the child. If you care about the mental stability and development of your child, don't send them here for an education, as that takes a backseat to everything else they will have to endure on this campus. read more

Trisha and Mary are worthless. They do not care about their student or people in general. My family is not well off and has run into some really hard times this year so when I heard that my little sister who is only 13 has not gotten a yearbook yet. I got involved. My mother told me that she wrote a letter to the school 2 weeks ago letting them know that she could not afford the yearbook this year and if they could still spare my sister a yearbook.They wrote my mom back 2 days ago and they flat out said no. Not a problem. So I wrote a check for my younger sister to give to the school this morning. Well I get a call from my little sister crying saying that they will not accept a check. There is only 2 days left of school and I wanted her to be able to have 2 solid days for her friends to sign her yearbook. So I called and spoke with the principal Mary. She put me on hold about 3 times and then told me that I could pay over the phone. Great! This would work perfectly since I was at work. Then she transfers me and I got disconnected. Not a problem. I called back and asked for the yearbook department and I was ready to pay. Trisha who apparently handles the yearbook sales tells me that I have to come in and bring cash. At this point I am fed up. I asked her if she could please send my little sister a yearbook now since it is now 11:00am and the day is almost over which means that she wouldn't have enough time to get her yearbook signed before the end of the day. Then I would come in as soon as I was off work to pay for it. Trisha says absolutely not. Then she says, " if we let everyone do this then we wouldn't make any money!" This isn't about money! This is about a kid that has 2 days left of school which is also her last year at this god forsaken school to get her friends to sign her yearbook. Trisha then laughs and says okay! see you later then! and then hangs up on me. I called the principal again to let her know what happened and she could care less. These people are careless and I feel so sad that my poor little sister had to go here. She has been so depressed lately and she has gone through so much at this school. She has had so many issues with being bullied and the staff doesn't give a damn. Don't send your child here. My sister is also in special ed. They did not let her go to the 8th grade dance. They didn't let her attend their 8th grade trip to knotts barry farm. They didn't let her walk for graduation either because she had a D and an F which is funny since all of her classes are with special ed teachers to "help" her. She is so depressed now and these type of issues are why disasters happen at schools these days. Because the teachers do not care about their students. It is truly sad. I am now pregnant and I would not send my child to this school if they paid me. These "teachers" and staff members need to remember why they went to school in the first place. TO HELP KIDS! All they care about is money and they are in this for the wrong reason. read more

School is really messed up. Mr Surman the counselor regulates his students anyway he wants when he feels like it. How are you gonna suspend a kid for hitting another kid back hit the next week because you're busy not suspend the kid that s throws the only punch. They wouldn't let her even in to ask me to use my card to pay for her. She tried to call me but the cell service is terrible and I have Verizon. Staff made her feel unwelcome and embarrassed. The staff, teachers, and families have been incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel like part of the community from the start. I have been very impressed with both the academic program and the wide range of extracurricular activities. Most importantly, our daughter truly enjoys attending the school, and we couldn't be happier with our decision.

I have never actually attended Perris Lake School but today I took a young man to the school today…read moreto pick up official graduation transcripts. I had the unfortunate opportunity to meet and speak with a front desk registrar named Julie Brown. I explained to Ms. Julie Brown that I spoke to the other registrar, Ms. Denise and that Ms. Denise was kind enough to waive the fee for the Transcripts ($5) and Diploma ($20). Julie Brown in the most condescending and disrespectful way told us, "well you can stand here I get off at 3:30. All of the registrars will make you pay." I asked if she would call Ms. Denise and she snatched the phone up and with a loud sigh and gigantic eye rolling called on the PA for Ms. Denise. Ms. Denise did confirm that they would wave the ($20) for the diploma but would still need to pay ($5) for the official transcripts. I proceeded to pay her with a twenty dollar bill and Julie Brown said, "I don't have any change and we only except exact amounts. You can get change at the liquor store down the street but I'm leaving in 15 min." I said ok and proceeded outside to the car. Upon leaving a family approached me and spoke with me about how disrespectful Julie Brown had been to me and thanked me for my service. I am utterly shocked at how horrible she was to me and this young man. I have no idea if she's having a bad day...but I pray she isn't like this to the kids or families that attend this school. The faculty should take measures to reeducate Ms. Julie Brown on customer service and communication behavior.

Avalon Elementary School

My son went to school here from 2nd-5th grade. He had moved over from a different district and the…read moretransition was hard at first. Avalon is HEAVY on the electronics. Everything is done via their school computer, including daily homework. This was an adjustment at first but once he got accustomed it was not an issue. Towards 5th grade, they actually started assigning some homework and assignment via hard copies. The atmosphere is great! Lots of extracurricular activities that kids can be a part of such as sports, band, cheerleading, etc. The school also puts out several school events throughout the year. Too many of you ask me but the kids enjoy them. My son never experienced any negativity at this school however I will say that there are some teachers in which he excelled with. Mr. Solorio was his favorite teacher and with good reason. He really cares about his students and ensures that all his students excel academically and socially. He goes out of his way to make sure that students feel proud of themselves and accomplished. All schools need a Mr.Solorio!! Only downside for us was the drop off/pick up line. No matter how many times they tell drivers not to park and get out of their vehicles, they never listen which cause the lines to get backed up. You're better off parking and walking to get your child.
