Overall a decent school but something is missing this year. You want to guess what? The one and only Mommy Cheryl Baber Thompson. (Chunk Bunk for short) I can't believe she retired and I was so disheartened and disappointed to hear she has retired as of last year. I heard the news from my kiddo Rebecca Jones, 8th grade. Never will there be another one like Cheryl Baber Thompson and I hope Madam Turk can fulfill her duty as the greatest and biggest teacher at Shivela so far. (No pun intended am I right Crystal?) My kids have had fun times here and my last daughter is leaving this year. I'll miss what my kids call "Papa Hamm" or "Big Brett BARTlett." Some may even call the assistant principal Mr. Brown the "Boot Duster Brown" as in he dusts boots. No idea what that means. We love Mr. Brown in this household. This school is the WORST thing in the world; every single one of my 15 kids that have gone here came out gay, lesbian, bisexual, or BALD. Like, for example, as even Brent B. has said, the school has some sort of balding disease. This school has horrible staff and has the kids becoming zesty. Yesterday at the school, I heard a kid say how he loves Papa Ham... unacceptable! I would rather watch Madame Web, Lesbian Space Princess, and Dean Witherspoon than send another one of my five middle children to this school. I was never inclined to be Emo until I sent my kids here. absolutely traumatizing experience, my child brought me home a slice of the school pizza once, and my stomach never recovered. neither did my toilet. my zesty younger brother Brett teaches here, and I feel nothing but deeply sorry for him. I was called to the office once to meet the principal, and let's just say....I lost some hair after that meeting. I don't know what it is about this school that causes hair loss, but the school principal has clearly had the worst of it. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy to go to this school. Our daughter has been going there for almost two years now. She is apart of the cheer team for the panthers. This school has integrated canvas and is setting everyone's child up for a successful transition from middle school to high school and college. Yes sometimes it may be difficult to call in at 8am when the school opens up. Try calling at 3pm. Never had a problem. Shivela is a wonderful school. I have had 3 kids attend this school and each of them loved it.

I can't handle having my kids going this school. My children were miss treated by staff and other students.

The school used to be bad but ever since Mr. Hamm became the principal the school has improved so much. The dress code and rules are fair but I've heard bad things like the dress code being strict on girls but not boys. The food is amazing and they have a wide variety of things, the counselors are amazing at their jobs to. Mr. Hamm honestly made the school so much better and also interacts with the kids on a regular basis and is welcoming to everyone. If I were you I would enroll your kid because mine had the best time there. read more

Ive been going to shivela for 3 years now and they teach useful imformation and make sure we're collage ready they do have some fights which normally get resolved and I'm in the middle of dealing with the one and only drug issue that ive heard of and drug issues are rare 1 drugs Could be better but we are trying our best to stay away from those and they do have canines that are used to detect drugs which they use to go through class rooms to detect any drugs, so we are trying to fix this issue 2 bullying Bullying is always going to be an issue at school every school some worse then others which is really sad but we don't really have bad bullying issues 3 staff and teachers Teachers and staff that work at shivela are kind and they all do their best to make us better humans and they work their butts off to give us the test score we deserve and to give us full dedication as a teacher two we trust them Overall this school is great and im giving it 5 stats read more

Honestly I love it here. I know it may vary and some may hate it, but It's such a good school. Most say they hate it because of their behavior, saying they get in trouble for everything when actually the staff here are very nice. A lot of these reviews are from parents, not from actual students who have probably not heard the truth from their child/children. People talking about how they don't do anything against bullying are either lying or they recently decided to do something about it. The principle makes it very clear that they do not tolerate bullying or discrimination of any kind. This is my second school year here but unfortunately I have to start homeschooling and I'm really upset about it. I will 100% miss it. My son only attended here from Aug-oct. and during that he dealt with three bullies. We went in the first time Bc kid took my sons hat and wrestled him to the floor he only walked away Bc my son started to cry, where was anyone? The adults? No where. We go to the office it's on camera we're told the kid will be talked too. The second time he's walking to his class someone yells out one minute left my son runs a little and he's tripped, kids laughing my sons phone cracked., where was anyone? We go to the office and we're told by Mr. brown "looks like an accident" we walk out nothing done. The last time the day of Halloween, my son already has anxiety from these bullies. He ask me to go mid day Bc he's confident to wear his costume and not get picked on, my poor son was wrong. 6th period PE! One kid walks up to him and punches my son,then tells his friend to hit my son, and he does it as my son says "No!" Where was anyone? This school is crap when they talk about caring for the safety and how they handle bullies. I made a report all three times and they treat us like we were the problem. Mr. brown especially didn't nothing. And they deleted him as fast as they could. If you want your child safe and not to worry don't take them to this school. read more

My child has gone here for 3 years finishing up the third year. It has been an excellent experience from the beginning. Every teacher my child has had have been great. Great communication with each one if I needed to ask something. I Build a relationship with the teachers to know they are actually amazing. I heard stuff before my child attending negative stuff and none has been what I've heard. Totally different experience. It's a great school from our experience made new friends along with still having the old friends and all get along. This school has made a good impression for us the staff to the teachers and the kids my child has made friends with. The counselor has done a fantastic job with my child's transition into high school. One hasn't seen bullying from our experience, but I'm sure it's out there just like every school, so hopefully in that aspect more can be done to prevent it one can advocate more with the school and maybe do more Rallies on this and make it fun and have kids more involved, because bullying shouldn't occur in any school it should be a number one rule. One has to be strict from the beginning. Sorry to hear about others kids who have been bullied. This is a not recommended school for your kids. Last Thursday my child had to sit out for P.E for the shirt he brought to school even though he had sportswear shorts and he had to sit out for 2 hours after the first hour it was break for them but they didn't allow my son to go which I'm very furious about and he didn't get to eat till lunch which was another 2 hours. This school TOLERATES BULLYING, IGNORES KIDS WHO ARE BEING BULLIED and does not care if your child is being bullied. NOTHING HAPPENED to the students who physically hit my son multiple times. He did not fight back. Other times, my son constantly writes written reports about people who call him names, make fun of him, push him, and throw things at him and NOTHING EVER HAPPENS. These issues do not get adressed and this school absolutely does not take it seriously. They even try to turn everythin around to make it look like everything is my son's fault. Today a different student was throwing objects at my son and he approached the student and told him to stop. He was making fun of my son some more so my son knocked the grapes off his hand and te other student punched my son twice in the stomache. My son punched him once in the face then it was broken up. These things happen this way because NOBODY IN THIS SCHOOL CARES IF YOU'RE GETTING BULLIED until someone ends up killing themselves, but i think that even then, they'll make it like the kid was depressed, or what not!!! I have been going to Shivela for three years now and all of the teachers are extremely supportive and really do care about your problems once I was dealing with some bulling issues and the school counselor took care of these issues right away and I don't think it is fare that we keep giving the school such negative backlash when its not true though the kids can be a little mean they would never pull out a knife like one of the other reviews described. Also if the school isn't doing anything to help the students it is because the student isn't telling any adults and adults cant just read the student's mind. The school teachers also give us the grade we worked for they don't just give us a random grade because they have better things to do they genuinely care about are well being and often go out of their way just to talk to each student. All of my teachers are extremely nice and I have 6 different teachers and I have seven classes ( I take zero period) the statistics show that the teachers and staff are not a problem the students also don't smoke anything there have been a few fights and none of them lasted very long because the staff quickly intervenes and stops it but over all I really recommend you enroll your child here because it is a great school and I rate it five out of five stars. read more

The staff insists it is a safe school. After repeated attempts to contact the principal and counselors, im not sending him anymore. Shivela is a good school and I've heard that it's the 2nd best school in Murrieta. It's very crowded and mostly outside, but it's still a great school. There are many nice staff and people out there. This school leaves a lot to be desired....I don't know if it is demographics, staffing, leadership, policies or a combination of it all??? The mix is NOT working. I didn't even think that Murrieta could have a "bad" school but if such a thing exists in this district, here lies the bad seed. There is NO investment/engament from what I can see. In all fairness, I do have a friend who has had really good experiences here and my child did have a handful of teachers who she really connected with but I just don't think the school advocates community, investment, engagement and pride the way that it should & I certainly don't think that they take parental concerns, requests and complaints seriously. I felt like it was "yeah, yeah, ok...." instead of feeling like a partner to be part of the solution. We encountered a few horrid teachers here - one who thought it was cool to hold the entire class in during their passing period if something wasn't to their liking with ONE student. I asked my kid to document each time this happened and for how long - apparently I was the first person to ever have a problem with it? The teacher straight up told me, your kid can use ANOTHER passing period to use the restroom. Gee, thanks for making that judgment call holy one....if all of the teachers felt so priviledged there would be NO passing period to even pass from class to class, much less use the facilities. I'm sure the teacher in the period after yours appreciated having their class time interrupted constantly for my child to pee because of your misuse of authority. It took months and constant follow up on my part to put an end to it and by then I completely checked out - any school that tolerates this type of behavior from their teachers after it is brought to their attention is condoning it in my eyes and their support is misplaced...it should be in their students. I don't like how they mix all of their breaks and lunches with all grades - keep the 6th and 8th grades apart if you are going to have two lunch breaks - Middle school is a social experience during a very awkward time for these kids and I think it is really sad that any student in any grade might not have either a lunch or break with their friends if they aren't on the same track. I also saw what Thompson did for their 8th grade grads compared to what Shivela did - what an unqual experience. The same district should be apples to apples....how can one have a cool luau themed production with stadium seating at Mesa and the other have some fake plants out on the track and ask parents to bring their own seats where they aren't even varied in heigh to see anything? Everything they do is subpar in my experience....and they did have one teacher who invested a lot of time in the jogging club (one of the ONLY cool things they even had there) and they booted him out and probably retained some of their bad seeds. Needless to say, I felt passionately enough about this school to enroll my next middle schooler into a charter school to avoid this pit altogether. read more

If you even have the slightest consideration of sending your child here, throw that away. There are better middle schools in the Murrieta area. Please, do not send your kid here. Shivela is close to a wannabe Compton. I spent the worst three horrendous years of my life there. I would never go back there. First, the facility overall is quite messy (as far as I remember). Gum is everywhere- on the seats, the floors (especially in the lunch area), and even on the toilet seats. My friend found a used condom in the bathrooms once. News of it spread throughout the entire school that week, and from then on I never used the school' s bathrooms. Second, the kids that go there (like I stated earlier, i'm drawing from my personal experience) are very shady. I' m talking about the druggie kind of kids. Someone in every class had drugs or knew where to get them from someone in the school. It was very poorly monitored during my time there.The bathrooms smelled of weed all the time. Honestly, I don' t think that the staff cared that much about bullying. Read Faye's/ Lisa's review. It' s scary accurate on how it is there. Don't get me started on the sub- par teachers that "teach" here. I had a teacher in the seventh grade that didn't teach us anything except for what we were doing wrong. We barely did any classwork or projects in that class. We barely got homework (although i'm not complaining about that). He' d spend the entire period talking about his petty, menial interestt. I'm not saying that's not a bad thing, but my point is that he NEEDED TO DO HIS JOB. Yes, there are some great teachers there (that are unfortunately stuck teaching there), but, you will eventually get one crappy teacher that will change your view of this school quickly. I was a personal student here last year. It was a very nice school to be at. I had good teachers and got along with them pretty well. This school DOES tolerate bullying, but only to a very short limit, so they can see proof. Sure, they've had a bad rep in the 90's, but that doesn't matter now.
