We have both stayed at the nature resort hotel as well as camped. Highly recommend both. For camping, Tanner Point is much better than chimney sloughs. Site 5 is absolutely the best site with direct views of the water but 6/7 (right next to one another so good for groups) and 8 are all lovely sites. Good tree cover and you can take the small trail down to the water for swimming/fishing. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table and lots of flat land for tents. For the hotel/restaurant, we stayed in K1 which has direct views of the water. These are not fancy rooms (no tvs or fancy furniture) but it was so relaxing and beautiful. We stayed in the RV part of the resort, which was just a 5-minute walk from the main restaurant area. RV pads are a full setup. Lots of trees. But my biggest complaint was that the RV pads are UNEVEN. They either have steep declines or inclines. It makes a huge difference when trying to level an RV camper and overall it makes the experience annoying. Canyon of the Eagles provided excellent service, personal attention, tasty food, lodging, and a gorgeous setting to create an amazing wedding weekend. 60 friends came to celebrate (most from out of town). We wanted to stay together and get to know each other while still transforming the space into a dressed-up wedding vision. They delivered this and more! Planning: Shout out to Shelby Carmack (logistics) who is amazing. From our tour, menu tasting, and our coordinator visit, she was spectacular. Her authentic love of the property, hard work, confidence, attention to detail, follow-up, and can-do attitude is unmatched. All questions were answered. I felt confident in my decisions. She reliably would track down answers. My interaction with Angeleigh Brieno (Event Sales), was originally just for the contract. I did not realize she would be there for the wedding. What a bonus! They both made sure everything was as expected. On my wedding day, Angeleigh worked hard right alongside Shelby. It was hot and they were on top of everything even when breaking a sweat. Angeleigh even moved rocks to the foot of my arch when it was falling over. So grateful! Shelby made sure our guests with mobility issues were cared for with golf cart rides. They both are the essence of what makes this venue so great! Guest Rooms: They are rustic but nice. The ones towards the lake have gorgeous views and lovely balconies to sit out on. It's a perfect mix for the nature lovers and "city slickers" with amenities for both including a comfy bed, fridge, and microwave. The first night, we were able to take advantage of the cul-de-sac of rooms and create our own block celebration with corn hole, food, and fun. Decor Staging: They provided a temperature-controlled space to store our decorations. Shelby had all ceremony chairs and reception tables setup well ahead, so we had time to create our wedding vision. At the end, a room was provided where we could move all the décor to organize in the morning. Getting Ready Room: They have recently redecorated and refreshed the getting ready space. It is perfect for the bridal party to have hair/makeup done and spend time on the wedding day. Food: Wow! Hats off to the chef. She did an amazing job. It was far from any buffet event I have been to. She personally attended our tasting and wanted to make sure everything was to our liking. The guests raved about the selections from the appetizers to dinner. You can't go wrong with any tier choice. The tasting food was so good we took the leftovers! Ceremony/Reception: Shelby helped select a perfect "first look" spot on the restaurant deck and cleared out the tables for us. There was a picturesque view during the ceremony at the overlook. Oh my the sunset! At the reception patio, I was concerned the cobblestone patio was too uneven - it was fine. Shelby worked with my vision of table setup which worked great. It truly was a dream when it was all lit up in lights. There is wonderful sitting areas just beyond the patio for guests. Just perfect. Room Booking: The only small issue I had was how the assigned room blocks worked and guests calling in to book. However, by check-in Shelby had helped to make sure everyone was accounted for and had been moved to the right room. read more

Just back from a quick two-night family getaway during COVID. I had been here once before a few years ago and remembered it fondly. The good: - The setting and rugged natural scenery is wonderful. I love being able to climb down to the lakeshore and take in the sunrise and sunset. I love that no one has a bad lakeside view at the restaurant. Many of the cabins have porches with rocking chairs that overlook the lake. - COVID is taken seriously here. You must wear a mask in all common areas, and guests seemed to be doing this. Furthermore, during the time we stayed, there really weren't many other guests, so it felt very secluded. - Special shoutout to the woman who works the resort's front gate (didn't catch her name), but she was fantastic -- very thorough and knowledgeable in terms of guiding us to hiking trails. - They are very dog-friendly. And the rate to have your dog overnight with you is a reasonable $25 per stay. - I enjoyed that the Eagle's Nest (on-site bar) remains open on weekends and serves reasonably priced cocktails, beer and wine -- including local beer from Save the World Brewery. The could-be-better: - This is my bad for not checking into the details before we left, but we were heartbroken that the pool is closed. The official reason was related to a county COVID order, but that surprised me, as most pools in Travis County have remained open, despite higher virus rates than Burnet. To be honest, a dip in the pool was pretty high on our list, and if we had known it was closed, I'm not sure I would have made the reservation. - When you stay here, the on-site restaurant is basically your only food option unless you're willing to drive about an hour round trip. We ate all our meals here. The service and food were inconsistent, unfortunately, and the restaurant was severely understaffed. Some of our meals were really delicious and on par with what I recalled from my earlier visit, but some of them were clearly a sign of the business being hit hard by COVID. - Subpoint for the restaurant: on weekends, they have a breakfast buffet. I like that they serve you rather than serving yourself, but this created a HUGE backup, with only one server on a Saturday morning, several guests waiting for takeout orders, and others in the buffet line. I actually saw one gentleman reach UNDER the plexiglas barrier with bare hands to get a pastry when the server wasn't looking. Not sure human rudeness can ever be truly avoided, but just something to take note of. - During non-pandemic times, there are a variety of camp-style activities (nature talks and walks, etc.). I asked at the front desk if there was anything planned, and was told, "There is hiking ..." Without a $75 reservation to go stargazing (and again, no pool), an outdoor movie was the only activity available to us. We did go hiking, but staying two nights fully exhausted pretty much everything we could do -- and drained our bank account with pricy meals. - I remember the rooms being fairly bare-bones and "camp-style." They are definitely in need of some updating. For the price point, you expect a comfier bed and some more modern conveniences. I'm really sad to say I wouldn't go back anytime soon, especially during COVID. The value wasn't there for the experience we had. I do hope for the best for this business, and hope someday it can return to its former splendor. read more

This is a hidden gem. I came impromptu with my dog and it was just what I needed especially with COVID still lingering and other stresses. The lake is beautiful as is the night sky - "a tapestry of stars". My dog had such a great time - swimming, smelling, rolling in the dirt and just being a dog!!! Also all the staff are so nice. The only reason this is not a 5 star is because of current circumstances - meaning their are limitations on services and the main restaurant was in a remodel. This is not a fancy resort. It''a rustic and perfect. No TVs in the room and a window AC. But the point is - YOU should not be in the room. There is WiFi but I elected to turn that off too for a few days. . We had takeout from the restaurant one night. It was good. We also liked all the trails as it is easy to make your hike as long or short as you wish. The only negative is there were a lot of sticker burrs that kept getting stuck in our dogs' paws. Not much the resort can do about that, but just be aware. We would return again. read more

I reported the issue with dirty broken toilets and the front desk just says "Big changes are coming" That's right, and it's called foreclosure. The restaurant is a hamburger grill with a $20 cold breakfast buffet . No live entertainment on the patio anymore. The house Asstrometor is a self absorbed jerk who makes the statement he "Can't accept tips but here is a jar for donations" for belittling and dancing around questions he can't answer. the So I asked the only person who was seemed to care about working and was cleaning the out side chairs. (For what reason I m not sure because the place was empty and no one was going to be using them because there are no lectures or nature talks like before.) " Why is it so empty? The place is usually very busy during blue bonnet season." And she answered "Oh, there's just a lot going on" No honey, this place has fallen down and can't get up. It's been turned over to a group of "we don't care" and the same attitude is hired to work or rather wonder around and take pay check. Well I guess at least the Patio chairs are cleaner than the toilets. But this is not a $200 a night room anymore. read more

Service: 4/5 Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful. Even though we had a very large group (40 people), they were always making sure we were satisfied or needed any help. Location: 2/5 It is practically in the middle of nowhere. The cabins themselves are on a hill, which is constantly flooded. So it is very hard to get from the cabins to the restaurant or lounge room. We had 3 people in wheelchairs in our party, which made it extremely different to get around the place. There is almost no concrete pads or paths to walk on. Rooms: 4/5 The rooms were decent, but they did have a strong AC, which we were thankful for since the average temperature while we were there was about 89 degrees. The decorations and amenities were pretty average compared to a cheap hotel. Overall: 10/15, Recommended! :) read more

A few months back we celebrated our families annual reunion at Canyon of the Eagles. We had 42 people in our group and we stayed 5 nights and 6 days! We had booked this place for our event in April 2019 so the management and staff knew our large group was coming and to expect us! Over the phone they made it seem like they were used to large groups and were able to accommodate us in the one and only dining room on property, so no need to book the "special events room". Boy were we wrong! The majority of staff at this place are very unfriendly and honest to God make you feel that you are a burden to them. It was ridiculous and almost laughable at times! Especially in the dining hall "meal times". We had made several attempts to ya know, have lunch (at lunchtime) like you're supposed to, and we were made to feel unwelcome and imposed on. I wished we had turned to YELP! prior to booking because there were sooo many other reviews that confirmed this behavior! The restaurant staff in particular and owners of this place should be embarrassed by how badly they acted each and every time we showed up to eat. Now mind you there is only one dining "hall" on property, so we all could 100% understand they might feel understaffed, maybe unprepared or perhaps a bit overwhelmed at times but the point is, they knew they were going to have our group on property for 5 nights plus regular guests dining in their restaurant. You are also allowed to bring dogs to the property and they must be on leashes. Which I completely get. Well one of our family members had brought their dog and she was running around our group while we chatting (as they just arrived), and her doggo had the leash dragging a One of the staff members came out to say: "Are you going to eat?" and we said "yes, just saying hello to our family", he demanded that we go back in and sit down or we would not be able to eat at our scheduled dining time. Ummm okay calm down buddy...it's only 5 minutes! But also he made a point to be extra snarky and say: "and oh, while you're at it get a hold of your dog!" and walked off. Not one hello, good evening, or welcome - just very rude abrupt and once again "annoyed". "Billy" another staff member always had this attitude of impatience, irritation and as if she had better things to do...she was rude to the teen upon closing of the pool at dusk and was a very unfriendly person in general to be working in an establishment like this. One of our family members actually caught her rolling her eyes at us one evening. The only staffers worth noting were James the helpful maintenance guy, Barbara the yoga instructor who was really great and very friendly and Steven the bar tender/assist manager. He was super friendly, helpful, welcoming and treated us like friends of the resort. And the planetarium/astronomer up on the hilltop. He was fantastic. The rest of the staff needs to take notes from them! Pros: -You can bring your doggos! -Lovely views of the sunset and sunrise on the lake -Cute little rustic cabins, some come w/ nice views of the lake! -Biking walking and hike trails -Paddleboarding & canoeing -Lots of exploring around property -Access to Lake Bucannon Cons: (Aside from the crazy unfriendly staff) -The fire pit is silly small for a property this size - enough benches for 6 -No rugs/mats upon entry to your cabin (floor get really dirty fast) -No place to put your clothes but on the floor (found lots of scorpions and big spiders in our room). -Cement flooring throughout -You share your cabin patio with your next door neighbor, so if morning coffee with your spouse or night cap is your thing be prepared to share. Suggestions: Maybe a small closet or drawer for clothes? Also maybe a table/seating area for your coffee maker? With what this place charges they could splurge on a few upgrades to make it more comfortable. Honestly those things could be overshadowed by great service, warm inviting smiles and a friendly atmosphere if they actually offered that - In our case ($2500.00+/per family) to be treated like crap the entire time, was just unacceptable even if we were spending $100 - No one wants to pay to feel like crap on vacation. Thankfully towards the end we learned to deal with the rudeness and to expect it! Sad but all true and nothing we could do about it but start making fun of the behavior and the whole silly situation. For the price you pay here you're better off checking out Yosemite or Colorado and have a much better time with people who actually WANT you to come stay at their resort for sure!! read more

Shouldn't be labeled a resort. We had quite a few hiccups in our stay, some of which were not the resort's direct fault, but altogether made for a very disappointing weekend. First, I would NOT recommend coming in the winter. This is definitely a summer destination. There is no hot tub and not a lot to do if it's too cold. We booked this "resort" specifically for the observatory which was cancelled due to 30 degree weather and clouds which, again, can't be controlled by the resort. I figured we could at least enjoy our massage from the outside contracted company that comes to your room...nope. They cancelled because of 30 degree weather and light rain. I even offered to drive to their studio in town and no dice. ‍ The live music at the resort was also cancelled due to weather. There was no sunset because of the weather. No kayak, no boat tour...a lot of the trails were closed even though I called before booking to make sure they were open year round. The on site astronomer Jim did put on a complimentary digital presentation in one of the event rooms instead of being able to use the telescope. He was a very bright man with lots of knowledge to share and we actually enjoyed it. We drove 4.5 hours to use the observatory so we were still disappointed, but again, out of our control. We ate at the popular restaurant on site three times. It was nice for a nature park, but not for a "resort". They didn't really accommodate anything off menu and only offered well water which started to tear up my stomach the second day. It was a good variety though I will say and what they did offer was tasty and well seasoned/cooked. Hats off to the chef for working with what they've got. They have a buffet option for breakfast lunch and dinner but it was pretty mediocre and some of it was cold. The cabins...they are definitely just that. Only a tiny 6 pack fridge and a keurig. No TV, phone, iron, closet etc like you expect from a resort. All of our curtains were broken so we couldn't even enjoy the lackluster cloudy horizon. Then our water heater went out. ‍ We drove 45 min to some wineries just for something to do and I'm pregnant so I couldn't even enjoy it. There isn't a whole lot to do nearby in the winter either. Long story short, don't come when it's cold and don't expect a resort style stay. I didn't ask for a refund because I know a lot of it was weather related, but I won't be making the effort to come back. read more

I have been coming to canyon of the eagles since I was little and I've stayed in the resort area, the RV area, and the tent camping area. The resort is lovely and reminds me of a nicer version of summer camp. The tent camping felt a little pricey to me but they do allow you to access the amenities and events on the resort side (minus the pool). Gives you that camping/rugged feel without any rugged. - Our view of the lake was awesome and I loved the patio and huge comfortable rocking chairs. - Group campfire & community feeling. We go early to our 5:30pm dinner reservation and MISS the observatory showing at SEVEN PM because our food wasn't OUT YET! The observatory would not accommodate the fact that the kitchen staff had failed. The waitress offered to pack up our food in boxes so we could RUSH OVER to the observatory to make it in time. But it's hard to eat a steak from a to-go container. The rooms were as advertised and the view was pretty. Not sure I'd eat at the restaurant if I go back. read more

We've been coming here for 9 years. Something has changed. Food was pretty poor, no entertainment, dock was broken and unusable (and has been for some time) bar opened at 2pm closed before sundown, nature hikes unavailable, music cancelled both nights of our stay and the most memorable was the tongue lashing given to us for not having a reservation when we went to the observatory! The resident astronomer, jim sheets, was so rude that one of his reservation only audience of 4 people, left after hearing him talk to me my wife and kids and actually apologized to us for him! read more

Absolutely loved this place. Relaxing and family atmosphere and several activities to do without leaving the resort. Very spacious back porches with nature and lake views. Very friendly and helpful staff. Only drawbacks were small pool and very expensive to buy forgotten items in guest services and Park Store and very cheap kayaks. Cheap Kayaks did not take away from the experience. We're bringing all of our family next year and our dogs. Very accommodating for dogs. read more

Stayed the weekend of April 8, 2022. Overall, a great experience. We stayed in the RV section and our daughter and her husband stayed in a cabin. The staff, everywhere but the observatory, were warm, caring, and helpful. The park is clean, has great hiking trails, a fishing dock and beautiful views of the lake and river. Very relaxing. We ate at the restaurant for lunch one day and dinner another (in an RV I cooked most meals), food was good. We took the boat tour, our captain was great. He was very knowledgeable, made sure everyone had a chance at pictures and complimented the guests that spotted something he had missed. I gave it 4 stars because of the observatory host, Jim Sheets. It was a bright moonlit night with many clouds, so our view of many of the stars was limited, not his fault. However, we arrived at the appointed time, but he had begun EARLY. He was EXTREMELY RUDE to many of the guests and would answer questions in a very condescending way. His attitude ruined the experience for us. read more

Canyon of the Eagles Resort, Burnet Texas Camped in a fifth wheel Rv, September 2020. We camped at site 13, full hookup site. The site was quite sloped, front to back, taking some effort to level our rig. Other than that, the site was spaced nicely with acceptable distance between neighboring campers. Navigating through the camp loop with our 13' tall fifth wheel wasn't too bad, though we had to weave and dodge many low hanging tree limbs. It is unfortunate that we pay hard earned dollars for daily camping fees, and yet the staff seems intent on not following through with basic maintenance, to be specific, trimming trees. Folks like myself, spend a lot of money on nice campers with the goal of being able to visit and enjoy our parks. We take pride in our campers, angered by low hanging lumber, scraping and gouging our units. We camp more often at state parks, expecting there to be occasional issues due to low staffing and funding, but Canyon of the Eagles is a private resort, charging higher camping fees. At a resort such as this one would expect impeccable landscaping and manicured trees. The hiking trails were wide, well-marked, and well surfaced. There was a hiking path not far from our site that connected with the trails along the lake. Our camping neighbors were very friendly, some weekend locals and others from further away. There were not lots of bugs at night. No mosquitoes that we noticed, just moths and the usual nighttime gnats that come with being near water. We ate one evening meal at the resort restaurant. The menu is limited, but the food is uniquely prepared and very tasty though a bit pricey. Overall, our camping experience was good. The only negative, as I mentioned, were the low hanging branches. Anyone with a fifth wheel or class A motor home needs to beware. Preselection of sites is not allowed; you get what they give you. There is no online RV loop map and no RV site pictures available. If you are new to the resort, the entry into the RV loop will be like "flying blind". read more

In a word WOW!! We drove up from Buchanan Dam to try the brunch. The buffet was over so we ordered ala carte from the menu. Steak and eggs, omelettes and eggs benedict were all delicious. As good as you'll find anywhere let alone sitting on a deck overlooking a lake. The service was equally impressive. The park is exceptional with great hiking trails which we took advantage of after brunch. After such an amazing good first impression we decided we're going to plan a little staycation at one of the cottages. The park, restaurants, observatory and cottages make this a true hidden gem of the hill country. read more

I cannot speak for the cabins but we are staying in an RV spot and I love it. The spots are huge and shady. The private bathrooms are great if you don't want to squeeze in your tiny camper shower. The lake area is gorgeous! We really enjoyed swimming in the lake. There's a nice sandy bottom and you don't need water shoes. The area is secluded and we brought groceries but also enjoyed driving into town to get food. The drive is really beautiful and relaxing. We do A LOT of camping and this is a place we will definitely return to. We didn't try the restaurant but I have plans to come back with the girls and rent a cabin and check out the restaurant. This is a great spot for girls trips, romantic getaways or family vacations! read more

I'm truly disappointed in this resort. I had previously stayed to camp several months ago with my 5 year old daughter and loved the site. There was even a beautiful Bentley and Rolls Royce club car show that weekend and I thought it was such a bucolic, peaceful and customer driven resort that I could, next time, invite family and treat them. I was terribly, terribly wrong. I had invited family to stay over for a long weekend retreat thinking I would spoil them. Despite renting 4 separate rooms and spending nearly $3,000 in lodging, food and drinks, we were treated terribly by one staffer in particular who made everyone feel uninvited. Despite bringing this complaint to the attention of management, absolutely no response was provided. Even in the least expensive of resorts, every compliant is listened to and addressed by the management. Certainly not the case here. Unless and until this resort's management decides to care for its customers as guests and not as cumbersome, intrusive people, my recommendation is to save yourself hundreds of dollars (if not thousands) and stay somewhere else. read more

So disappointed! -Lakeview room, yes beyond the public viewing area and 6 septic lids! -no carpet, concrete floors. One rug on the porch, gravel was constantly tracked in (shoes in your room are a must). No rug by the bed, had to use shower mat by bed and towel off feet before going to bed. -cute rockers on the porch but they were covered with spider webs as were swings and window seals! -sink faucets were on backwards. Not that it mattered much because the faucet was so full of lime that the water barely trickled out. -stains all over the Roman Shades -in room coffee machine leaked, made a mess each time you used it. Had to use white towels to clean up coffee and dry out my computer bad that was setting on the floor below. - no counter space near sink. -caulking aound sink was missing. "Rust" around sink (metal countertop). -for the amount of guests there were only 6 chairs and 2 lounge chairs at the pool. No where to sit or put your personal items. - the resturant was disapointing as well. Not nearly big enough to accommodate the number of guests. Limited menu and my food was ridiculously spicy! When I mentioned it to "unpleasant" manager she made excuses like," it can't be, it's only salt and pepper" and "possibly some of the Cajun spice (from my husband's plate?) Got on there". Service was so slow and my husband half fine, I opted not to order something else. At least they didn't charge me. -the staff overall need to take hospitality training. We spent a while lot of money and were treated awful. -Supposedly lightening hit the camp store (only the store?) And it was closed Saturday morning. Their computer was down. Nestled back at the end of a beautiful road is this lovely resort. Everything is done right: great lookouts, perfectly attentive and charming staff, decadent food at reasonable prices, and lots of adventures near and entertainment on site!! After a wonderful dinner of lamb shanks with rosemary (sweety had antelope burger for the win), we meandered around to see a beautiful overlook. We made it back to the resort patio for live music (awesome oldies). Afterward we hit up the public observatory night on site and what a treat that was!! We saw Jupitor, Mars, Saturn and many other things. Wildlife abound and the campsites are well shaded and kept well. We WILL be returning!! read more

I booked this trip as our first family time out in over a year. Just a few days to get away since we've been fully vaccinated now. We are still being very careful so I booked an outdoor type getaway. This place is loaded with cedar trees so, if anyone in your family is allergic to them I wouldn't recommend it. The staff at check in and room service were extremely friendly and helpful. They took care of the only issue we had which was the observatory. We also booked the observatory which sounded great. My daughter loves the stars and looking at them. That was $75 for a private 50 minutes with your group (up to eight people). If you can't do what you expected by viewing the stars they will take your money anyway. In my mind, if they can't perform the service you booked (through no fault of your own) then you don't get charged but, as they say, the show must go on, so you get to look at a tv screen while a person explains to you what stars are and shows you different programs about the stars. All the while trying to make my family and I feel stupid. No matter what your education or life experience is. I should have got my family and left but, I wasn't trying to cause any trouble. He was really rude and demeaning. Like my daughter said, it doesn't make what you say polite just because you put ma'am or sir on the end of it. You can still be rude. The observatory itself is just a tin covered building with 3 telescopes in it. It didn't appear to have heating or cooling but, I don't know about that for sure. That's not really my idea of an observatory. The resort itself is not quite a resort. Its at the end of a road that puts you about 25 minutes away from town and dining. So if you don't mind dropping $75 to $120 a meal then you're good staying on site. If not, it's 25 minutes into a small town with ok food. The rooms were $154 a night for the deluxe queen courtyard view room. There is a $15 a day resort fee also. The rooms are a 4 plex type, more like modernized cabins on the inside. Well not too modern anyway. Concrete floors were unexpected. No tv and no WiFi unless you're close to the office. Cell phone reception is weak but, there. The rooms are in some disrepair with torn window shades and the such. Dual heat/ac window units provide your heating and cooling and the mini fridges have no freezer section if you're looking for that. They were ok though. The amphitheater looks like it is in need of a lot of repairs. The beach was nice. It's really just a fishing dock though. There is a nice walking and dog running area there with cool rock picnic benches. There is sufficient wildlife, deer (a lot), possums, birds and cats. The trails were well marked and easy to walk. We really enjoyed that. I guess I went in with the wrong expectations so I was disappointed. I should have prepared for a more rustic experience than a resort I guess. Like my wife said, if the website portrayed it the way it was we would have prepared differently and had different expectations. Then we would have been happier. All in all it's an OK place to go. I've been here for three days of RV camping, so far. I'll keep it simple because I want to get back to the warmth of my campfire. This is the kind of place that makes me want to turn out all the lights. It's nighttime beauty far surpasses the incredible views and sightings of wildlife I get during the day. The view is nice. Try the wild boar! The gravy is excellent! When you leave the modern restaurant you're right back in the woods again. They have a public fire pit to stay warm and make new friends. Resort part is ok. Wife had spaghetti and meatballs, DON'T EVER ORDER THESE, SO NASTY!! Lady next to us ate as much as my wife, piece of meatball and garlic bread! If you are looking for a quiet get-away to nature this is definitely your place. We came here for a weekend at the end of September. This resort is located inside a LCRA park. Its like LCRA maintains the park and a resort company operates the resort. Our cabin was a short walk, and in each cabin there are four units. Our unit had a beautiful lake view, and we were the only unit occupied in our building the entire time. It was great to feel so secluded. Every morning when we woke up we could see wild pigs in the woods. When we hiked we saw a lot of little bunnies. Giant hawks were a constant presence. When you check-in the keys you are given have a flashlight attached. This comes in very handy. They do a great job of keeping light pollution to a minimum, so the star viewing at night is amazing. In the park there is an observatory, and there are star viewing parties every night. The rooms are not fancy, but they are well enough equipped. There is a coffee maker and a fridge. The floors are stained concrete, so if you are bringing your dog make sure you bring its bed. Speaking of dogs, they are only $10 a night extra, and they can enjoy the miles of hiking trails with you. There is a pool, and a nice restaurant. The restaurant food is tasty and reasonably priced. They have local wine which is also good and reasonably priced. Everyone at the resort was very helpful. If you are looking for a quiet retreat into nature look no farther. If you want to bring your dog they will love this place. We had a wonderful time, and we will definitely be back. read more

Disclaimer - this review is solely based on my attempt to first book, then cancel, a reservation at Canyon of the Eagles. I never actually stayed there. I had been to the restaurant at Canyon of the Eagles previously with my driving group, and thought it might be a nice place for my husband and I to stay on our annual vacation in July when my son goes to camp. So, when we had a free Saturday towards the end of the COVID-19 quarantine in mid-May, we decided to drive out there so my husband could see it and decide whether to book it. Our experience went downhill from there... First, when we arrived at the entrance gate to Canyon of the Eagles, I explained to the woman at the guard shack that we just wanted to drive in for 5 minutes so my husband could see it, then leave. She wouldn't let us without us paying a $7 per person entry fee. I offered that we would eat in the restaurant, and she agreed to waive the entry fee. I was also told that the entry fee is dropped to $5 per person if you stay there, not dropped completely. Not very welcoming. Next, we looked around and decided to book a cabin. While I went into the office to schedule and reserve it, my husband asked where he would be able to keep his fishing boat and trailer while we stayed in our cabin (the closest parking is far away from the cabins, and isn't big enough for a boat and trailer). When he was told that he would have to leave his boat and trailer clear down at the bottom of the hill, in the parking lot at the edge of the lake (and way out of view of the resort), he was uncomfortable, but the office staff reassured him that it would be safe. This is where I made my mistake - I went ahead and booked a cabin while we were still feeling unsure. I was never given anything other than my credit card receipt (for the deposit) to sign - no cancellation policy, no confirmation of booking, nothing. By Wednesday of the following week, 4 days after I'd booked the room, we changed our minds about going. We hadn't gotten a very good vibe from the place, and my husband was still quite concerned about having to leave his fishing boat and trailer unattended and so far away from where we'd be staying. So, I called Canyon of the Eagles and asked to cancel my reservation. Here is where the biggest problem occurred. First, the woman on the phone said that if I didn't want a credit to come stay there within one year, I could get a refund of my deposit BUT it would take 60 to 90 days. When I told her I'd still like a refund, she said it would be minus a $25 cancellation fee! This wasn't a short-notice cancellation, but rather almost two full months prior to the date. She said I should have known about this from the cancellation policy, but when I told her I'd never received the cancellation policy (even by email, which she suggested I should have received), she was still not willing to budge on the fee. So, bottom line - don't book a cabin here unless you: 1) don't mind being nickel and dimed with fees 2) don't mind your boat having to be left unattended a huge distance away from where you'll be staying and 3) don't plan on cancelling, for any reason, regardless of the current volatile COVID-19 situation. This isn't one of the companies going out of their way to make accommodations for changes due to the pandemic, for sure. read more

Not a resort, it's a campground with cabins. We've only just arrived and are not impressed. 1) The cabins have no amenities, very sparse for $186/night 2) The restaurant is booked solid before you get there (for both lunch and dinners throughout the weekend). Nearest place to eat is 20 minutes away. 3) You're charged an extra resort fee when you get there for "activities" that don't exist or that they charge you even more for. 4) The parking is incredibly tight and definitely not designed for pick-up trucks. I will say that the view is nice. I'll update this review at the end of our stay, hopefully it gets better. read more

IF, you are looking to camp, avoid at all costs. The lodge experience might be different and I want to be fair but as far as camping, just do not make the trip. Setting up your tent in your backyard might be better, easier, less expensive and ultimately give you what you are looking for. The camping grounds are very poorly kept, no options for grilling, they claim its near the water but A) its closer to the road and B) the water mind you is swampy grounds that in the end, provide more of a direct line to bugs rather than a pleasant activity. Stellar views and Hill Country nature smells. I love this park. Showers in rv area are some of the best, private rooms and clean, warm in the winter and cool in warmer months. Staff are nice and friendly. The only complaint I have and I hate to have any are the amount of dogs around. 2 per site makes for a lot of barking and a LOT of poop. We smelled nasty dog poop and had to dodge it nearly everywhere. As people become more and more "entitled" I suppose that can equate to being above picking up your animals poop? For people who have small children who do not watch their every step this is incredibly inconsiderate as dog poop is not compostable and nasty. So CotE, if your going to allow all of these animals in the park, you need to be more vigilant about cleaning up after your inconsiderate guests or cut back on the nuisance. read more

We arrived just before the rains descended. You come here for outside activities so trip didn't work out too well. We did try to hike a trail when there was a lull in the rain. But after we were a third of the way in, the rain began again. Tried to finish and ended up soaked, my left food hurting. Where we came out we were disoriented. Went to the entrance for camping. Not what we needed - we have a cabin. Dee Dee was there. She saved the day for us. She saw how tired we were, put Us in her car and drove us to the entrance to our cabin. She didn't have to do that, but she did. And she was kind, gracious and we so appreciate her. She is the star employee there. We will try again when the weather is dry!! read more
