After 20 years with CAP - Ryan Park, I am disappointed to leave this review. Our service provider yesterday was terrible. She failed to listen to my daughter and her father, made up her mind prior to collecting relevant information, and didn't perform (what I would have considered) extremely basic testing on my sick child. Since yesterday, my child's symptoms worsened and I sought care elsewhere. Additionally, the phone system used by CAP is terrible. It was never great to begin with, but recent changes have made it virtually impossible to get a person on the phone, let alone a person who is actually in the office that you are trying to reach. When you call their system, it takes an exceptionally long time to listen to all the instructions for the system, and then after you press the button to request to speak with someone, you are placed in hold for a call center. Ultimately, you are prompted to leave a call back number. I think they made it purposely difficult to get a real person on the phone. I am still giving this office a 1-star rating because there are a few providers that are fantastic -- be sure you see Dr. Moats or Dr. Kim. read more

My experience with the staff has been good so far. My child has been coming to this office since she was a newborn. She'll be 13 this year. My only complaint is that it is impossible to get someone on the phone for questions or scheduling. The only way to get an appointment is through the website but it is not set up for follow up appt. You have to request that through the website. But then no one calls you back. The only way I could get a follow up appointment was to make time to go into the office and request one. Then later on I needed to reschedule, but there is no way to do that online or phone. Very frustrating!! read more

After our daughter came down with a mild cold, we went to have the doc check her out. We usually go to the Herndon location but they were booked solid, so we got an appointment here at the Ashburn location. The check-in process from the car was easy. What was not easy was actually finding the place- its in a Kaiser Permanente Building, and there was no signage for CAP that we could find. Luckily someone inside directed us to the right place. We hardly had to wait at all in the waiting room, and the nurse and Dr. Moats were very friendly and helped make our daughter feel at ease. If it wasn't so far away for us, we would gladly see Dr. Moats again. read more

I have to say, this is the worst possible doctors office. I have gone to both the Ashburn and Herndon offices and both do not listen to you when you advocate for your child. This year alone I have taken my child 18 times to both office and every time I get the same spiel just give "supportive care." I am not a doctor but when I have to take him to PM Pediatrics (God send) and they are able to give meds that help him immediately- there's definitely something that's not being done at his regular ped. sick visits. I called this past weekend during their open hours and was on hold for ONE HOUR in which I decided to just hang up. These doctors never want to prescribe and meds. My kids are seeing Dr Moats since several years, she is amazing - we absolutely love her. Although the rest of the staff is another story. They are so rude as if we owe them something. Our children have been patients at Capital Area Pediatrics for about 10 years. We will be finding a new provider due to the fact, this office, although private, is still requiring healthy patients to wear masks in office. There is no scientific reason that supports this practice and the lack of intelligence in making sound decisions leaves me to believe they are not credible doctors. When I asked why they were requiring masks, they answered, "we're a private practice". More harm has been done to children than good and this office is contributing to that fact. read more

I am in the market for a new pediatrician for my child. I reached out to them for the first time last Friday. The first time I called, I was on hold for about 10 minutes in a queue system and then someone at a call center answered. I explained that I wanted to do meets and greets with two of the physicians in this location. They said I needed to schedule them directly with the office and transferred me to the office. I was on hold for another 10 minutes in another queue where I was supposed to be the first caller with a wait time of just one minute. It took more than the one minute quoted time. I finally spoke to the receptionist and then she transferred me again within the office. I was put in another queue and was on hold yet again for another 10 minutes. I spoke to another person from the office. She explained the office manager schedules the meets and greets. At that time, I was transferred yet again to the office manager's line. The line rang, went to voicemail, and I left a message. Hours later, someone from the office called me back and left me a voice message. They didn't identify themselves by name and only said Capital Area Pediatrics. They gave me the main office line to call back to schedule the meets and greets. I called the office this past Monday and was, again, on hold for 10 minutes before I could speak to someone. I asked for the office manager's direct line and left her a voice message again asking to have meet and greets with the two providers I was interested in. Today is Friday and no one has gotten back to me. It's unfortunate that they don't appear to value prospective new patients. Also, it wasn't a good impression to be on hold for 30 minutes total and to be transferred multiple times the first time I called. They seem to have lenghty hold times and not the best customer service. I plan to continue my search for other pediatric practices that are more organized and that promptly return calls from prospective new patients. read more

I really don't know why this pediatric center gets such horrible reviews. We've been going here since 2014 and we've never had a problem. Getting an appointment over the phone is easy, we've never had a problem with billing, and the front desk people are always friendly and willing to give out stickers to the kids when they leave. We've never had a bad doctor or nurse practitioner either, they've all been pretty competant. The only annoyance I have with them is that we keep bringing over paperwork to show that my in-laws have permission to take her in for an appointment, and they keep giving us new paperwork to fill out about it. read more

Horrible, impersonal practice. Dr. Gowda is ok, the process of getting a human on the phone is a minimum of 40 minutes--this has happened several times- and when I do , they are rude and dismissive. Then there is the ridiculous check in process that "can only be done online" and takes an additional 30 minutes for information they already have. I work for a living and I can't interrupt my job for bureaucratic stonewalling. This is hard enough with a well child; I can't imagine jumping through these hoops for a sick child. Which is why people end up in Covid filled ERs unnecessarily. It might be great if you have all day to sit on the phone. Stop being cheap and hire someone to answer the phone...who also has a good attitude. read more

Capital Area Pediatrics Ryan Park is great place. The receptionists are always patient and kind. I never have to wait more than 10 minutes to be called back. The nurses are very knowledgeable and experienced.My daughter is 7 month old and I am a first time parent.Thus, I always have lots of questions and the doctors always addresses my concerns accordingly. We love Dr. Christian but the new Dr. Gowda is a nightmare! DO NOT MAKE the mistake that we did of taking your child to her for annual physical! Due to lack of weight gain for our child, Dr. Gowda suggested various urine, blood and stool tests. All these were normal! She also suggested that our child see a psychologist! Really? A healthy, physically active child (whose parents tall but average built) did not gain weight may have psychology issues? Our child did complain of occasional stomach issues which we realized were caused by eating out and eating mostly frozen food due to our crazy summer schedule. We changed our diet and we have had no more stomach issues and our child has gained weight! But on every medical form that we request for school, enrichment activity, child work permit etc..., Dr. Gowda continues to mention that her suggestion to take our child to see a psychologist, was not yet done that! Grrrrrrrr. And even though Dr. Christian has been our child's doctor since birth, we are stuck with getting the medical form filled by Dr. Gowda till the next physical. Can't wait to have Dr. Christian do all future annual physicals again! read more

I am not happy with the front desk staff. I asked for an apt with a certain doctor. After going there, I realized that they had scheduled my apt with a diff doc. When I told them I had asked for this particular doc, immediately one of the front desk lady says "she is not even here, she is on vacay this whole week." When i decided that I should cancel my apt, the other lady at the front desk says "she is available later in the day." So I cancelled my current apt and had to come back later in the day to see my doc. But I am wondering how could the front desk staff lie so blatantly to cover up their mistakes. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Dr. Hill is by far, the worst, uneducated, overly confident to the point where it is beyond just confident. Being that her profession is dealing with children you would think she would have more liking to children. Some children more afraid of doctors than others, and especially a Physician who is rude and cold as Dr.Hill was to my son, he was crying frantically. She first proceeded to check the wrong patient, then misdiagnosed him, because later he was seen at the ER far worse at that time, because Mrs. Hill, failed to do her diligence in examining my son, her only concern was to get my upset child out of the clinic, as soon as possible. If you want to be treated horrible, spoken about and down to, and then have to take your child to the ER after being seen (3 times in a week)... go to Ryan Park... otherwise go to Loudoun Pediatrics( who actually seem to like children). read more

We love Dr. Moats (formerly Dr. Harwell). She has incredible bedside manner, is gentle with my screaming toddler, and takes time to answer all of my questions. The nursing staff is great too-they are super quick with all vaccinations which is much appreciated. My daughter has never liked coming to the doctors so I applaud the nursing staff on their skills and patience. The reception staff is mostly on point. There have been incidents where I have seen eye rolls from the staff or just felt like they could not be bothered to help. I get it-customer service is not easy and I am sure they take a lot of BS from parents. I do feel that the ability to brush off negativity would improve client care immensely. Overall, we are very happy at the practice and will continue to go to Capital Area Pediatrics for my daughters care. read more

This practice grew very quickly and I am so impressed with how they have kept up with very little disruption to their patients. I'm hoping to have to come back and update this to a more positive review. - we were told that we had to get the records for our kids and complete new patient paperwork before they would even give us an appointment - I hand delivered the records and the paperwork and was told they would call me later that day to schedule my kids' initial appointments once everything had been entered into the system. - I called back 2 days later after not hearing from them and was advised that the only well-check appointments they had were for several weeks later. - showed up for the first kid's well-check and was handed the new patient paperwork. evidently what I submitted weeks prior hadn't made it into the system. - during the well-check, the nurse and the doctor said they needed my kid's records. turns out they not only hadn't entered the records into the system, they weren't even certain where they were - after half an hour of trying to track down the records, they finally figured out they'd been mailed off to someone else to process... who still had not touched them weeks later. the person responsible for doing the transfer still had "a pile of CDs on her desk" and was evidently in a meeting. the desk staff promised to call me later that evening with an update. - I called the next morning after not getting a call from the desk staff. I was told there is a note on my account that they would call me once they hear back from the records processing person. I had to request that they call the person again to try to move things along. Again, I was advised they would call me later with an update. I'm not holding my breath. - edited to add: part of the urgency behind wanting to get this resolved is that my daughter can't get a prescription for medicine she needs to take every day until the doctor reviews her records. - if things aren't resolved by my next kid's well-check, we're going back to our old practice. they might be far away, but I could at least get my kids the care they needed. read more

I can't say enough good things about this practice! We have used them for over 8 years for just annual check ups and sick visits, but this past week our son got sick right before leaving town on a cruise. The office was incredible helping us get meds called in, to another state, in case his strep culture came back positive. We even received a call from the doctor on call, on a day the office was closed, to inform us of the results. They really went above and beyond and showed a genuine concern for our son and ensuring he got the meds needed. Thank you CAP!!! read more

I don't do this often but this time I want to really let people know. If you want to go to a pediatrician that cares about your child do not go here. My son is 8 months old and been going to the practice since he was born. Since that day I have not had a good feeling about the place. I should have left earlier but I know now. First - the front desk is rude. They talk to you like you are an idiot over the phone, they are short, and rush you off as quickly as possible. The fist available appointment for a physical is 2 months out, and they don't do vaccines on Mondays, Fridays or Saturdays. It is difficult to take off work and come in only on Tuesdays - Thursdays and when you try and book those days they are all taken so you can't get another appointment for another 3-4 weeks out. I think there was only one doctor that seemed to be halfway decent. I have recently found a new pediatrician, wonderful front desk and appointments available and open for a physical this week. He also spent time talking about my concerns. I am so happy to be leaving this place who only cares about making MONEY. read more

Several months ago I spent 45 min. on the phone with the head nurse to find out when my child could have her second Meningitis shot. We went more than 3 months out and, although the nurse was nice, she finally found me a 6pm appt. so I show up on the appointment date and 6pm time only to be told by an unsympathetic/unapologetic receptionist that they never make nurse appointments after 4pm and she'd be happy to make another one for us. My kids have been coming here since they were born. Over the years, the service/care provided have been diminishing. Within the last 3 years, it pains me to have to take my kids their for check-ups, immunization and illnesses. I feel like I'm walking into some kind of manufacturing plant where the goal is to get as many patients in as possible within a day. Rush in, rush out, bill, collect money. Can you at least pretend to care? Oh, and they definitely want their money while you're standing at the counter trying to check-in your very sick child. This pediatrician is not personal and instead of knowing your kid they categorize each scenario as a protocol. My son has a disorder that I've reminded them over and over and no matter what they make it an impossible task to get him the Meds he needs. If you want a pediatrician that truly cares about your kid, go somewhere else. Update: - result of speaking to one nurse who was clearly having a bad day and didn't want to help my son nor have any empathy- They kicked me out. Like I really ever would have come back! - Oh and urgent care got my son the Meds he needed. Update 10/17- I've been meaning to post this after the hell this practice put my son through. Again patients are a statistic/process/procedure-not people. I took my son elsewhere and guess what-they LISTENED and diagnosed without ignoring. I took him to experts (children's national) and my son was diagnosed with a condition where he gets a regular refill on the medicine CAPs were unethically denied. I shame you CAPs and will never forgot the pain you caused my son. If I had the time and means you would be getting sued so hard you wouldn't know what hit you. read more

I brought both my daughters here when we lived in VA and I really liked it. I appreciated that they almost always ran right on time so I wasn't left waiting with a baby/ small child. Dr. Harwell was really friendly and put my kids at ease. I liked the nurses too. Nurse Jeff was great. There is also a lot of parking and it's easy to access with a stroller. I appreciated the well and sick waiting areas being separated. The weakest links are the front desk staff (not always friendly and professional) and the online portal (awful to navigate). read more

Called Capital Care Pediatrics and they were able to see us ASAP!!!!!!!! The location was easy to get to , spacious, lots of parking , friendly staff and the Doctor was really nice! They have more than 1 Doctor, evening hours plus weekends!!! Overall I recommend the practice! Check them out! read more

We moved to this area 7 years back and ever since then we have been seeing Dr. Kim for both my kids. She is excellent. She understands the importance of all the questions parents have as she has 3 of her own. She has been extreme patient and excellent with kids. In her conversation with them she is actually checking them for signs and development. I can't thank her enough for looking out for our family. I have never felt that I have been rushed thru her examination. She takes time and listens to all our concerns being big or small. I highly recommend her. read more

I absolutely love Capital Area Pediatrics. We've been going for the past six months and haven't had a bad experience yet. The front office staff, nurses and doctors have all been friendly, knowledgeable and patient with all of my questions (first time mom here). I love that they're open later in the evenings and on weekends. A few weeks ago my son wasn't feeling well so I called at 4pm and they're were able to see me that evening at 7pm. It was nice being able to get an appointment quickly so we didn't have to wait and worry throughout the night. We specifically see Dr Hill and she's wonderful!! I was referred by a family member in 2015, after delivering my son. Making an appointment over the phone is extremely easy (even with my busy schedule). Melissa and Candi (front desk) are always friendly greeting us and always handing out stickers before we leave. We LOVE Dr. Lisa Hill but sometimes have to see other doctors or the nurse practitioner. They all have been very friendly, patient and easy to talk to! They make a visit to the doctor a fun experience for my 3 year old! read more

We got an appointment with our regular doctor, Dr. Kim and a follow up appointment with Dr. Hartwell. Both visits went great. My child was diagnosed correctly and referred to a specialist. It's definitely 0 rating. Front desk is lazy, rude and they have no courtesy at all. For a simple glitch in the system, my kid was showing uninsured. [Same plan, same company] I explained them. They don't listen. They don't want to call the insurance and confirm that. When I asked them to connect to Supervisor- response I got from front desk is 'she is out of Town'. When I asked them when she is coming back, their response is ' Oh she is in a meeting for couple of hours'. Liars!!! I have been seeing them since 2005. Don't they have a courtesy??? Ok we have been going to this practice for 6yrs. It is a large busy practice. So you must really learn how to navigate their system. I will say that on a routine visit it seems like no one care what happens and you are just rushed in and out. My daughter fainted and hit her head when she was in there and they took great care of her, she was transported to hospital and they checked on her all the time and asked about her. I can't explain how disappointed I am with CAP and how they handled my account. After having my children there for 6 years, we had some issues with billing because of my new healthcare plan. I had called and explained the new plan and that we were waiting for an hsa payment. They never noted it in my file and instead of calling me and talking to me in person, they sent a certified letter to let us know my children were no longer patients. In this day and age of cell phones and email, this practice resorted to snail mail as their communication. I will never refer another family (after doing so 6 times) again. read more
