Bree was incredibly helpful navigating options with my father. She always had time to go through various scenarios and help where she could.

In the document review, Ms. Sizer indicated that I should file a specific document related to a trust. My brother would need to sign this document. Since he was coming into the area from out of town, I emailed Ms. Sizer to ask her to send me the document for his signature. I finally got a response from Ms. Sizer after three emails and three phone discussions with her staff over about two weeks. This was part of her response, "As a solo practitioner, I am not able to prepare and provide documents on demand. I give each matter the due diligence it requires and address matters in turn so that every client receives careful and timely attention. Because this approach does not always align with timelines a client may wish to set, I believe it is best to conclude my representation so that you may continue with other counsel who can meet your needs going forward." If Ms. Sizer had responded promptly, this could have been avoided. If she needed more time, she could have let me know. Instead, she chose to remain silent. I have been a practicing attorney for thirty-five years. I hope that she learns that client communication is important.

Ms. Jones came to my mother's home and conducted a comprehensive evaluation of my mother's abilities and needs after a series of my mother's health emergencies. Ms. Jones was observant, compassionate, and very helpful in setting up a plan for scheduling in-home care. She gained my mother's trust which was an important step. A combination of my mother's improved condition, along with a family decision to ultimately limit the amount of care my mother needed, led us to eventually choose another path for the time being. Ms. Jones was more than understanding of our situation, and offered very helpful advice that guided our way forward. As my mother's needs evolve in the future, I can say that we would definitely seek the services of Envisage Care again. Thanks to Ms. Jones and all at Envisage who were so supportive of us during this difficult period. - Michael Lawrence Washington, DC

She contacted me right away on a Saturday night and took the time to listen to my needs for extended care for an elderly relative. As it turned out, we did not end up needing the services at this time as another family member will be resuming care. But I have no doubt we would have been delighted with this partnership and should circumstances change, I know I will call Envisage Care immediately.

The first caregiver assigned to our case never showed up, (3 days a week/12 hour days). A fill in…read morewas sent the following 2 days. The next 3 weeks, the original caregiver did show up but she was too tired to work, left the property multiple times to take breaks even when it was expressed that it was not ok to leave, left 3 hours early one day because she was tired, and slept on the job for a total of 5-6 hours another day. The CEO immediately pulled her from the case after I sent a detailed email about the caregiver sleeping on the job and that I felt something was wrong with her. CEO stated on the phone that I would not be charged for the day the caregiver slept because that is not how she runs her business or how her caregivers are expected to behave. It would be reflected in the next invoice. The following week, we required 4 days of service because our main caregiver was not available 1 day and CEO offered to fill in the extra day. We were only charged for 3 days of service, (verified online through banking app). Over the next 3 months, I had to train 8 people because CEO kept sending people who were not qualified with dementia/Alzheimer's training, caregiver had weeks of vacations planned, or caregiver had a planned day off and someone was sent to fill in. About 3 months into our relationship with Ready 2 Serve, I discovered that the invoices and bank statements did not match. We were overcharged 7 times, including a charge for the day I was told we would not be billed. The next invoice reflected an 8th time being overcharged so I called my bank and stop payment before it went though. I deducted the total amount we had been overcharged ($420) from the invoice amount and immediately sent a check along with a detailed statement to the address on the invoice where it says to mail payments. I mailed 3 additional payments to the same address in the weeks following. The final straw was when a caregiver abandoned mom; left the property/quit because I asked her to please be on time as I was traveling the following week for work and I needed to know that she could arrive on time to relive the nighttime caregiver. She did not tell me she was leaving nor did she tell mom. I immediately texted CEO stating that I was giving our one week notice to end services as it is written in our agreement. A caregiver was sent for the remaining day that week and she was scheduled to come the final week. CEO states she will not accept the checks I sent her for payment and demands electronic payments. "I DO NOT accept checks/cash." These checks were in her possession and she still refused. The next day I checked online to see if any of the 4 checks had been cashed, and 2 of them had been cashed already. I placed a stop payment on the 2 uncashed checks. I would send payment after it was confirmed the stop payments went through. Due to CEO not having payment upon demand, she ended services for the final week. She failed to notify the caregiver that she ended service and caregiver showed up at 8 am. I did not allow her in the house. CEO claims that I broke some code or rule by denying service and imposes threats with legal action. CEO denies that she offered a credit for the day of service when caregiver slept 1/2 the day and still demands payment. CEO changes invoices to match her claim. I have every invoice saved to my computer and I cannot change invoices provided by her and I cannot change my bank statements. This agency is very unethical and caregivers are very unprofessional.

Adult Companion Care (ACC) provided seamless professional, reliable, loving, and personal home care…read moreservices for our family at a time when we needed support. Within one hour of a late night online request for help (for our 92 year old father) from various agencies, a personal response (rather than computer generated) came in from Jim Lindsey (President/CEO) who suggested connecting by the phone the following day; that conversation the next day was the second huge encouragement for us as we sensed genuine interest, empathy, concern and understanding of our situation. He set up an initial home visit assessment/evaluation, and this turned out to be a wonderful experience because there was no sense of feeling rushed or pressed. In addition, everything was clear and transparent. Afterwards, we had some weeks before our need for in-home care, but we could call ACC at any point before services to have additional questions answered or to update needs or changes. From speaking to various team members, it was clear that this company worked as a respectful and well-coordinated "family". Our close-knit family is very involved in the care of our 92-year-old father, who has a good number of chronic conditions and medical/health issues that need to be understood in order to care for him properly. Complete and careful body care/hygiene, good nutrition and prevention of illness or other conditions were important for us in our short-term need for services, but much more of our concern was our father's mental health and sense of feeling secure and understood by someone outside of the home. Our mother, 88, who did not herself need physical services, nonetheless, needed someone who could reassure her and who would be sensitive emotionally to both of them, in addition to doing things she could not do for my father that required special skills. From the first time we met Fatmata, the certified nursing assistant assigned by ACC, we were immediately impressed and reassured. She was a perfect fit for us, and my mother shared that it was like having one of her daughters around. We are four sisters and one brother who provide care for our parents. In other words, the caregiver needed to fill in for over a week and take care of a man who was under the observation and love of many family members. In ACC's complimentary hour of orientation/training, the daughter, who is a nurse, was impressed by Fatmata's manner as she was exceptionally intuitive, observant, and attentive with a high level of sensitivity and compassion. Although there was some initial adjustment for my father because he was missing his regular daily caregivers, after a couple of days, he was genuinely thanking Fatmata for her help. We are deeply grateful for Adult Companion Care and their dedication, personal care, and willingness to work with us to find the best support for our father so that he could remain comfortable and safe at home. With heartfelt thanks, the Duerbecks, Macks, Greenes, Olsens, and Swailes.

The schedulers are incredibly patient, kind, and HONEST about what they can and can't do, which was such a big change. They also have some truly world class caregivers. There were some bad ones too, but in the end there were two people (Queen and Libby) who were simply incredible and were such a blessing to have caring for Mom. They have a relatively small pool of staff who can do lifting / transferring, but the ones they have are mostly good. They definitely tried to match our needs with their people, and as we provided feedback the matches got much better. They didn't have enough staff to provide full 24/7 care but worked with me as I filled the gaps with private folks. When they saw a snowstorm coming they would plan to have someone stay there for 2-3 days to prevent caregivers from not showing up due to bad road conditions. I have to subtract one star just for some of the bad caregiver experiences, and because billing turned out to be a bigger hassle with them than with other companies, but if I had to recommend a home care company in the DC area to someone else, it would without question be this one.

Danielle S was very nice, and I would be happy for her to come again. It sounds like she has good experience for the role. We had one incident where she took out 3 colors of play dough and was making shapes with the stamps......... ON THE CARPET. She didn't realize she was creating the marks (leaving play dough stuck in the carpet) and didn't realize it was a carpet (she said she thought it was a play mat). I think we all make mistakes. She apologized. She didn't blame my son. He has never done play dough anywhere on the floor or carpet, and never used more than one color. I read on the internet that one needs to wait for it to dry before trying to remove it. I contacted the company later that day and very politely asked "what are we going to do about it if it doesn't come off?" The admin lady blamed my child knowing nothing about the situation. She said the kid probably told her to do it... and more blaming things, which were completely not true. She said she would speak to a supervisor and get back to me. We found a neighbor to start a nanny share with and then dove head first into scouring the internet/care.com to find a nanny. What an overwhelming process! Then we found Philia and it just seemed too good to be a true - an organization that finds the nanny for you? That does all the pre-check work (background checks, interviews)? That handles all the administrative end of nannying (workers comp, insurance, payroll taxes)? How could it get better? Well it does. After a few emails with owner Kira, and then our initial in-person meeting, my husband and I were thrilled. Kira is passionate about her company and the services Philia offers and her response time & customer service are top notch. We have already met with and secured a nanny for our soon-to-be-arriving first child all thanks to Kira & Philia. Kira listens to your needs and wants and then she provides you with nannies that fit the bill. She takes SO MUCH of the time & stress out of nanny searching and we really couldn't be happier that we have started working with them for our childcare. Philia really, truly is DC's best kept secret right now!
