I am extremely disappointed by the care I received at Capital Digestive Care in Williamsburg. I drove over an hour (approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes) because I was grateful that your office was willing to see me on short notice. Unfortunately, my experience quickly became one of the most degrading healthcare encounters I have ever had. This is a private, physician-owned specialty practice, and I expected a level of professionalism, compassion, and coordination that reflects those standards. Instead, I left feeling dismissed, embarrassed, and completely abandoned. As a patient who is paying for my care through both my insurance and my own out-of-pocket expenses, I expected to be treated with dignity--not as though my condition was an inconvenience or something worthy of ridicule. While I was in the exam room, I could clearly hear the physician assistant discussing my condition outside my door. During that conversation, I distinctly heard another provider respond, "Ew," before saying they were not going to come into my room. That provider ultimately did come into the room, but hearing my condition discussed outside my door in that manner was humiliating. Whether that comment was intended to be about my condition or not, it is what I heard, and as the patient lying in that exam room, it made me feel disgusting, embarrassed, and completely dehumanized. The physician assistant then left to seek the physician's opinion. I was told the physician would not come evaluate me because they were performing a colonoscopy. I understand physicians have responsibilities and procedures to complete. However, after my condition was serious enough to warrant consultation with the physician and ultimately resulted in an emergency surgical referral, I find it difficult to understand why the supervising physician could not spare a few minutes to personally assess my condition or determine whether anything could be done before sending me elsewhere. I was then told I needed an emergency surgical referral, which understandably led me to believe my condition would be treated with urgency. Instead, while I was still sitting in the office, someone from your staff called me simply to provide the phone number for the surgeon's office and instructed me to call them myself immediately. I did exactly that. When I contacted Dr. Gregory FitzHarris's office, I was told that because I had been seen in the Williamsburg office and he was leaving in approximately ten minutes, it was not urgent enough to address that day and would have to wait until Monday. This response was incredibly frustrating because your office was fully aware that: * I had already gone to the emergency room and had been told I needed to see a specialist. * I had been calling multiple offices, begging for someone to see me because my condition had become unbearable. * I could not eat. * I could barely walk, sit, sleep, drive, or even hold a conversation because of the pain. * I had slept only about three hours over the previous 48 hours because my symptoms had progressively worsened. Despite all of this, I was left to spend the weekend in excruciating pain after being told I needed emergency surgical evaluation. To make matters worse, the response from the surgeon's office was essentially, "If it's really that bad, go to Sentara." That statement completely ignored the fact that I had already gone to the emergency room, where I was specifically instructed that I needed evaluation by a specialist because there was nothing more they could do. Throughout this entire process, I felt like I was simply being passed from one office to another while no one took ownership of my care. What should have been a coordinated, urgent referral instead became my responsibility while I was in severe pain. No patient should ever leave a medical appointment feeling humiliated, unheard, or as though they disgusted the very people entrusted with caring for them. Yet that is exactly how I left your office. I hope this review prompts serious reflection on patient privacy, professionalism, and the handling of urgent referrals. Patients deserve compassion, especially when they are at their most vulnerable. That is not what I experienced. read more

Issue# 1 I had a screening visit before scheduling a colonoscopy they recommended a endoscopy as well even tho my dr didn't request (?!) and went to the procedure after preparing. When i was in a gown waiting for anesthesia I was ask if i use a bipap, which I do. I am informed they cannot put me under. I ask if this should have been asked before at the screening appointment!? They did answer yes. But showed no concern. I ended up getting the colonoscopy without anesthesia and no endoscopy. My doctor never requested the endoscopy as i said they were obviously milking insurance money. NOT GOOD CARE! Issue # 2 Today after repeated phone calls and hours of wait time we had scheduled appointment for my wife. After traveling an hour we arrived 7 minutes late only to be told there was a 5 minute grace period and we could not be seen. The waiting room was empty! So they can make errors but no consideration for patients. We will find another provider and I would recommend you stay away! read more

We would only put a half star if we could. NP Debra Barnes is absolutely horrible she did not know answers to questions looked them up on her phone. We asked about the MRI and see if she could see it she sighed so loud when she was leaving the room because she didn't want to do it. My husband and I asked about the gallstones she said that most Americans live with gallstones all the time and she wasn't concerned about a flattened gallbladder. Most people didn't do anything about the gallstones them unless they caused problems. She wrote in the visit summary that my husband declined to see a surgeon which was not true at all. she said she would discuss things with the dr and she or he would call us that afternoon which didn't happen. She made an appt with the Dr. In 10 days. We still don't have answers and they keep making appt for nothing. I would not recommend this office. read more

Run away quick. The admin and billing side are terrible. Plan to work twice as hard because they mostly think it would be a good place to work if it weren't for all those patients bothering them. It will take months of your effort to get corrections to their mistakes. The doctors do good work if you can get to one but it's not overall a healing experience. read more

For the second time in 2 months, I had a procedure canceled on me. Yesterday I was within 20 minutes of leaving for the appointment. It took an extra two months to schedule the procedure after my February appt. and this was a followup to an abnormal colonoscopy 18 months ago. My husband requires home care and has lots of therapy appointments and doctor's appoitments; I had arranged for an extra 8 hours of care so I could do the prep. and be able to sleep after the procedure. My daughter has a 6 month old baby and we had to arrange for her husband to be home for the baby. I actually went through the prep. When I asked why they were canceling, I was told the anesthesiologist didn't show up. When I asked didn't they have a backup anesthesiologist, they said they did, but my procedure would have to be canceled. When I explained how difficult it was to set the procedure up and this was my second cancellation from them, they just said they were sorry. I left a message for the Office Manger to call and she did not. No one called me later to even try to reschedule. I am more than furious. I am also worried because this was not for a routine procedure. If I end up with a medically adverse situation because of their delays, an already very bad situation will become much worse. If you need a procedure performed at this practice, you may have cancelled. If I could give a rating of "0" I would. read more
