Been a patient for 4 years. I have never seen the Dr, always a PA/nurse. The administrative staff has always been less than helpful. Charged incorrect copays, relayed incorrect times/dates and rarely friendly. I cannot have a refill for my thyroid medication unless I have an office visit. The medical staff is certainly more friendly than the admin staff, but it seems that they have a high turnover, as I don't think I've seen the same person more than twice, and that only happened once. read more

I'm a physician and I was very disappointed by Dr, Segu unwillingness to review a peer reviewed literature I provided him that offered evidence based medicine for a bone loading technique to help improve osteoporosis so he can prescribe it for me if he thinks it's valid. He didn't even want to learn new thing. He just offers the medication with known complications and high cost. In addition he denied me the refill prescription for my diabetes medicine because I canceled my follow up when my test results came back normal and I'm tolerating the medication well. So ethically a doctor shouldn't leave the patient without a needed medication and knowing there is no role for the follow up in my case! read more

Most unprofessional staff I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with! I haven't seen Dr. Segu ever. It's always been a nurse. No one ever answers the phone. They claim to have staffing shortages forever. They apparently ran off all the good doctors and nurses and now left with Segu whom from all the reviews is a joke. I've never felt more compelled to leave a review for a doctor's office. The front desk staff is terrible. The woman at the window always has a sour face, is snarky and has an attitude when checking in. I thought that she was having an off day, but every visit is the same. Almost like you are inconveniencing her by being there. They have a notice saying that they are short staffed the entire time I have been a patient (over a year). My original provider left the practice as well as her replacement. I am trying to see Dr Segu now, but I was rescheduled 2 times. I had an appointment scheduled, but was called the day before to let me know that the provider had to reschedule my appointment. Ok, no worries. I made a new appointment and had a work emergency so I called and let them know. They said that they needed to charge me a fee since I didn't give them 48 hour notice. So you can cancel on me less than 24 hours but I can not reschedule with 28 hours notice? I put up a stink and they said they wouldn't collect the fee. I was rescheduled for about a month out. 2 weeks before, they rescheduled me again. But they sent the notice 10 minutes before they closed, 12:20pm. So now I have to wait until they re-open or until they respond to my message. I had already taken the day off and scheduled other appointments that day so that I wouldn't have to waste more of my vacation days. I have no experience with any other provider that is still there, so I can not say anything there, yet. Completely unsatisfied with this place and will definitely not be returning once I find another location. read more

My doctor, who has now left the practice, was fine. Everything else was horrible. Really horrible. I had an appointment after having gone to them before. Because they didn't THINK they had my updated insurance information (which I had sent via their "convenient" texting option), they cancelled my appointment. They said that they were worried that I wouldn't pay them out of pocket for the visit. Yes, upon joining their practice, I had filled out the standard form committing to cover all expenses that weren't covered by insurance. I had never balked at their fees. They had no reason to doubt that I would pay. I only found out that my appointment had been cancelled after I had taken time off from work and driven a half hour to get to them. When I asked to talk to the office manager, who made the decision to cancel my appointment, they said she was not available. As I later learned, she was standing 6 feet away. She could hear me asking to speak with her. She listened to my entire conversation with the receptionist. And yet, she remained unavailable. They do not answer their general phone. The only way to reach them is to leave a message or, you guessed it, through their billing department. They do not call in orders to the lab. They give paper orders and you have to hold on to them for months until before your next appointment and take them to the lab yourself. Now, the final straw, I called to have my records sent to a new General Practitioner. The billing department informed me that you must come in person to fill out the request form. (Don't forget the half hour drive!) I am asking 4 other docs to send records and every one of them is fine with getting a faxed request. Most even have a downloadable form on their website. Luckily, I will be able to share the lab work with my new doc directly from the lab...and bloodwork is about all Capital Endocrine did. I don't like to give bad reviews. I want to support local businesses. Which is why I've not written one sooner. But their repeated unprofessionalism has driven me to share this information with you so that you might avoid the same frustrations and disappointment. I don't know the quality of the other doctors. But this is the most poorly run and disrespectful practice I have come across. I do hope my new GP will be able to steer me to a great endocrinologist with a decent practice. read more

My problem is not with the doctors. They are amazing. The staff on the other hand needs to be changed. Not all but the scheduler, and other front desk peeps don't have any bedside manners. I'm only giving this a one star review because there is no option to give zero stars. The staff is not helpful, to get prescriptions you have to bend over backwards. They never answer the phone, it takes DAYS to actually speak to someone. Today for example I had a nurse HANG UP ON ME! If I could give this office ZERO stars I would. They called me November 23rd 2023 and text me to let me know I had a balance due. I didn't have an appointment until December so I was curious why I had a balance. Come to find out they were attempting to collect from an appointment that I had in February 2022. That's 9 months from my original appointment where I was asked to see Adriane because the Doctor was sick that day. So I went and saw Adriene as a regular check up. She prescribed the same meds and I made another appointment in 3 months as is recommended for type 2 diabetes. Imagine my surprise when they told me in text and email that I owe $295 dollars. I have never had to pay that much for an appointment. When I was finally able to talk to someone on the office ( this took days mind you, the lady barely spoke English) they let me know my insurance didn't cover this appointment. I tried to argue why I was being billed 9 months later. I asked for them to send me the EOB they had. It states clearly that they didn't have enough info to bill..... why is this my problem? Because your office isn't competent enough to bill things out correctly. Come to also find out this has happened to others on here. The office over charged for the type of service, It is their responsibility to rebill. But no, now they want to stick me with the $295.00 left over. On my EOB that they send to me it literally says " missing patient medical records for this appointment." The lady I spoke to told me to call my insurance and if that didn't do anything I could call the office back and ask for the discount.... I'm sorry but excuse me?? Because you are all too lazy to bill things correctly I am now responsible for the bill? I cannot get anyone in this office to call me back or answer any of my emails. I am searching for a new doctor in the mean time. I cannot believe how rude everyone has been at this office, and they act like I'm the crazy one who doesn't just want to fork over $295.00 for no reason. Most unprofessional staff I have ever dealt with! The staff is snarky and difficult to talk to. I didn't realize that I hadn't been to see this Dr. in a little over a year until I went to refill my prescription. They said I needed to schedule an appt and then they would *consider* giving me a temporary prescription. I made the appt and they called the next day and said I would have to pay $25 for them to call in a temporary prescription....WHAT???!!!! This action on their behalf costs them NOTHING and I go in to see them in 5 days! I agree that this office is money hungry!! I am looking for a new Dr. as we speak. read more

I recently had to change endocrinologists due to my health insurance end I Can't say enough good things about this endocrinologist office. They are very courteous, and efficient. The nurses and staff are helpful, and Dr. Segu is also very kind, and to the point. I am a type 1 diabetic and have been for 26 years and a lot of endocrinologists can be very judgmental, but Dr. Segu is not at all. They are great about not keeping you waiting for too long for your appointment either. Some offices keep you waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Overall do yourself a favor and make yourself or your family member an appointment here. They will take great care of you. read more

So, the good part: some of the nurses are amazing and the medical staff is always kind and courteous. However, the front office has been so offputting that I've decided to leave them after 2 years. If I was seeing them for something that my life didn't depend on then I might be more willing to stick around to see if things improve, but since I can't mess with missing my prescription I will be seeing someone else. I would add my experiences here, but I think all the other reviews sum up what I've experienced as well. It's a shame that good doctors are being hurt by such bad staff. Dr. Segu is amazing! My husband sees him for his thyroid problem, and he was truly a life saver. Long story short, the previous doctor my husband saw was AWFUL. I wish someone would revoke her license! There were so many red flags, but the last straw was when my husband was continuing to lose weight at a rapid pace, and she just gave him a lecture claiming he was pocketing the pills and not taking them. Immediately after that appointment, I started looking for a new doctor for my husband and I found Dr. Segu. Seeing all the positive reviews, I knew he would be the one to help him. Coming in for his first visit, I was nervous. Even though he had great reviews, I just wanted someone to help my husband. But all my worries went away when I saw Dr. Segu come to the waiting room, and happily wave at his wife when he saw her. Seems silly, but that showed me he was a kind person and had a heart. (Unlike my husband's previous doctor) When we went in, the nurse practitioners were great and so kind. It made the experience all the better. And Dr. Segu is literally Superman. He was our hero and saved my husband's life. Pretty much, my husband's thyroid was just killing itself and no medication was helping him. After some trial and errors, Dr. Segu decided he would need surgery. My husband was just one of those "lucky" individuals who had it so bad that he would need surgery. At one point, my husband had to make an ER trip because he had severe heart palpitations. Thankfully, a simple phone call to Dr. Segu's office made everything better. He quickly prescribed a new medication for my husband to take up until a little after his surgery. The thought of surgery was definitely scary. We weren't prepared for it, but Dr. Segu made everything better for us. He assured us everything would be ok, and he went above and beyond and recommended us an amazing surgeon. He even talked to him personally for us. What doctor does that? A great one that is! In the end, my husband's surgery went great, and almost a year later, my husband is back to normal and doing so much better. Honestly, if I didn't find Dr. Segu, I'm not sure my husband would be here right now. He was probably on the verge of having a thyroid storm, but Dr. Segu saved the day. On behalf of my husband and I, seriously, thank you to the entire staff and especially to Dr. Segu. You have assure my husband a long and happy life. We will forever continue to come here, and we will always recommend everyone, and anyone to come here. read more

I find some of these reviews very hard to believe. If I could leave this office NO stars, I would. Dr Segu himself doesn't seem like a bad man. He is polite and cordial, but also very dismissive. I want to warn anyone considering this office to be prepared for billing errors in which their office manager will not correct. I also feel as if it's worth mentioning that every 6 months they seem to be moving office buildings :( Save yourself the struggle and just go with another provider. read more

Just plain horrible experience. Staff is bad at best. They dont even know what insurances they are listed on. Just like everyone else once the results to tests are received it is what it is. No thinking any further- Just throw up your hands and deal with it from Doctor. He is too busy to see you so he dumps you on his PA- who knows nothing about your care. Staff is a figment of your imagination because they only work via Klara(text). Same situation as others they bill for Tier 3 for initial appointment and insurance told them not justified and 1 year later they just starting billing me cause they refuse to rebill at a different lower tier. Great doctor-patient care and relationship. They have been courteous and nice and thorough to my needs. I switched from Texas Diabetes and Endocrinology because I didn't feel they were listening to my needs. Dr. Segu listened and suggested comprehensive lab works to pinpoint my issues and also went out of his way to check correlational issues to not only treat the symptoms but the cause. Really disappointed in Dr. Segu and this practice. My husband had been coming here for years and due to the Covid-19 asked to reschedule his appointment and bloodwork. The office rescheduled the appointment to May 2020 and then three days later Dr. Segu sent him a rejection letter saying he is no longer welcome as a patient. When husband called the office to find out what happened, he was informed the May 2020 appointment had been cancelled, too. No explanation. I really think this is a poor choice for a doctor to do, especially this during these unprecedented and potentially life threatening times. My husband was trying to keep his family safe by sheltering in place and limiting all exposure on every front possible. Now he is being forced to find another doctor to prescribe his life saving, absolutely cannot live without prescriptions. read more

I have hesitated posting an update. But I truly believe its our job as patients to help one another. I have done so much research regarding thyroid issues and doctors misdiagnosing you. I continued to see my OB for thyroid issues. If you see my previous post I was under Dr. Segu's treatment for a year. I complained to him more than several times that I had pain in my neck. I was sobbing most days because I felt so awful. Dr. Segu's advice was that I dont need medication my levels were fine. Now that I have done my own research the functional doctors approach thyroid issues a completely different way. Yes your bloodwork can look ok that doesn't mean your ok. Most Endocrinologist dont even do all the right bloodwork necessary. All this to say thank God my OB was more aggressive than Dr. Segu! My OB suggested an ultrasound and I had thyroid cancer. It's unbelievable alarming and unnerving you can go to a specialist for a year and he misses that!!!! My OB saved my life. I wasted so much time and money going to Dr. Segu. I can tell you his answer was the same with every single lab result and doctors visit. read more

One star because I didn't have issues with Dr or NP. Front office staff is inept. If you pay cash, need exact payment. No notice anywhere about that. Asked if they can bill me. Said they would have to ask and that person is not there. Said I can leave and go find change. Said if I leave I am going home. You have to text or leave a msg for a call back. I understand for Dr or nursing staff but got sorry people up front who could answer if they where capable. They can't do anything without asking. Great confidence in staff. Was prescribed a medication and there was an issue. Instead of them calling and figuring it out, they called me to call my insurance to find out what medication they prefer. Uh, excuse me, I don't know what medication does what and seams to me the dr office should be looking at what medication is available. I regret ever going there. Terrible! They ordered 2 blood tests and there was a mix up so I had to end up doing an extra blood test. I still had to pay for the extra test so after insurance I was out $300, office staff was also unprofessional. Defiantly not going back. read more

We have been going here since moving to Austin (about three years). Having used endocrinologists in three Texas cities, I think Dr. Segu is among the very best. He is kind, quiet, thoughtful and patient + he knows his stuff! What a great combination. With his help we keep my diabetes under excellent control using a diabetes pump + medication. He has also been superb in helping my friend get control of his diabetes, too. Recommended without reservation. read more

I would NEVER recommend Dr. Segu or his office! Our family has gone through some very tough times financially over the past few years and have not always had insurance coverage. And although tough on our family, we have always tried to ensure that our daughter's diabetes was adequately attended to. However, we received a letter in the mail from Dr. Segu and his office that said he could no longer see my daughter as a patient because we weren't able to come in as frequently as he recommended. In other words, if you're struggling with financial resources, Dr. Segu will simply kick you to the curb! Shame on him and his entire office. I will NEVER recommend Dr. Segu to anyone! read more

The scheduling desk is terrible. I waited over a month for my appointment and they cancelled it without my authorization. I am a RN and have worked in clinics and have never seen this kind of treatment to patients. I sent them a confirmation email about my appointment and they say the didn't get it. ? Not my problem. They have no nurses answering the phones, and with my health issues, I refuse to talk to an unlicensed assistant that has no formal clinical assessment training in Endocrinology. For these reasons I will never go here. I wonder if the doctor running this place is aware of the problems with the schedulers, or if he cares. ? read more

all this office cares about is getting their money. they have you sign a contract saying if your insurance denies their overcharges you still are responsible for payment. they charged my insurance over 500.00 for a consultation my insurance denied it because they overcharged me for the type of service. my insurance said do not pay that bill they need to resubmit. they never resubmitted an adjustment so now i am totally 100% responsible for the bill. im paying this to get them out of my hair. the principle isnt worth them taking me to collections!!!!!!! all they care about is the copay and insurance gouging!!!! thank you for putting money first and not my care !!! go to texas diabetes and endocrinology. they are awesome!!!!!! read more

This practice is for profit and it shows. Going there felt more like taking my car for service than actually receiving health care. They charged my insurance a total of $1150 for one consultation ($500) and one sleep study ($650) which would potentially cost another $500 for the follow up consultation that I never went in for. Another indication of the for profit-ness of this practice was that I received text messages, phone calls, and letters about a $78 outstanding balance but never received a follow-up call to discuss my exam results. Dr. Segu is fine. He is patient and very thorough - however, the nickel and diming is too much to make me feel cared for. After all the charges, I never received a proposed treatment or any sort of attempt to help me get better. I ended up going to another endocrinologist at a non-profit organization. After reviewing my blood tests (the same ones I took to Dr. Segu) he figured out the issue and made changes to my medications. So far I've lost 10 pounds and I'm feeling great. The total charge to my insurance was $130 (a small fraction of what was charged at Capital Endocrine) and it actually solved my problem. I never write Yelp reviews but I felt that I owed this one to my fellow hypothyroid sufferers. Be well! read more

Not a very efficient medical practice. Could not get my re-order for insulin correct both times they were involved. Thank goodness for emergency re-fills. From experience, such clerical incompetence could not be tolerated. Too many variables to mention but professionalism is lacking...COVID or not. You can tell a lot about a person by their family, the way they treat strangers, and the way they do business. I've been battling Type II diabetes for 20 years now, and seen my share of endocrinologists. I relocated to Austin in April 2015 and after researching my options of endocrinologists in the area had the luck to find Dr. Segu. He has been fantastic. He is very knowledgeable but first and foremost he is very nice, he listen and empathizes with his clients. He has realistic goals and won't talk you down like many endocrinologists do so well. I came to his practice with an A1C at 9.6% after 6 months, I am happy to report that I am now at 7%. I've also lost 40lbs with the help to a new drug he prescribed me. If you are looking for a trusted, knowledgeable doctor, run to see Dr. Segu, you will be pleased! read more

Had the first appointment with Dr. Segu. I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic over 15 years ago and have a long history of medication use and how they effect me. I visited him in hopes of finding an endocrinologist nearer my home. 1) Caution flag - His staff has you fill out about a dozen forms stating how you are responsible for all charges, whether covered by insurance or not. 2) Caution flag - Charges high fees for appointment cancellation. 3) Caution flag - Speaks english with very thick accent, mispronounced most drugs on the list of my prescriptions. When asked to clarify which drug he was referring to he became defensive and didn't go over the rest of the list. 4) Caution flag - Is dismissive of questions asked of him during the exam. Says "I'll get to that", but he never did. 5) RED FLAG - Wants to take photograph of retina for diagnosing diabetic retinopathy in a darkened room. This is done without pupil dialation and he is NOT an opthalmologist. This is not a good diagnostic for this problem. See the very first paragraph of this site: https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/tc/diabetic-retinopathy-exams-and-tests#1 He wanted to do this test on the first visit without obtaining records from a proper opthalmologist, in spite of having the opthalmologist's records with proper diagnostics in hand. CONCLUSION: This doctor is more concerned with lining his pockets with expensive procedures right off the bat before he becomes familiar with the patient. Even though the tests were current and had been previously done in the recent past. He had the current test results and records in hand. Item 5 above seems to be bordering on fraud because such a test is inconclusive. Steer clear of this doctor. read more
