My friend and I got pierced here about a year ago and the experience still stands out as uniquely horrible. Importantly, this piercing parlor is NOT sanitary. While I was there, I overheard two of the employees discussing their bottles of Barbicide and water, which had been switched. They realized that they hadn't sanitized some of the surfaces between clients. My friend got her belly button pierced and I got my ears pierced. Her belly piercing had to be corrected later by another piercing parlor. It was done incorrectly. My ear piercings were and still are crooked and when one of the earrings fell out later and I returned, the piercer simply ignored the original hole and repierced my ear, after a different employee ran a needle through my original piercing (extremely painful). Very unprofessional, unsafe, and ignorant behavior. I wanted to speak up but felt ignored by the piercer. A more minor issue on the scale of things, but the piercer definitely scammed us on the price of the jewelry that he used for the piercings. My earrings were pretty large "diamond studs" that cost 100 dollars. I highly doubt that they are actual diamond and are probably not even worth 100 dollars. If you value your health and safety, don't come to this shop for your piercings or tattoos! Not sanitary and not professional at all. read more

I got my nose pierced here by Irish in 2024 and it went smoothly from start to finish, including the healing process. All I had to do was use a saline spray (arm & hammer works super well!) and I didn't deal with any infections or bumps at all. It also didn't hurt much. Irish knows what he's doing and he's very patient! I went back recently and got a flower tattoo by Bradley and WOW it is beautiful!! The small details he puts into his work is amazing. I was a walk in and he was very nice to me and drew up exactly what I had in mind so fast. I got the tattoo on my hand and there was barely any pain. Unfortunately, I'm really disappointed with the final result of my tattoo. The artist didn't quite capture the design and details I was hoping for. I had high expectations, but the execution fell short. I wish they had taken more time to understand my vision and work with me to achieve the desired outcome. Sadly, I'm left with a tattoo that doesn't resonate with me. I don't know about the other tattoo artists who works there but the girl with green hair, she is not good at it. She will lie to you about how she's good but she's really not so don't get fooled by her like i did. Also, when i had first met her i asked if she can do a band tattoo in one day.. Homegirl got all excited and said yes she can.. So i had told her that i want two butterflies on it so it could cover my scar, she kept saying yes and i have to communicate with her so that she knows i want the tattoo done by her. I did everything she asked for.. I went there on my first day she couldn't finish it in one day like she promised, i scheduled another day to do it, and she couldn't finish it again. Writing and update since I accidentally said RJ in original review when I meant to say JR (or if I'm still getting it wrong then he told me a different name than what he has) he is the man circled in yellow in the photos. Not sure if he still works there now, but I paid him for 2 roses with vines coming out on all sides with leaves and thorns. 2 roses...vines...leaves...thorns. is that what you see? Because I don't. When I arrived the day of appt. He was unprepared and made me wait while he printed out a drawing from online. I thought the artist usually draws a design themselves? The stencil was fine and I agreed to it. So he began creating my half sleeve. He had told me that he finds it rude when his customers watch his work the whole time, which I don't understand because....its gonna be on that person's skin for the rest of their life so obviously they want to check out how it's going. He had finished the bottom rose, wiping off the stencil the entire way and not reapplying it. He then asked for a break so he could eat. (He ended up taking 7 breaks throughout this tattoo. I wasn't in pain so idk why so many breaks were necessary) Again he continued, wiping off more and more stencil without reapplying and thus free handing the entire thing. During another break, I visited the bath room to check out how it was looking, only to find out I had been given this weird, ultra thick black swirl that makes no sense whatsoever and was due to free handing after wiping away the stencil. On my part, I should've had him stop after the odd swirl, but being young, stupid and shy, I allowed it to continue. So what I want to say is don't get your tattoo done by him. He won't have your tattoo design prepared when you arrive, will just free hand it when stencil rubs off, will need an excessive amount of breaks, and will get upset if you watch the work being done. I've been waiting a few years to come up with an idea for a cover up, allowing time to discover more about myself along the way so that I won't get a cover up that I regret, also I don't plan to cover up the entire thing, just the disgusting swirl thing. I had scheduled an appointment with a specific tattoo artist as he was recommended by a friend. Spoke to him all the way up until I was heading out the house and he didn't tell me UNTIL I GOT THERE, that he wasn't going to be able to do my tattoo personally. Reluctantly I allowed his "best friend" to do my tattoo, dude was super awkward and kept explaining how touch-ups are free but also kept reminding me that most touch-ups aren't caused by HIM but the customer. I should of taken that as my first sign to get out of the chair and not come back. The guy that did my tattoo DUG SO DEEP in one specific area that he caused that specific part to become INFECTED. I had to have it taken care of by another tattoo artist at another shop as well as a last minute doctors appointment. After it healed, I reached out to the original guy that I had an appointment with (Considering he vouched for his friend and he was who I was suppose to have an appt with originally) to see if he would be doing the touch-up on this tattoo now that its missing ink due to the infection and I clearly wasn't going to give that other guy a second chance to do it again. He read my message shortly after I sent it and never responded back to me... and its been over a week. I will NEVER recommend anyone to go to this shop. Nothing short of hospitality here at this shop. I stumbled upon this spot walking around old Sacramento and I'm glad I did. The wait wasn't too long for a walk-in without an appointment and Kayla was friendly and assisted us with the quick process. Insisted we sit on the more comfortable couches inside waiting room than the front desk bench area. So immediately my group and I felt more welcomed. Soon after I dealt with I believe the owner, head piercer, Irish and he was extremely chill and had a great vibe with him. It was my first experience with getting piercings and although it was just the ear lobes I felt if I ever need any more piercings I would come back and recommend it to other friends. DO NOT GO HERE! Worst tattoo shop in all of Sacramento, hands down! I got a tattoo from William Carson "Carson" in July, and it turned out horrible! He said he would touch it up for free and then flaked on every appointment I scheduled with him after that. Either something would happen to his car, or he'd forget he had made prior plans. He would confirm the appointments, and I'd show up, pay for parking, and find out he wasn't even there. When I asked for a refund so I could get the tattoo fixed elsewhere since it became clear he had no intention of fixing it himself, he literally responded, "f*ck you" and then tried to lie about how much I had paid for the tattoo! Other tattoo artists that I've shown it to since are at a loss for how horrible of a job he did. He didn't use the right colors and didn't go deep enough. The tattoo looked like a faded 20-year-old tattoo instead of a tattoo that was just a few weeks old (see photo below of the tattoo I got from Carson on July 22, 2024). I reached out to the owner, Irish Cash, and he never even responded. The shop is dirty, cluttered, and crawling with children and dogs, which I'm pretty sure is illegal. Minors aren't supposed to be running around a tattoo shop. I have proof of everything that I have stated in this review so Irish can't default to his usual "this is slander" bs or try to spin the story. I have pictures, text messages, and receipts that I would be more than happy to post! Even other artists at Capital Ink were shocked and disappointed at Carson's behavior and attitude. I've submitted a written request to both William Carson "Carson" and Irish Cash requesting a refund of $350. They have both ignored my request and now I'm having to send a certified letter to inform them of my intentions of filing a claim against them in small claims court. I am doing my due diligence and have given them the opportunity to right this wrong before I go to small claims court, but they are choosing not to do the right thing and are just ignoring me. As a matter of principle, I will pursue getting my money back for sh*tty work done to the fullest extent of the law. I encourage anyone who is thinking of going here to thoroughly research this shop and read ALL the reviews online, not just the ones posted by the artists friends and family. This shop is unprofessional, negligent, and very poorly run by underqualified, overconfident, rude, tweaker "tattoo artists" with missing teeth. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else! read more

With Friday the 13th approaching, I need to warn whoever decides to get any piercings here - please DON'T. I had a great tattoo experience here in April of 2018, and decided to come back for a fun Friday the 13th piercing. I have 12 piercings in total, so getting a new one is relaxing, and fun for me. This time, I was totally wrong. The guy (long hair, about 5'8", kinda rough looking) who called me back was obviously aggravated before we even began. He sat me down, asked me what I wanted, which side, and started pulling out supplies. I wanted an industrial. He proceeded to pull some generalized barbell out of nowhere, peeled open a pack of needles/equipment, grabbed my ear, and slammed the needle through. All of this took about 4 minutes. He twisted the backing on my barbell and walked back to his office. No aftercare - nothing. I was left in the chair with blood trickling down my neck. I stood up and tried to just wipe it off on my shirt, before I had to ask another staff member for a paper towel. The new staff member sat me down and wiped me off, as I was about to faint . He then explained some aftercare (the only reason I'm even considering giving a single star review) and took me to the office to pay. I walked past my horrible piercer as he sat with his legs up on the desk, with a pack of cigarettes open and ready to go. 6 months later, I now have an industrial piercing that is consistently irritated, still causes me pain to sleep, and bothers me every day. I've had two additional piercers look at it since and tell me to take it out - the placement is wrong, and the tissue is traumatized and keloid-ing. Worth it, even for $40? Absolutely freaking NOT. read more

I went here for an eyebrow piercing and no one was wearing masks, it was dirty and messy inside, and the man who has tattoos on his head and everywhere pierced me. This guy was most likely on meth or some stimulant because he rushed the piercing in the most offputting and uncomfortable way. He breathed right in my face and jammed the piercing into my eyebrow without even asking me where it should go. Now, five days later it is bleeding uncontrollably and the piercing has sunken down further into the giant hole he made that ripped the hell out of my skin. My sister, daughter and I went to Capital Ink Tattoo and had the best experience. This place is a little hidden gem. It was my daughters 16th birthday (just a few days ago) she decided she really wanted her nose pierced and took advantage of my sister "The cool aunt" to talk me into it while visiting Sacramento. It was around 10pm and being from Seattle we normally have to make appointments for these services a week in advance. We went to 1 place before Capital Ink but they were closed. We didn't even know where to find Capital Ink until a bouncer at a bar told us to go "underground" next door. Just follow the stairs all the way down. We ended up right at the counter of Capital Ink and Shane was our guy. Shane "Smiley" is amazing. Seriously. He did all 3 of our piercings right then and there. My daughter was ecstatic. My sister and I were also beyond excited. He was so professional and kind, which is what we all needed considering her was about to stab a needle into their noses and my ear. (He didn't really "stab", it was a gentle push). He walked us through the entire process as it took place, made jokes, laughed at our stupid jokes, made sure we were comfortable and was extremely clean. SANITATION IS KEY HERE, PEOPLE! I noticed how he thoroughly cleaned the work area for each piercing which spoke volumes to me. Everyone is worried about their expensive piercing getting infected, but I was confident leaving Capital Ink because it was a very sterile environment, we had our spray antiseptic aftercare, and Shane explained exactly what to do and NOT do for the next few weeks. I give Capital Ink 5+ stars I give Shane 5+++++++++ Gold SUPERstars because of his professionalism, cleanliness, kindness and willingness to help make my daughters 16th birthday amazing and unforgettable. Wanted to give an update on this. I was able to contact the owner Irish, who immediately refunded my money, stating that the piercer is new and thought he was giving me the correct gauge. The discomfort and inconvenience it caused was avoidable, however. I do still have to use nasal spray twice a week, as I'm dealing with a re-pierced nose pretty much. I would HIGHLY recommend this tattoo shop to anyone out there debating on where to get theirs done. It is at a convenient and easy to find location in Old Sacramento. Yes, you go down some flights of stairs underground to get to the shop itself (which is creepy to some people). I myself find it to be pretty neat. I think it's been purposefully built this way in case of crybabies. Afterall, nobody can hear you scream if you're way underground. Puahahahaha! Kidding. Calm down. Rest assure, the bar next door to them is opened late, and there's always a crowd in there so it's not like you'd be completely alone even if you are going by yourself. I came here 2 months ago on my older brother's birthday to get a gamer tattoo as a way to represent our wonderful childhood together. A couple of friends came along with me. We were greeted warmly by Oak. I had a print out of what I wanted and showed it to him. He went to the back for about a minute, came back and showed me a new print out of the picture I had. He explained to me that if he were going to do the tattoo, it'll have to be blown up a bit bigger. Or else, I should come back the next day for Beau who is apparently better with fine lines and such. I highly appreciated the honesty. This isn't the kind of shop that is only concerned with taking your money and is willing to toss you to whoever. Each artists here has their own style. And depending on what you are getting, they will recommend you a certain artist. Oak is especially great with old school tattoos. I didn't want to put it off. I want to make sure that it gets done on my brother's birthday. And since Oak immediately came off as a sweet and respectful person from the get go, I already knew I'd feel comfortable with him being my artist. I asked him for the price of it. And when he answered me, "$140", my Asian side totally kicked in. I started debating if I should go somewhere else that would do it for less. Oak was considerate and left me with my girls for a few minutes to talk it over with them and get some advice. Everyone agreed that it was expensive for a fairly small piece. But then I thought back to the numerous yelp reviews of Capital Ink and was instantly drawn back to this place (thanks guys!). So, I gave Oak the word. At this point, I was of course, still a bit uneasy. He took the time to explain to me the reason why the price may seem a bit steep. I was getting an 8 bit (video game) tattoo. So even though it may look small and simple, it isn't because each pixels must be colored in correctly. If this didn't make any sense to me at this point, it sure as hell did 20 minutes later when we got started. I love the set up of this place. My friends and I walked into the *waiting area* with comfy couches, a big television, and even a pool table towards the back. We sat there and chit chat as I sign some of the paper work and waited for Oak. Finally, we were able to get started on my tattoo! I went with the size he suggested so that it'd be more doable for him. I was originally trying to get it on my inner arm, but way high up so that a shirt sleeve would cover it completely. I explained this to him and let him do the placement. It was definitely not way high up like I've had in mind. BUT IT WAS PERFECTION. He somehow got it just right on the very first try. And he put it at an exact location where it's surprisingly well-hidden.The pattern stamped on my arm looks insane. Now I see why it's more difficult to do than it had looked. There were nothing but boxes covering the inside of the outline of my picture. And he had to fill in each of the box correctly to create the pixelated illusion. It was crazy awesome!!!! The tattoo took about 1.5 hour for completion with two breaks in between. He made it clear that if I needed a break, just go ahead and say so. MY TATTOO CAME OUT WAYYYYYY BEAUTIFUL! (picture uploaded) I was so glad he actually made it bigger than what I initially wanted. Overall, I had a great experience here. It was all very comfortable. It also helped that the place (and my artist) is okay with me having my girls there in the room with me. Now I'm not suggesting for everyone to bring a crowd here and be of any disturbance, but it's so nice to be able to have your friends or family with you during the process (especially during long ones). I've come to this place for both piercings and a tattoo, and thankfully I've left usually satisfied. Unfortunately, about 10-12 months ago, I came into the shop for the first time and got my triple helix done. The piercer was lovely and very sweet but I've had nothing but issues since getting the piercing. I did everything I should, such as cleaning it regularly, avoiding sleeping on it, and not using hoops until after 6 months. However, despite this, my middle piercing refused to heal. I thought it was my jewelry type, so I switched it out. After 7 ish months of healing, it bled during changing, and quite a bit too. I powered through it and kept that jewelry for a while. Still no progress. Just this week, I got a bunch of high quality, safe metal jewelry for all my ear piercings, and faced the threat of changing them again. I had the same issues, except now my new jewelry refused to go through the hole. Upon closer inspection, I notice the hole is pierced too far in, closer to the flat of my ear, rather than the "valley" where the rest of my helix piercings are. This has caused a crooked piercing that hoops can physically no longer slide through because of their curve. I've also gotten a conch here, and neither that nor the other 2 helix have given me much of an issue, other than the normal occasional irritation, but it's a disappointing enough experience to make me wary, especially since I had discussed with the piercer that I wanted them positioned so that I can wear hoops read more

I showed him what I wanted as far as design (an infinity symbol with "lim f(x)" along the bottom) and I explained how I still wanted a feminine touch when it came to the font. When it came to color, I knew I didn't want black, so he suggested a magenta that he had in one of his tattoos. Since we have similar skin tones, I thought it was an awesome idea. JR came out with the design, and I was really happy with it. The infinity symbol the variance in line thickness that I wanted and the wording flowed really well along the curve. JR suggested better placement an inch or so below my wrist rather than directly over the bend lines, so the tattoo could be more readable. I'm ecstatic about my tattoo. I've gotten numerous compliments already on the line work as well as the choice of font, and it hasn't even finished healing yet! Thanks, JR! On the shop: I loved the amount of artwork and books available to browse through. The seating/waiting area was comfortable, but it was a little dark. Then again, I'm used to being under florescent lights all day at work, so anything less will seem dark for me. I really liked how there were separate rooms for each artist, so the artist's work could be displayed on the walls and there was more privacy. I was expecting a few tears to be shed during my tattoo, so it was nice knowing that no one would have really had to witness that. Overall, a really cool shop. read more

So I am not really sure how to review a tattoo place. It's not like they have a menu and I can taste a little of everything. I don't know if I should give 5 stars because I am talking about an experience with one person, not the shop as a whole. Anywho.. So I have a friend that is covered in tattoos. I was telling him I wanted a new tattoo and he gave me the number of his friend that did some of his. I called and spoke with Nick. Told him what I wanted, and since I saw his work in my friend I felt fairly certain that I could trust him to come up with something I liked. Almost a month later I went to Capital Ink to see what he designed. I wanted a Claddagh, and what he came up with was perfect. It was an old school design with just red and black. Not too flashy, and definitely not trashy. I have an image to protect, ya know. He asked whether or not I wanted to add or delete anything. I thought it was perfect the way it was. I told him where I wanted it, and he pretty much said hell no. Something about pain and whatnot. It's not like I have a lot of experience with tattoos, this was just my second.. but from a lot of stories I hear... there are certain tattoo artists that will just let you put whatever wherever. I felt like this guy was actually looking out for me. Not to mention he was very nice. I chose the back of my arm. It took several hours. The pain made me want to cry. He let me take a break, which was nice. Otherwise I think I would have died. Fast forward almost a year later and I still get compliments on it at least once a week. I even have people stop me and ask to check it out. Recovery took a little over a week, and was completely painless. If I ever get another tattoo, this guy is doing it whether he likes it or not. Finally away and rid from this god forsaken place. Not only is the staff extremely disrespectful and overpriced (not to mention kids/minors in the shop) but Irish somehow feels like it's okay to sexually harass customers. My husband doesn't have a Yelp account, so I'm writing his review for him. Him and I are on leave and he's going to be based in Korea this July. He wanted a really good and legit tattoo place to get his half sleeve started. So he looked online, read reviews, and he found Capital Ink. He decided to set an appointment up with Kyle. Kyle is very professional and definitely knows what he's doing. My husband told Kyle the tattoo and vision he wanted and exceeded his expectations. My husband wanted a colored California flag looking like it's ripping through skin. After two sessions and a dope tattoo, my husband literally cannot stop looking at his tattoo and showing it off. What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said by other happy customers? Nice lounge, cool staff, stays open really late, Super professional. These guys are really good at what they do and it shows in their work! I recently went in after finally deciding what I wanted, and Oak greeted me at the door. I showed him my design (which was a Chinese calligraphy but drawn in a cursive style with fine brush strokes), thinking it might cause him problems because normally Chinese calligraphy are not written this way for tattoos, and not to mention that Oak was a white guy doing the work. But he assured me that he can do it and produce the fine brush strokes on the tat as well! He then scheduled me for the same day appointment at 11pm after my night class to have it done for me. I dropped a $20 deposit which towards the tattoo and came back afterwards. Long story short, Oak came through big time and I'm really happy he worked on my tat. It came out exactly as my design, and after Oak was done, he told me how to care for it so it healed up nicely without any discoloration. Interesting side note: Oak was given his name because he was originally from Oakland! So being from Oakland myself, we really got to chop it up about growing up in The Town while I was getting tatted. That definitely earned Oak some extra cool points. read more
