When I think about getting a tattoo, I always try to find out how shops are keeping up with sanitation and protecting themselves and their clients even before COVID. This is an open wound on my skin that will heal as appropriately as I take care of it so it's a huge concern for me. With that being said, my friend and I stopped into River City yesterday on a whim. I didn't expect to get my tattoo but I'm glad I did. The staff answered all my questions and I felt confident and comfortable with how they run their business especially now with COVID. The pricing was amazing for the quality of work I paid for. I couldn't pass it up. The best part was that I didn't have to book an appointment because so many good artists are all booked out. Please please PLEASE come here if you're looking for an extremely pleasant experience. Mckenna has been my friend and I's go to for 4 months now. After an absolutely pleasant experience with our piercings in May, my friend and I decided we wanted our tattoos done by Mac as well. My friend has had two pieces done by Mac the past few months and today I received my first. I was extremely nervous at first because it was my first ever tattoo, but Mac once again was extremely patient and reassuring regarding the process. The piece is absolutely beautiful, I had given her a reference photo from Pinterest and asked for a few minor changes and not only did she fulfill those changes PERFECTLY, but she made it her own style with a touch of uniqueness and I am more than happy with the result. I typically conduct deep research before making permanent decisions which is what brought me and my bff to river city for a nose piercing. During consultation we stressed we both had metal allergies- piercer was very helpful and assured us the jewelry selection would not cause poor body reaction. Piercer recommended set of gold hoops for piercing- not studs. We had read that studs were best for the actual piercing and to move to hoops after healing. Piercer reassured us by saying- it's easier to put a hoop in a curved hole later than in a straight hole. Because she is the expert we happily went along with her recommendations. 1 month later bff has an allergic reaction that triggered a staff infection and my piercing bump continues to grow. When I called the shop a tattoo artist answered when I asked for advice he said -"it's probably a keloid, but I don't do piercings." When I was finally able to speak to someone helpful they refused to see me and referred to their instagram page. For after care instructions. That the piercer would not see us. After following the IG instructions for 1 week the bump continues to grow. Bff had to undergo two rounds of antibiotics and is still suffering hives around nose. We finally went to another piercer to change the jewelry. They said we were "had" we should never have a hoop with a fresh piercing and it seemed the hoops were a lower grade metal. The piercer (2) had also received a piercing from the one (piercer1) that gave use the nose piercing and she(1) had damaged (2's) nipples pretty badly. Being inexperienced if River city had better aftercare/ customer service I would not have known there was a real issue, however after seeking a second opinion I feel that our ignorance was taken advantage of and we were convinced to buy more expensive jewelry. I would not recommend this business. read more

Literally, about two hours before our friends were mentally ready, we called a bunch of tattoo shops in Sacramento and were met with some pretty snarky folks. Our only question: "Do you take walk ins? Two girls interested in small tattoos." Maybe that's triggering or annoying for some shops, but we were really surprised by how annoyed people sounded. And yet somehow, River City, the one shop we called that didn't have a snide remark, was everything and then some. They were clear and transparent about pricing, what would look good and what wouldn't look good as it related to size, the space was sanitary, and the artists were just cool people. They gave good little after care bags and were friendly throughout. They were so nice to us and our friends that I'm determined to come back to get my next tattoo here! read more
