I'm almost 80 and planning to continue aging in place in my own home. My plan was to join two bedrooms and have an arch doorway between the bedrooms. They made that happen and also built a wall within the second bedroom to create a bathroom with a walk-in shower with safety concerns in mind. They did all the plumbing, electrical and tile work in the bath that I had planned using ADA recommendations. They also raised the floor in the laundry room to make it level with the kitchen floor, thus removing accidents waiting to happen. My experience with the Improvement Company was pleasant, and the project outcome exceeded my expectations. The two highly skilled pros who worked in my home each day clearly knew what they were doing. Blayne and Yerber were considerate of my needs, respectful of my space, and cleaned up before leaving each day. Our home is now modern and beautiful, we are so glad we hired Christensen Construction over a couple other contractors we met with. INTRO: Christensen Construction was referred to us by one of my husband's acquaintances. We had purchased a home in August and wanted to redo the entire kitchen, and make cosmetic updates to all the floors, master bathroom as well as a second bathroom, and the laundry room. Sounded simple at first but what ensued was practically remodeling every room of our home. While we were eager to move into the home as soon as possible, we had to wait for Dave to wrap up another project before starting our project in November. Though that put a damper in our plans, we went with our gut and waited for him instead of choosing another contractor which was the right choice! He was communicative and easy to reach throughout the process via phone, text and email. EMPATHY: Dave was very careful in adhering to our requests, such as my wish to repaint old cabinets instead of replacing them all. Yet he knew when to push us to get some new cabinets when it came down to the matter of quality of the results - some of our kitchen cabinets were beyond repair and had too much dead space - we would gain so much more by replacing them. He gave sound advice and was always flexible with any changes or updates we added to our project. Dave was always a phone call or text away so we could always discuss concerns, updates and questions. He even took calls with us on weekends! The holidays in November and December pushed back our completion date, so Dave worked extra hard to make up those dates to get us into our home sooner. PRICE: My husband and I really appreciated that Dave invoiced us weekly and the invoice would include daily tasks completed so both parties could track the project management. I think this is pretty rare in the contracting industry but it highlighted that we were paying a competitive rate for all the labor performed on our project. The invoice also broke down what materials Dave bought on our behalf with his contractors discount at stores. Later on, the invoices would show a credit back to us after he returned any extra/unused materials. When it came to cutting and installing our slab countertops, Dave subcontracted the project out to a specialist but they did great work together! Having Dave make the introduction to the fabricator saved us time and work, and the subcontractor's price was very affordable for all the countertops we replaced. QUALITY RESULTS: Electrician, plumber, painter, handyman, Dave is a jack of all trades! All the work is clean and you can see a lot of attention to detail has been poured into the project. Walls that were patched were retextured so the patch would match the rest of the wall, faulty or ugly items are replaced or repaired, lines are straight and clean, gaps are caulked. Every step was taken to go the extra mile. While his team is just two men, Dave has plenty of good quality tools to get the work done and in the correct manner. Our house is now Pinterest, HGTV or Architectural Digest worthy but we will let the photos speak for themselves! Below are some of the high level items Dave delivered on our project: 1. Rewired the messy electrical mistakes created by previous owners 2. Added CAT6 hardwired internet cables for the his and hers offices, and TV (a must for those who work from home nowadays in COVID times!) 3. Installed new cabinets 4. Installed new floating laminate floors and kickboards throughout the house and stairs 5. Some plumbing work such as replacing faucets, and more importantly, adding a pot filler in our kitchen 6. Replaced all our our recessed lights and ceiling fans (even on our tall vaulted ceilings!) 7. Took apart, sanded, primed, painted and reinstalled some older cabinets and doors to make them look brand new 8. Retrofitted all 24 of our old leaky windows with new custom windows 9. Added smart switches throughout the house and installed Nest thermostats

Given these two big projects that Dave has done for us, here are a few things we wanted to share about him and his work: Talented and well rounded: Dave is a general contractor, and he can basically do all kinds of jobs, including electric, plumbing, carpentry, drywall and so on. The quality of work can't be beat. Reasonably priced: Dave's quotes are very reasonable and affordable. His invoices are well organized, listing out all the material he purchased as well as detailing the work processes of each day. Great communication: Before the projects started, Dave used his personal time to meet with us and went through all our expectations. He gave us a lot of great recommendations, including relocating our toilet in one hall bath and installing recessed lighting in our living room. He really thinks ahead for his customers. Right before the project start date, we changed our remodeling plan for our master bathroom at the last minute. We appreciated Dave being so flexible and riding this out with us. The master bathroom was finished completely and met our expectations. Whenever we had questions about the project, Dave was always patient and willing to explain. David showed up day 1 with his subcontractor and he showed up again to pick up his check. Worked seemed fine initially looking at the finished product . However, some issues began arising a month or two after completion. We tried contacting David multiple times so he could have his guys come by and fix some issues where the under decking was coming apart. There has been no follow up from David so we certainly wouldn't recommend his services to anyone that doesn't stand behind what they build. Rhett Corley

I know something's where my fault for trusting and did live about 2 1/2 hrs away. So since they haven't repaired i didn't take down my post, just finishing up my critique. Good luck on your new home and adventure . Things I would suggest if you hire them. 1-don't use their lawyers to save money. Joe suggested we use their lawyers to save money. Spend a little extra so can get help if / when needed. 2- don't take their word until you see for yourself. Was to have 2 truck loads of gravel for drive way but only one was delivered. Called Joe and he said 2 was delivered and knew it was. I called the gravel company and only 1 was delivered. Joe told me I guessed he needed to watch his men closer. Rooney kept tell us how hard it is to built a small house but Joe said no built he has plans and can change. 3-don't build handicap house with barn doors. Rooney told me they don't make handicap barn doors and ask why he didn't tell me - he couldn't tell me everything. 4-check all electrical outlets. circuit breaker kept tripping. Had to hire an electrician to fix. 5-if you get a fireplace get the instructions booklet. They wouldn't put a hearth in floor because wasn't needed. When I finally was given book, it was highly suggested to install hearth because their fireplace can melt LVP. Rooney did come out and measured but never heard again. 5-asked several time where the septic tank was located and where the clean out pipe located. Did finally get a text picture of where they just dug up and placed the clean out. Little thing they forgot. Still no idea where septic tank is. 6-if you using gas for fireplace/ tankless water heater make sure there is a connection for the gas company to connect too. Ask Rooney where the connection was, he couldn't find. Had to do connection after house built. 7-use your own designer. We had at less 2-3, they kept leaving. 8-if you need a handicap house and need wheelchair/walker just pay close attention. Had a little step up from deck to front door. Try getting a wheelchair over that. Joe said he will get a ramp if a remove post. Well there was a metal ramp at door when we came to visit son. Have to give them that one.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. They ran the direction of the counter in all different directions,…read morenothing matching. Kitchen has it changing from left-right to front-back in the middle of the counter. All four of the bathroom vanities run in different directions and the backsplashes do not match the vanity tops. One side runs the same the other is turned 90 degrees. They never gave us a layout. The stone wasn't sealed so water marks showed everywhere until we sealed it ourselves. There are tape marks on the kitchen surface. They sent three people with bottle of Bar Keepers Friend to fix it. Didn't work, still have tape marks. What a mess they made of some beautiful and expensive quartzite stone.
