While it is nice that Austin has a transit bus system I do wish they could expand into Pflugerville and the eastern sections of Round Rock, I like that it's only $2.50 for a day pass (it would be $4 back home in the Tri-Cities, WA which has around 300,000 residents), the upsides is they have 2 bus routes running every 10 minutes on weekdays and many buses running every 15 minutes on weekdays, the downsides is some of the buses don't bother stopping or they won't let everyone on the bus due to unknown reasons, if I didn't need the bus to help me get around I would give it a lower rating. read more

Well, it's 1 a.m., and I wanted to be home about an hour and a half ago. Too bad I waited for the #5 bus that (according to Cap Metro's printed schedule) was on its way. After 45 minutes, I just walked home. About three miles. This is why so many Austinites drive drunk. The level of ineptitude of Cap Metro, generally seen only in Keystone Cops or Three Stooges films from a century ago, is all too real here. You need to have taxi money or you need to be prepared to hitchhike, because relying on Capital Metro is your absolute last resort. read more

I don't typically make New Year's Resolutions. What's the point? Just setting yourself up for failure in all likelihood. Or, I will make resolutions, but not until the end of March, that is usually the earliest I can figure out what I want to work on. Today, however, I have resolved to ride the bus to work at least once a week. 'Why?' you ask. Well, several reasons. In general, mass-transit is better for the environment. And I am an environmentalist at heart, so Capital Metro can help me put my money where my mouth is, so to say, and lessen my carbon footprint at least once a week. Two, I finally live on a convenient bus route to work. It pretty much took me the exact same time to get to work today as it would if I drove. Third, for those of you who have never or rarely used public transportation, there is something really relaxing about not having to actually drive or concentrate. I wasn't even messing on my phone, I was just staring out the window, looking at things and people, and thinking. It was almost luxurious. But if you do need to get some work done, CapMetro has Wi-Fi on some (or all?) buses now. Alright, so what are the common complaints? The bus is slow, unreliable, doesn't go where you want. These things are all true to varying extents and, part of the reason I chose my new house, was because it is on a good bus route. So yes, you have to be on a good bus route, and be going someplace the bus is going, preferably without any transfers. Unreliable? I rode the bus for about 4 years, between 2003 and 2007, everyday, 2 to 4 times a day and never had a bus break down on me. The bus is slow? Again, I was more likely to be on time when I rode the bus than if I drove, since the bus will more likely be on time than I will. Capital Metro is not the public transportation of a large city that Austin has grown into. That much is true. But for certain things, like taking a direct or flyer route to a place downtown, using the bike rack and cycling part of the way, Night Owls, and E-buses, or during SXSW, I'm a fan read more

Not wanting to rent a car while in Austin, I was able to use public bus transportation to go downtown from my hotel and to the airport. It was so easy to use. There is a number you can text to find out the arrival time of the next bus at any particular bus stop. Bus drivers were so friendly and helpful. The price one way is only $1.25 and a regular day pass is $2.50. Airport transportation costs $1.75 one way. What a steal! read more

Not a good option when visiting with young kids as folding strollers to ride (even small ones) is forcibly enforced even when you are the only people on the bus. This is unlike trollies full of shopping, which are allowed on and block the aisle without comment from the drivers. This makes hiring a car much more appealing which is, surely, neither in the interests of the city (traffic problems, air pollution levels) nor Cap Metro. Why not ask parents to fold strollers when the disabled access space is required (like most other bus operators in most countries)? read more

This is, hands down, the worst public transportation system I have used in either the U.S. or Canada. Most buses in my area ran every 30 minutes - not nearly frequently enough - and would take an hour or more to reach destinations easily accessed in 20 minutes by car. Try to find out when the next bus is coming when you're standing at a stop. There is frequently no posted schedule, and if there is any info whatsoever, it will direct you to a phone line that asks you to speak to an automated voice system that confuses the sound of traffic with a human voice. Yes, it is really that bad. In fact, it will hang up after saying "Sorry, I can't understand you," even when you haven't said a word! Easy solution: make it a push-button system where you key in a code for the bus stop (posted on a sign) and the route number. It'll tell you when the next bus is scheduled to pass. Simple. I've emailed CapMetro about this many times, with no response. CapMetro is basically unconcerned about the average person. The drivers are for the most part cool and collected, even when faced with the dregs of humanity, which is how they've received even 1 star in my rating. These people are doing their best to get the bus to its destinations on time, while also being courteous and helpful. But the system itself is broken beyond belief, and needs to be updated for the 21st century. Unfortunately, given Texans' love of single-occupant cars and oil, there seems to be no plan for improvement until all the earth's oil has been depleted and aliens invade. Need to get somewhere in a hurry? You're better off locating a car2go car and paying by the minute. read more

I'm perfectly aware that Capital Metro can't control who uses their buses. They aren't responsible for the man sitting across from me in the back of the bus who was literally drooling all over himself for thirty minutes or the creepy guy who repeatedly asked me which stop was mine. But the bus drivers don't seem to have any options or training in what to do with difficult customers, and they really should. Case in point: A girl wearing ear buds gets on the 1M around 6 pm. She's carrying a giant soda, and the driver explains that she can't ride the bus with it. She just stands there. People try explaining it in different languages and wild gestures. She blinks at them. We are stalled at the same stop for ten minutes before another rider literally pushes her out the door. Soda Girl never says a word or displays any emotion. I guess she was on drugs? I've also seen homeless people getting on the bus and refusing to leave without a free ride, and I've only been using the bus for a few months. In both cases, the bus driver obviously had no clue what to do and pretty much left the responsibility up to the other riders. It feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Even without the more colorful problems, the bus is frequently late. I love that all the stops have QR codes so that you can check on the next bus' arrival, but it's pretty useless later in the day. I work at UT and often take the bus from West Mall all the way up north, and around 4:30- 5:00 pm, a bus arriving ten minutes late will easily add thirty minutes to my total commute. And a couple times they haven't stopped at all. I can't complain about the price because UT covers my fare, but I do pay taxes, so I'm not entirely unqualified to comment on this. Mostly I'm just ashamed that a city like Austin has such a sub par bus system. read more

I had my first multi-faceted CapMetro experience last weekend and I have to say...I am baffled. How is it that the app is waaaaay better than the actual mass transit experience? The CapMetro app is absolutely fantastic! I love that i can get the immediate schedule; the trip planner is on it; I love being able to scan the QR code at my bus stop to see when the next bus should be arriving in real time; and I am in love with being able to buy my pass and immediately use it or save it for later via my smartphone and show it as I am boarding the bus. That being said, when I jumped on the number 1 bus going dwntwn from Metric, the bus driver was very rude about my commuter pass on my phone and just kept telling me "well u gotta press it"after I showed her my pass on my phone screen...there is a little QR code button in the corner, so I thought that's what she meant, so I pressed that and then she yelled at me "no, you gotta press it"...well how about we use our words to tell me exactly what to press...as in "press your screen to change the color of your pass so that it is activated"...how hard was that? The bus I was on was in rough shape, it was pretty worn and dear god was more of a roller coaster ride than any of the rides at Fiesta Texas, especially going down Lamar! I literally got some solid air time going down N Lamar at one point and i don't know if the street is actually that bad or if the bus just had absolutely NO shock absorbers! When we got to the N Lamar Transit Station, the driver just pulled up and got off the bus...no "hey we are stopping here for awhile" or "I am taking my break" or "just stopping to switch drivers". We sat there for almost 20mins before a different bus driver got on and off we went. Seriously, some communication as to WTF was going would have been nice. I thought I had to change buses after we had been stopped there for 10mins and after getting off the bus to inquire (I did not have to switch) I just got right back on since there was no driver to even verify my fare/pass...how does that work? That was the bus sitch. Now on the to the Metro Rail... I had gotten the full commuter pass and decided to take the Rail after doing my thing downtown to a friend's place on the Eastside (a supposed short walk from the MLK stop) and then back up to the Kramer station which isn't a bad walk to my apt. I would have loved to take the train from the Kramer station in the first place, but the MetroRail doesn't start running on Saturdays until 4pm, which again...baffling. So I board the train (no one ever by or around came to verify my commuter pass either to enter the train or once I was on) and I was actually impressed, the train was very clean, the seats were very nice, they have hangers for bikes and even wifi...that was until it was about 10mins after our scheduled departure time and the conductor comes on to tell us she needs to "reboot" the train to see if we can leave the station and "not to panic because the lights were going to go off". This worked to no avail and we ended up having to disembark so the conductor could move the train out of the way for the incoming train that should be able to take us...in about 20mins. We finally pulled out of the 4th St Station around 7:45pm (40mins after when we should have left) and inched our way towards the first two stops. I got off at MLK and ended up riding home with a friend after a chat w/one of the APD at the 4th St Station who informed me train malfunctions are a "common occurrence" and when he said "it's worse when it happens out by MoPac" I decided not to chance it since I had no desire to be stuck on the track at 11pm (which was when I was hoping to catch the train home from MLK). I have to say, I was very much overall not impressed and I really would expect so much better from such a wonderful, innovative, and emerging city as Austin to at least get a handle on their mass transit situation, especially where the MetroRail is concerned considering they are pushing to expand it. Word to the Wise...focus on fixing what is very much broken, especially where the MetroRail is concerned (the Rail doesn't even run on Sundays!?!) before wanting to "branch out". Austin does so many things well, why can't this be one of them? There is so much potential for this to be a good and eco-friendly experience! However, I will not be "going green" anytime soon...because for $5.50 and the headache, the cost was way to high a price to pay compared to dealing with traffic on MoPac. read more

Austin, the 14th largest city in the US, is bigger than Columbus, OH, which happens to be the 15th. Yet, despite a larger population, somehow or other, busfare in Austin manages to only cost $1. ONE FUCKING DOLLAR?!?!?! Try 1.75 per ride here in Columbus. But you know what?? In Austin, you don't get a free transfer with purchase!!!!!!!! Haha, take that Austin! Columbus gives one out! Oh, wait, what was that you said? THAT'S BECAUSE A DAY PASS IS ONLY ONE EXTRA FUCKING DOLLAR?!?!? Fuck Me! Yeah, two dollars for a day pass. Columbus? $4. In Columbus, your day pass expires when the last bus runs for the night. No matter whether you buy the pass at 8am or 10pm. Guess when the bus pass I purchased at 10:40pm on Sunday expired in Austin. Yeah, you got it: 10:40pm Monday. Also, the bus I caught outside funfunfunfest was on time, despite 50,000 festival goers departing the area. See how that scenario plays out in my town. read more

Cap Metro gets worse every year. They seem intent on courting yuppies instead of serving the people who actually rely on them. They do all they can to prevent people from qualifying or re-qualifying for their paratransit service and the constant fare increases and route changes make them less accessible every year. Cutting off the 1L route has made many people's lives more difficult, and the stops for the sleek new MetroRapid are deliberately misaligned with the stops for the standard routes, making transfers needlessly difficult. Schedules are no longer posted at stops so if you don't have a cell phone you're out of luck, and it is difficult if not impossible to get a hardcopy of the schedule. Flashy apps may be fun for the hipsters but there are people who have no choice but to rely on public transportation and our situation keeps getting worse. read more

I like that the city is so accessible with the great bus line! Unfortunately, as one can imagine it attracts the most interesting of people at times! For a two dollar day pass you can't beat it if you have some drinks and want to get home safe or just don't want to have to battle for parking downtown on the weekends! i will only address CapMetro's complete lack of leadership when it comes to New Year's Eve service. Here is what is on their site: "Capital Metro Announces Reduced Service for New Year's Holiday" So much for keeping drunks off the roads! We once made the mistake of going downtown for New Year's Eve expecting to be able to take the bus back home. First, the bus was an hour late. Second, it couldn't pick us up because it was full. And after a 30+ block walk, we were finally able to ride the bus.... standing room only. So much for PUBLIC transportation when they don't service the public at their time of true need. Beggars can't be choosers, especially when it comes to bus routes. Sometimes the bus route arrives late but at least I understand that thanks to construction and traffic. What I can't understand is the treatment people get. There are great drivers and there are poor ones. What happened to me was the latter. The driver snapped at me yesterday on July 14th, 4:45 pm, all for a simple question. The bus was moving and there was a man waving at the bus. It went something along like this... Me: Aren't you gonna pick him up? Driver: (In an insulted tone) No! I can't pick him up! I then told her, that she didn't have to snap at me and that I was just asking. Instead of apologizing, she thanked me instead. Thank me for what? Since when is "Thank you" synonymous with "Sorry?" I didn't mean to offend the driver but had the driver snapped at a different person, things might have been ugly. Things went quiet afterwards and I called the metro what happened. I told the company that I wanted to apologize and went on with my business. I felt bad about it, perhaps I rubbed her the wrong way, or she had a rough day. But thinking about it again on what happened to me. I think it would be better to keep my mouth shut lest I get banned. read more

I was told this evening that the rush hour 990 (the one that goes through UT at around 5:30) was canceled. Like, one out of 3 busses that runs eastbound in the evening was eliminated. To recap, they eliminated the ONE bus that runs just after everyone leaves work at 5pm?! Wouldn't it be more prudent to keep the ONE that the most riders would benefit from. There were no notices posted at the bus stop, either on my way in this morning or at the bus stop this evening...so I just sat and waited for over an hour...like an idiot. Great planning cap metro...you really seem to know how to make life slightly more miserable for just about every rider. Your route planners seem to disregard logic and common sense entirely. What sort of large city is Austin supposed to be with an unreliable transit service?? I can count on one hand the number of times my bus has been on time over the last 5 years. I won't be riding again anytime soon. And btw, there were 3 riders the entire way from Austin to manor. Glad you saved the later bus for the three of us! read more

CapMetro and I have a love/hate relationship. It can be convenient for some thing and extremely inconvenient for others. Crosstown routes are excellent. Cold A/C. Friendly Drivers. But what irks me is the same thing it has always been with CapMetro, they are a commuter service only. Ideal for the downtown work crowd (who doesn't use it enough in my opinion) but pretty shitty for a full blown transportation service. What I mean by this that there are not enough residential stops and there is not enough late night service. We are a city that battles drinking and driving on a nightly basis. We are a city that has millions of tourists in town for business or pleasure. Yet we cannot provide them with a good public transit system to get around town. Step it up CapMetro, model yourself after DART (Dallas bus system), they fought for years to make the public transportation system there an actual means to get around town for everyone not just the every day commuter. Outside of these things I actually really like riding the bus, it is fun to people watch and it is much nicer than sitting in traffic in my car. And its the cheapest of any city Ive been to, to ride this bus. The app is good, and the barcode scanning function at stops works excellent. The Bad???? Inconvenient. VERY time consuming. VERY unreliable. Drivers often pass by people if you are distracted by headphones or if youre texting. Theyll honk, and if you dont respond(because youre listening to music) theyll pass right by. Some jump out in the middle of the street where they can see you, and flag em down. And its often dangerous; lots of criminals, thugs, beggars, thieves. The scum of the earth rides the bus. And if youre a woman, youll have the sexual harrassment experience of a lifetime! read more

The bus system is very unreliable. They're always late, and several nights in a row Bus 20 bus just disappeared from the monitor after saying "Due" for a few minutes and I had to wait for the next one. Bus 803 does the same depending on whether or not the driver feels like pulling in to Pickle Research Campus. This makes it impossible to plan your schedule. Smaller cities have buses that run until 2 am or later, but I'm surprised that all buses except for one stop at midnight in a major city. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Seriously, Austin is a large Texas city and has the absolute worst transportation system of anywhere in this country. As citizens of this great city, (I have lived here for over 25 years), we should be appauled that Austin, that claims to be environmentally friendly, has the worst public transportation of any city in Texas. Worse than Houston. San Antonio and definitely Dallas. Who has a rail system that only has one route and leaves Downtown at 630pm during the week? Really...that is the best you have? You already have the infrastructure... expand the times and the routes. The buses run the same routes or no routes at all, unnecessarily stop at every block downtown and for short stops are expensive. I lived in Amsterdam for 2 years and NEVER needed a car. This would be impossible in Austin. It is almost like the city council wants us to drive our cars and use the tolls they have so proudly set up across the city. We as citizens should demand more and require that qualified people are recruited that know how to manage mass transportation. Otherwise, we can all look forward to sitting in the parking lots of I 35 and Mopac while the city collects our dollars and does absolutely nothing about the problem. What an easy way to get from the airport to downtown. $1.75 for the trip in from the airport? It's a total deal. It was free today because of election day. The only drawback is that the announcement of the stops is a little goofy, it was hard to understand what the driver was saying and I think he was trying to be funny, I'm not sure. Anyway, head down to the pillar marked number 4, the bus comes every half hour, and it's a great way to get downtown in 25 minutes. read more

I spent about 3 months in Austin, out in the suburbs without a car, so I took the bus almost daily. On the plus side, CapMetro is quite reasonable compared to many other cities. For example, on my way out of the city, I got from downtown all the way to the airport for $1.25. By comparison, when I landed in the San Francisco area it cost almost $11 to get from the airport to downtown (maybe a slightly longer trip but certainly not that much longer). While I was there, I usually bought a weekly pass that made it even cheaper. On the downside, buses are not that frequent, aside from the rapid. And stops only have a computerized system telling you when the next bus is at rapid stops when you really need it more for the locals. Worst, many stops have no shelter. I don't know whose idea it was to put benches in unsheltered spots in a town where it's often over 100 degrees. It almost seems sadistic, lol. Better to invest in shelters and skip the benches as it's much better to stand in shade than sit in the hot sun. Then there's the quirk about scheduling. I used Google Maps (not sure if the actual CapMetro app is any better) and missed the bus several times. The drivers speed by most stops and then wait to make up the time at certain designated stops. So for almost every ride, you have to sit there and wait for them to get back on schedule. If they drove more slowly, it would be easier to catch the bus and they wouldn't have to stop so long. Finally, there's a tram that apparently goes nowhere useful. In all the time I was here, I couldn't find a reason to take it. A tram going throughout the city would be nice as an addition or replacement for some of these bus routes. I've read people complaining about mentally ill passengers. Sadly, this is the norm for just about all urban public transportation systems now. Not sure if it's worst than average in Austin, but as the city grows and housing costs go up it won't be getting better. I never felt unsafe, but I'm male and I read a letter in a magazine from a woman who claims she was harassed almost daily. So maybe they need to pay more attention to security. All in all, three stars is about right for CapMetro. Can't complain about the fares but it would be better to have better scheduling and more shelters. read more

I'm a single mom with a toddler who attends a daycare in Harris Branch, 78724. It is hard taking an Uber everyday to take him to school due to no bus line by the school. I was happy to move into town (Triangle area) so I can utilize public transportation. I don't know if you've heard this, but there's not a whole lot of oil reserve for everyone to drive their SUV everyday. :-P During the week, there is a bus every 20 minutes, which is about right for me. Any time spent waiting for the bus or walking to/from the bus is negated by time I would have spent parking and certainly money spent on the lots downtown. On the weekend, 40 minutes can be far too long and make me hop in the car, so I'll take into consideration whether I have a strict timeframe, how bad parking is going to be, and whether I plan on drinking. The buses are very prompt and the trip planner feature is very handy. You can also use google maps and the public transportation option will tell you which bus to take and what time. Almost to a T. Granted, I have had some interesting conversations I didn't care to have, mostly very late at night. Imagine the conversations you'd have in the DWI holding cell, though. During the day I really haven't had any issues with this. I love being able to read (or, this weekend with my allergies kicking my butt, sleep) while getting to my destination. I look forward to expansion of the system and more people going green! I'd love to bus to work (Westlake). read more

My review specifically relates to their rail service from Austin to Leander. I would award the rail 0 stars if allowed. The train is often delayed, and worse there is no coordination with the bus service. I thought the expanded rail service would permit those taking a bus plenty of time to catch the SECOND TRAIN. This has to be the poorest public transportation rail system in the United States. It's time they turn the rail system over to an organization that knows how to run a transit system. I urge you to avoid taking the train if at all possible. read more

Been riding Capitol Metro buses for about the last 20 years of my life and have never had a problem until the last few years with drivers that pass me up or drivers that switch lanes and stop at the red light in front of me and tell me there's another bus later and leave me in the middle of the night where I am. I've already been feeling very disrespected lately by some of the drivers but to top it off now I find out that my means of alternate transportation so that I can get to the bus and get to where I'm going is no longer allowed onto the bus. I have a little transporter which is kind of like a hoverboard with a stick in the middle which is my steering shaft. I cannot take this on a bus because it is not a recreational folding scooter. Now a recreational folding scooter is twice as big as my transporter yet after contesting the ban the supervisor came back with a no I'm not allowed to take by mobility transporter onto the bus which now leaves me unable to get to work or go to the store or even to go see my son. I rely on my transporter to get me from the bus stop to where I'm going since there is no bus stop nearby. I am horrified at the idea that I can't get around my own city anymore without having to walk from bus stop to bus stop thus hurting me even more than I already hurt. Love my bus drivers I just cannot stand the management and their way of thinking. read more

Buses are late all the time and when you ask the driver why they just look at you. If you're lucky you get a shrug. Website/app trip planner often inaccurate. Many drivers are not good at the public interaction part of their job. Communications with customer service are met with form emails with issues actually getting worse. Pretty much an attitude of "If you don't like it get out and walk." Drivers not paying attention and passing by stops that people have requested. read more

Management lies about ridership numbers on the $100 million train because it's so embarrassing how few people can actually use the service with the horrible train schedule. Most of the bus drivers have lead feet when it comes to accelerating and braking. My back usually hurts after getting off those whip lash rides. I always say thank you to the driver but rarely hear a nice response. Bus drivers have almost killed me on my bicycle more times than I can count. read more

It's nice that you can go pretty much anywhere in Austin on the bus. I don't mind that some of the drivers are very rude - they have to put up with a lot of crap and are grossly underpaid for it. I think they need to throw more busses in there to accommodate how much Austin has grown in the past years. It is ridiculous when you pay your fare and don't even have a place to sit down on the bus, because it is loaded well past its maximum occupancy. Isn't that dangerous, by the way? read more

Given that Austin would be a perfect city for ride-sharing services but somehow doesn't have any viable legal ones at the moment, CapMetro is something non-car-renting visitors will probably have to deal with. The good: - Airport shuttle line (100) is excellent. Reliable, has space for baggage, and goes pretty directly to downtown. Definitely worth choosing over a cab. - The commuter rail line is also pretty nice. Well-air conditioned, comfortable seating, and reliable from the times I've rode it. The problem is it doesn't really go anywhere that useful unless you're trying to meet someone up in the northern suburbs who has a car and can fight through traffic. - Most stops seem to have at least some shelter to wait under. - Fares are pretty cheap considering the length of many of these lines. The bad: - The buses can get off schedule dramatically. I was on one that was an hour late and spent about 30 minutes going 13 blocks through downtown. Adjust your expectations accordingly if you're using them anytime near rush hour. And don't count on any announcements on-board or explanations for what's happening. - The length of the lines can lead to a lot of stops and very full buses by the end. - Parts of the website don't work very well and freeze up. Rather inconvenient when trying to view the schedules. read more

I new to riding the bus but at 5pm on 803 express off electric drive motorcycle cut right in front of bus!!! Somehow bus driver (600543??). Older gentleman missed this impatient driver!! Riders were more upset with this man than bus driver!!! IAM sorry I didn't write his I'd number down. He needs Pat on back min. I hope the powers that be reliaze what an incredible staff they have and take good care of of them, they have more than earn it!!! Definitely hoping they eventually extend their service to more places... but for now, still a fan... mainly for their Airport service. $1 cash, hop on & the 100 Airport Flyer takes you through Downtown & even to Campus. Plan on making transfers if you're going anywhere further north than that. Online website is easy to navigate & will give you several options. read more

I grew up in several different suburbs/car dependent towns before coming to Austin to attend UT. I realized how great public transportation is! I use Cap Metro several times a week to get around town. It is so convenient with the use of the online trip planner. You just type in the starting location and the ending location and it gives you bus stops and a schedule. I've had issues here and there with the buses being later than 10 minutes than what schedule says, however each of the times this occurred it was during rush hour when Austin is absolutely grid-locked. Driving a car at the same time would've caused me the same delays. Most of the bus drivers I've met are decently friendly and I've never had issues with other riders. You'll definitely get to see a fascinating mix of people while riding these buses. It's an amazing place to people watch (but don't stare too hard!) I really don't have anything else to compare Cap Metro too because it is the only public transporation system I've used here in the U.S., though if people are giving it bad reviews, I can only imagine how great New York or D.C.'s systems are! There is always room for improvement. Hopefully more bus routes will be added as Austin grows and densifies. In addition I hope Metro Rail will continues to grow with added lines and increased service. Lastly, I would like to see more Park and Ride stations around town and make suburbanites more aware that it exists! When I visited Cambridge, England, there was a fantastic park and ride system with stations all over the outer parts of town that gave a direct route into the city center. I have high hopes for the new bus rapid transit system that is planned to come on the line in 2013. Cap Metro can only improve from here on out! Do you part and ride the bus to increase ridership. Save money, lessen your carbon footprint, and hopefully avoid the stress that you get from driving! I hope one day Austin will become a city where the majority of people utilize public transporation and other alternate forms including biking, riding trains, and walking. read more

Very poor customer service. The train is always way too packed, and they don't have any options for people wanting to travel at night. They claim to have WiFi, but this WiFi is at speeds of less than 2g. Way too slow to be used. Very few routes and departure times. I don't recommend this to anyone. read more

Train is okay. But WiFi sucks. Also train needs to run later such as up til 10:00 PM. Not it's current time, which last arrival is 7:23 PM. App sucks, as you can't always buy a ticket on it. Ridiculous that they took away the ability to use a credit card or debit card at station kiosk. No public bathrooms open at any stations, but they can pay police to use their vehicles as security. Obvious that they don't care really about the public, but the money. Bus drivers drive dangerously and if you call it in nothing is done. Bus drivers ignore people at bus stops sometimes. City needs to take over. read more

I work in the heart of downtown Austin. To park in my building would cost $275 a month. Which is why I have been riding the commuter train, and now bus since moving to Round Rock, for five years. I can't speak to the local routes, but the commuter bus is rather luxurious. It's like a charter bus; clean, cushioned seats, wifi, and reliable. I love being able to close my eyes or watch a movie. I love that the drivers keep the cabin lights off in the early morning so passengers are more comfortable. Most of the riders are working folks who are quiet and respectful, so it's rare when you get a loud passenger. But most of all this review is about safety and to say thanks. A few weeks back I had one too many drinks and my phone died. The bus driver didn't turn me away. He took me safely to my stop even though I couldn't pull up my app to pay. The next day I realized I lost my wallet. I called Capmetro and the driver had found it. Two one hundred dollar bills, credit cards, and three gift cards were all inside, untouched. Thank you capmetro for always getting me home safely and for watching out for me! read more
