When the manager finally became available, he completely ignored me and immediately went to assist a customer who had entered after me. Only after both the other customer and I pointed out that I had been waiting first did he agree to help me--and he did so with clear reluctance and an unprofessional, dismissive attitude.

Citibank is legitimately terrible these days. We opened our business account with them in 2011,…read moreand I've been regretting banking with them since roughly 2015. Their customer service people are either so poorly trained they cannot do the work, or they are malicious liars. In addition, trying to get customer service on the line is a horrorshow of idiotic phone maze, specifically designed to discourage account holders from using it. And that is BEFORE the heavily accented customer representative comes on the line, with phone equipment so pathetically poor that the noise in their call center is louder than the heavily accented voice of the customer service rep. In about 2015, Citibank closed our branch, and then they seem to have fired all the competent customer service people, in favor of offshore call centers. I am trying to close the account, and I've spent the last two weeks receiving conflicting lies or misunderstandings of how bloody long it's going to take to get my data. I despise Citibank and look forward to closing our business account. And we are also on the verge of closing my husband's personal account, and his credit card, too. This is how pathetically inept Citibank is: several times we've tried to order checks through their website. Nope. We have had to go to the producer of the checks and order through them to have a prayer of getting new checks. I would not have trusted them with $2 bucks, much less our business account, if we'd only known how disastrously incompetent they really are. DO NOT BANK WITH THEM IF YOU WISH TO REMAIN SANE. I would give them zero stars if that were possible.

I sought out the closet branch as I needed a document notarized. This is a more modern branch inside and out than the one I previously visited in Rockville MD on Rockville Pike. Making the left turn off Georgia Avenue to get there was not very difficult even without a traffic light. There's a small but sufficient parking lot & 2 drive thru banking lanes. When I entered the lobby an associate was there to greet me. She helped direct me to the person & place I needed to go. Having called the day before I knew there's always more than one notary available. I was put on a list as one of them was off the floor & on their break. I was told that I could take a seat at one of the tables on the left but as I needed a very specific amount of cash out of my account ($68) I got in line for a teller. There are five windows with only one open for customers. I waited about 3 minutes to be called forward by a male associate that emerged from the back. The teller was also my notary. He helped me get my cash after checking my id & handing me a withdrawal slip to sign. He told me that I could actually get very specific amounts of cash now from the ATM at this branch. I noticed that there was also an ATM at the back of the lobby. My transaction was quick and I was told to wait at one of the tables behind me where he meet me 30 seconds later. Having seen my document at the teller window he knew where I needed to fill it out. After which he signed it & stamped it. The transaction was recorded in a log book and I was done. All the associates were friendly and helpful & my tasks here were done in just about 12 minutes. I was happy to have this item off my to-do list! Until next time be kind to each other! #capitalone #notaryservice #banking #personalservice

The tellers are friendly but seem to turn over often. This bank is unusual in that there Is only partial glass between you and the teller, which makes it easier to talk, ask questions, build a relationship, etc. It often seems like there is a line and things move slowly. For example today I spent 20 minutes in the branch. There were three customers in front of me and I had two simple transactions, a bank transfer for work and cashing my expense check. Pro tip: use the drive through whenever possible; there is almost never a line there.

I always experienced excellent service, and staff was courteous to me and my senior neighbors, who lived in a senior building, half-a-block down the street. I then moved to Kensington, and the tellers and staff were very congenial to me. I also had a good rapport with the young tellers, when M&T was located on Montgomery Avenue. Since the bank relocated to Connecticut Avenue, I really dread having to use that branch. In my opinion, the young people I met, seemed to have no social skills. I had a very distressing encounter with a teller there, and she actually raised her voice and argued with me. That was my first encounter. My second trip to that bank, left me somewhat discomfited. I just have the feeling, that smug, but silent disdain for seniors, rules the "rules." What a shame. Young people should understand, that being courteous is not difficult, and that they are the face and reputation of the bank. (For heaven's sake, don't they have grandparents?

I overheard the person that greeted me tell someone they were short staffed today. This type of communication should not take place in the open "public" space. Or, you should tell each customer as they enter so everyone is on the same page. This was a bit discouraging and made me think my wait would be much longer. The person that greeted us spoke Spanish to someone coming after me. I thought this was AWESOME that she was able to help the person in the language with which she was most comfortable. To my immediate right (upon entering), an employee was helping a customer in a restaurant styled booth area. I didn't like/would not like to have absolutely no privacy while conducting business. There are floor to ceiling "windows" that appear to be walls. But these are actually curtains. The curtains go up when/if a transaction is needed. I thought this was cool and created an added safety feature. There are also glass offices where other tellers worked. My experience... I will NEVER return to this location as there is no privacy and the customer service/protection of customer personal information is nonexistent. I got stuck having to conduct my transaction at the dreaded restaurant styled booth!!!! I had to tell the teller to stop repeating my personal info (name, address etc) loud enough for the entire bank to hear (he was not talking loud, there was just no privacy). All in all, I was in and out pretty quick, but will never return to this location.
