I am sure this hotel was beautiful in its day. They are remodeling it at the present time, and will continue until December of 2026. The rooms are very very dated. The furniture in the rooms should be just thrown away. The bed was very uncomfortable with small square pillows. I can see where they try hard to clean the rooms but it's not working well. I am unsure if it's because of the old cleaning equipment or the lack of staff. But I felt like everything needed a good scrub. The lighting in the bathroom was horrible. The lamp at the bedside would not turn on. On the upside, the staff were so very nice. The bar had some nice bourbons. They were not busy and provided popcorn between lunch and dinner menus. The hotel is close to Buffalo Trace. Check out Blind Harry's was a place for dinner. I would not stay here again while it is under construction. read more

Was there in October was a beautiful comfortable space with great staff. Fast forward to the last too days . It was a mess of a construction zone all the comfort and amenities gone. This place is so out of date. The beds are small, the furniture is small. It's just weird. Besides that, our fridge was leaking, the coffee pot is IN the bathroom, the sheets and 'blankets' are gross. There was this odd stain on the floor. The heater was exhausting to use because it just runs so loud but the room and hallway were freezing. House keeping never came even though we stayed 3 nights and when I had to call (from my cell phone) for towels, the lady that ananswered and brought them acted like I asked for the crown jewels. The breakfast was not good at all. Canned fruit. It was like a motel 6 with embassy prices. Parking wasn't great but not horrible either read more

3/25/20 Came here to stay one night as I was out this way for work. I've always been curious about this hotel but where I live close by, I wouldn't normally stay in one. But this hotel was absolutely beautiful! Everything from the fountain background wall to the dining area and the decor. The lady at the registration was super friendly, and very accommodating. As I left most of my belongings at home, she was able to help me with a comb, toothpaste and toothbrush, as well as deodorant. She was just such a blessing. I had a great nights rest at this hotel. Worst hotel I've stayed at in years. I had to stay here for a conference. While checking in one guy was asking for a room change due to roaches. Another guest was ask for a change due to something not working in the room. The food at breakfast and lunch was terrible. My AC wasn't working in my room. I will never stay here again. read more

Hotel isn't the best but I've seen worse. Average hotel room. When I stayed here there were KSU students living here too since their dorms are under construction, which brought some interesting experiences. Staff was friendly. Gym is pitiful. They do have a large parking g garage. Prices aren't bad, but house keeping didn't even come and clean our rooms at all. Towels were small and thin. I wouldn't stay here again. read more

This was a great easy location right off of some major highways and junctions. It's right next to the historic area as well as the Kentucky transportation building And 2 miles from Kentucky state University. Has a great grassy field on either side of building, with lots of free parking. Breakfast was a highlight because they had several hot options of food and it felt like what breakfast used to be, at a real true buffet (before covid)... Although things might have been somewhat dated I think they were just traditional style and very clean and well kept both in the lobby and the room. The staff was friendly helpful and professional. I would definitely stay here again, and I travel for work a lot. read more

Accommodated us with two rooms at 1130pm without a prior reservation. Hotel staff was very helpful and kind. It's an old hotel but has an appealing charm! Mattress was rough to sleep on. The woman at the front desk was rude and acted Covid afraid, but when I walked in the hotel she did not have a mask on and when I came back down to the lobby she didn't either. There was no place to park. The woman told us to park in front of the hotel, but the sign was clearly marked that it was 10 minute parking only. I reserved a room with two double beds, but when I got to the hotel they said they didn't have any more double rooms and would have to upgrade me to a king bed with a fold out couch. The mattress did not have sheets and the mattress was stained. The mattress should be removed immediately. When we called the front desk for sheets the woman acted like she was doing us a favor because she gave us a larger room. We didn't want a larger room, I just wanted the room I paid for and reserved. read more

We booked our sons wedding rooms there. We reserved 25 rooms. 4 days before the agreed cut off date, which was in writing, agreed to 10 months in advance, we had booked 17 rooms. 2 days later, they cancelled all our rooms. Not just the rooms left on the room block but even the rooms that had been reserved by our guests. Three weeks before the wedding the hotel told us they were were booting us all out. They canceled all our reservations of which was 17. Evidently they didn't need all 17 rooms because they relisted some of them at higher prices. We booked at another hotel, the more we talk to people the more they told us we would've been upset to be there. I've never been treated like this by hotel in all my life. I cannot review the rooms because I was at this hotel for a two day conference. However, I can review the building and space. First, the parking attached to the hotel is currently being remodeled, so there is a parking garage directly across the street. I am not sure how old exactly, but the building is definitely older, along with the lobby furniture and decor. What I will say though, the bourbon theme is charming. Of course being a Bourbon Badass, you know I loved the bourbon barrels in the hallways leading to the conference rooms. The conference rooms are pretty standard, nothing fancy, coffee and ice water were provided. However, little details were annoying. For instance, the first day the room was uncomfortably hot and the next day, it was uncomfortably cold. Additionally, individual lightbulbs were flickering in the ceiling. Overall, if were not for the conference, I probably not visit. read more

Horrible customer service and not a bit of care or concern for their confirmed reservations. Not only did they not honor their contract for a wedding block- they oversold their hotel and decided to cancel all of the confirmed rooms in our block. They oversold their hotel and canceled our block so they wouldn't have to Walk guests and pay for their rooms. This all happened 30 days before the wedding , with a festival in town taking up all the rooms in the city. Please- Please do your self a favor and DO NOT STAY at this hotel. Please read the reviews- it's old- outdated- poorly managed and way past it's prime. Unfortunately, this is the only hotel downtown, and why we chose it. There are many VRBO options and B&B's downtown- do your research. I hope this can help someone from experiencing the heartache we did and all the stress it has brought on what should be a happy time. read more

Attending 2 day training in Shelbyville & they booked our overnight here, I was intrigued because I've never stated in Frankfort. First off the gentleman that checked me in was super friendly & made me feel very welcomed. Her recommend the lounge for dinner & told me his was looking forward to 5pm when they opened. Decor was charming, I liked the wall fountain, very nice & calming. Nothing overly impressive, definitely aged. Room was good. What decreased my rating was poor housekeeping, found empty wrappers behind night stand when I was looking to unplug defective alarm clock. Tub could have been cleaner. Heater made noise but didn't kick on until the morning The best part was the lounge staff Cyndie & Todd. I ordered lemon pepper wings Delicious!!! I accidentally knocked over my ginger ale & they were so helpful & non-judgemental. Breakfast buffet was ok, needed some meat. At checkout the lady was friendly & said she would take my issues to management. I will definitely come again for lounge & southern hospitality of staff. read more

Only $95 for a clean, comfortable room on a Thursday night in downtown Frankfort? Sign me up! I wasn't expecting much, but the Capital Plaza Hotel was a nice modern place that exceeded my expectations during our one night stay. The lobby was beautiful, the underground parking garage was convenient, the front desk guys were friendly, and the lobby bar/restaurant was very good. There isn't much night life in Frankfort, so my friend and I, in town for the whiskey tours, started or night off at the lobby bar. The bartender was friendly and knew his whiskey. We were pleasantly surprised by the tasty bacon cheeseburgers we had to accompany our whiskeys and ryes...and beers. The bartender was able to give us a couple of suggestions for nearby bars that we'd enjoy. The Capital Plaza is conveniently located near the Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve Distilleries. read more

I booked this hotel in the middle of the night last minutes because another - unrelated - hotel refused my father, a disabled veteran service with this service dog. I contacted this hotel and they accepted them without reservation. When my parents arrived (driving cross country) she was absolutely accommodating. Upon check out she was more than helpful. So freaking to have such too-notch service, especially after the experience my parents just has a few hours earlier. Stayed at this hotel last night, Thursday, 2016/04/07. We're a military family currently PCSing cross country with 4 animals. Finding places to stay along the way has been nearly impossible. If you're not staying near a military base, pet-friendly hotels are scarce. Here are the great things you need to know about The Capital Plaza Hotel if your passing through, need a place to stay, and are in a similar situation: - The Capital Plaza Hotel has government rates, let them know you're military, and have your ID ready. - They are pet friendly! There is a $25 pet deposit, flat fee at the time of this review, not per pet. - They have a pet walking area, it's huge and beautiful, but be aware that to get to it you have to walk through the under ground parking area, up and over the parking garage, then up more steps to get to it. If you have a dog that had trouble holding it, walk it before you bring it to the room. Bring your own doggy bags to pick up poop. - They'll give you some breakfast vouchers to grab breakfast the following morning (one voucher per person). Other positives: - Friendly staff. - Cable TV - Indoor pool (though I didn't use it, the children that were running back and forth seemed to be loving it). - No strange smells in room considering it's a pet room. Impressed. - Got a room with no reservation. - Underground, well-lit parking. Here are the reasons I could only give it 3 stars: - Very limited breakfast choices for those breakfast vouchers. Nothing that I found that I could stomach, but my 12 year old is a huge fan of chocolate muffins so he had that. They had fountain drinks and coffee. - No appliances in the room except for a very old coffee machine. Don't drink the coffee this thing makes. You've been warned. - Rooms are fairly small with 2 beds in it. Felt crowded. Really no need for gigantic armoire. - This hotel is clearly old. Everything was just ... slightly run down. It wasn't dirty, it just had that aged feel to it but not in the way as if it's trying to be retro. Closer to run-down, just not there yet. Despite the last, the towels and sheets were clean so no worries there. Because of their pet-policy and their friendly staff, we would stay here again if we ever had to pass through. Cindy commands the lounge which serves as the place for all kinds of great food and spirits for the whole hotel except catered events. During our four day stay we observed her serve the tables in the bar area, those seated at the bar, and those of us having a hospitality room adjacent to this area. Working mostly alone she maintained all of her many guests cheerfully, professionally and efficiently. She did the jobs of at least four people at most other locations. She deserves special recognition in the form of praise and monatery award from senior management. The rooms were comfortable and clean and personnel helpful. Catering for our event was probably a 3.5 due to the food not being hot and my beef was over done, tough edible. Cindy made the experience very worthwhile. read more

Can not say enough about this hotel. From the time we checked in they have been so welcoming and accommodating. We called a few weeks ago for getting a few rooms for our car group. Jessica mack was awesome. We told her we was going to shop around for a great price and she said that she had the best. She was correct she was so helpful and took her time helping us all out. Then Todd Price i cant say enough about him. He reserved the front parking for us and coned it off so we could all park together. They even called and got permission for us to park out front and has bent over backwards to help us. I cant say enough good things about them both. read more

The only thing that saves this place AT ALL is their bar and restaurant. That's it. It's old. It's outdated. It stinks like granny's ashtray. Literally. I've never stayed in a hotel where the accommodations are this horrid. Yellow stains in the shower were a nice accent to trying to get clean. Ugh. Was here for two days for work and l booked a nonsmoking room. Yes it was still a choice at this place. Got the fifth floor (word of caution- get any other floor as this is the LAST floor to be converted to nonsmoking, but that didn't stop grandma and her doggie riding the elevator with a heater in her mouth) and immediately I opened the window and blew the fan on the AC unit. Didn't help. I called down and asked if it was nonsmoking. Front desk assured me it was and I swallowed my healthy pride, stayed in the room. It was gross. I tried spraying cologne body spray. Ran out. Talk about feeling like a tobacco leaf after two days. Also their exercise room has a treadmill, an old stair climber, and a BOWFLEX. ugh. The best part? Beer and bourbon selection in their lounge and the decent breakfast buffet. Also got a ribeye steak that was pretty decent too (even thought my coworkers got the same med- rare version as me and yet theirs looked like reheated burger meat well done...). Overall if you MUST stay in downtown Frankfort, options are limited. You might wanna buy a paint suit and roll yourself up and gut it out. I got home and threw all my clothes in the wash. Meh - it'll do. And in Frankfort, a small town capital without a real *standout* hotel, but that fairly regularly has no rooms available at hotels even the slightest degree above 'fleabag,' I suppose that's an endorsement. This place, whether you're using one of their various event spaces for business purposes or staying as a hotel guest, has its ups and downs. The ups: centrally located and easy to see on the Frankfort horizon; plenty of free underground parking; in-house restaurant has some freaking awesome house-made bread and a menu with enough variety (and quality food) to please most, even if you're going to be eating several lunches here. Event spaces have various sizes, locations, and amenities. Staff is low-key, but seems to get the job done. The downs: very dated, from the carpets (ick), to the water features to the broke-ass lobby and signage, to the, well, smells and public space services. On day one of a week-long training I recently attended here, someone vomited in the last stall of the bathroom, fairly early in the business day. It wasn't cleaned up until the next morning. Now, please note: I'm not excusing the puker - proper home training includes cleaning up after oneself - but, egads, why no cleanup in a full business day? There was a clear disconnect between rooms with effective plumbing and those without, at least as reported by fellow guests... So, I guess, I'm saying that if your room smells musty or your tub doesn't drain well,, follow-up sooner than later, or risk ankle deep showers in other people's filth. Just an FYI. read more

Stayed here with family and friends. First the parking garage I was told to park in looked like it was hit with a bomb. Very dangerous to walk in with massive holes in the concrete , wires and debris falling from ceiling. My friends Toyota Camrys front end dragged as he went in and out the garage. Shower head didn't work and smell of marijuana throughout the hotel. Called and spoke to manager carol Jones and made excuses that they didn't own the parking garage. The worst was my friend found a bed bug in his room at midnight. Manager on duty confirmed and no place to go that late. Manager carol Jones was of no help. Gave no refund or discount. Just awful. I asked for her supervisor and called and left message but have not received any reply. I would never stay or recommend this hotel. Just awful. read more

This hotel is horrible...although I have not stayed at any other hotel in Frankfort as a comparison. However, this hotel had the service and the look of an upscale motel 8! First, we arrived around 7pm. We got to our room on a non-smoking floor and the whole floor smelled of smoke! It was disgusting. We called the front desk for some extra towels, and they told us that they don't have a bell service and that we need to go to the front desk to pick up towels. Later, in the room, we realized that the beds have no real comforter. Our beds were made with just two sheets. Needless to say, it got very cold very fast. We turned the AC on low and not off because when we had the AC off the smell of cigarettes seeped in. The bathroom is stocked with crap soap, shampoo, and conditioner, and a coffee machine from the 80s. This hotel DOES NOT include: free wifi, a fridge or microwave, a good mattress, and will not guarantee a good nights sleep. Frankly, I'm just thankful this place didn't have bed bugs. On the plus side, the hotel does have complimentary parking. read more

This hotel was one of the worst I've ever stayed at. it was run down and dirty. l felt uncomfortable laying on the bed and sitting on the couch because nothing seemed well cleaned. The sheets were thin and not well fitted (fell off the mattress in the middle of the night). The reception area and lobby are dated and unclean. The bar/restaurant was closed and there was nothing close by that was open to get a drink or meal. The hotel reaked of weed. I would never stay here again and would tell anyone I knew to steer clear- better to stay at a chain hotel near the shopping areas. read more

Where do I start. Cigarette smell everywhere. Electric plugs dead. No electronic usb slots. Dirty couch. WOULD not sit on it. Tired and dated furniture. The king bed. Oh my god! A king mattress was sitting on top of a queen or standard bottom. This caused it to lean down when someone was laying at the edge of the bed. Constant battle to get back to the center which was like a rock. Worn sheets. Cheap towels, no shower mat. Very slippery from age or poor cleaning. No paper and pen in room. Yes I know I'm getting picky now. A bible in the night stand. No thank you. I am Jewish. Only 10 minute handicap parking. Yes I'm handicapped. Closest parking was a block away. Ok. Definitely an older hotel but has fair prices, a free hot breakfast buffet and lots of charm! If I judged this hotel by the outside and hadn't read reviews, I may not have gone in... but i was pleasantly surprised! They have the friendliest hotel staff I've ever met. We were able to check in a little early since our room was clean, and checkout is at noon. Despite the hotel being older, it was very clean and many parts have been updated. Very close to Buffalo Trace Distillery, and walking distance from a few good bars, restaurants and the old capital building. There's also a park along the river across the street from the hotel. Small bar and dining area with friendly bartender, decent selection and a few choices for food. The area outside the hotel currently has lots of construction (July 2018) but I'm excited to see what it'll look like there when we visit again. read more

I'm being generous with the 3 stars. First the good - quaint, inexpensive, friendly staff, and within smelling distance of the Buffalo Trace distillery. Also very convenient if you are doing consulting work for the KY state government (as I was) since, as the name implies, it is located directly on the government building plaza/quad. The room was spacious and I thought the bed was comfy. However... The entire hotel is in need of a makeover. The TV in the room was at least 20 years old. There were no clocks anywhere in the hotel, including no alarm clock/radio in the room. The iron had old mildewy water in it and it had a terrible leak, so my shirt stank something fierce for my first day of consulting (my second day I went sans iron and had a wrinkled shirt). The shower head was covered in bright red and green mold. BLECK! The "exercise room" had 2 treadmills, a recumbent bike, a stair machine, and an elliptical...of which, only 1 of the treadmills was fully functional, the rest in varying states of disrepair. Worse, there was a water cooler in the exercise room with no water and a rack of sweat towels that all looked used. So...if all you need is a bed, this is a pretty good choice. If you're looking for amenities like a clean shower, functional iron, and alarm clock, go for the Hampton Inn. read more

I reserved a king non smoking room. i was given two double beds in a stinky room and told that there are no more kings left. had to beg to get a sorry out of the front desk guy. apparently reservations arent too serious to them. the pool was small and filled with too many chemicals. so chemically that the windows and doors had to be opened (even though its cold out) to air out the room. everywhere we went the floors were sticky. I was prepared for an older hotel, whos glory was behind it, but this was gross. tub was rusty. bed was unkept. floor had crumbs all over it. bathroom floor was sticky. This is my fourth time staying here and it's gotten progressively worse. The old charm it used to have falls away when your room is just dirty and the toilet runs all night. The WiFi is nonexistent and the staff was lackluster at best. I can't seem to find a decent hotel in Frankfort and don't want to stay in Lexington. Disappointing and missing an opportunity for the downtown businesses that offer some really cool shops and restaurants. read more

The rooms are ran down the beds look like they are from the 1980s, the rooms stink, WiFi works when it wants to work but most the time it wouldn't work. Breakfast was cold and how can you screw breakfast up. The breakfast didn't even serve meat and they charge 6 dollars for the so called buffet with only eggs and potatoes. Will never be back. The hotel itself is really nice and the staff is great. What I'm unhappy with is the restaurant. Our server was great, but the kitchen was absolutely terrible. My girlfriend and I were the only two people in the restaurant and all we ordered was a grilled chicken sandwich and a Philly cheese steak. We booked it for a wedding party and now not everyone can spend the night together because they say they're all booked. We called twice to confirm! We had to request linens from the front desk for the pull out couch and the girl handed them to us covered in hair. Small hairs. I don't know where they came from. So gross.
