First off let me say I always base my rating on the service/amenities/etc for the money. This place was wonderful for the price! It's an older hotel with a small little cafe. It was clean and comfortable. Most of all we appreciated the stellar customer service! We were visiting the Ark Encounter and had our RV with us but based on the reviews of the closest RV parks and their prices we opted to try The North Star. They had a nice large parking area across from the motel that was perfect for our 5th wheel. We also had our 10lb. dog with us. The lady who took my reservation explained they had pet rooms and there would be a small fee. Usually if a hotel says they have specific rooms they put guests with pets in they stink or have been wreaked by rambunctious fur babies but this place had no odor or visible signs of abuse. The flooring was ceramic tile. There was a very nice handwritten note in the room along with bottled water, snacks and even a new toy for our fur baby. We had an issue with the remote control not working and as soon as I reported it someone was in my room in less than 5 minutes to fix the problem. We were so happy with the accommodations we decided to stay another night and see the Creation Museum. We plan on returning and bringing ourgrandkids. read more

This place is horrible. No cups, almost no toilet paper. No response for three hours. Contact person named Sam was confrontational and threatening to my wife. He made up a story about our payment not going through but wouldn't allow me to pay another way. Very vile and caustic person to deal with. No body was onsite and all business was remote. Every time we contacted "Sam" no resolution came forth. This "Sam" person kept calling and threatening my wife even after we left the hotel for a better place. I had to lodge a complaint with the local sheriff for annoying and harassing phone calls. Do not book! read more

So, we went to the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum (look for my reviews) and was very shy about booking a place to stay that wasn't a "chain" or well known. I trusted Yelp as I have in the past to help me. We arrived after a long day and I was pleasantly surprised. It's such a quaint place, that you can see that the check in is a booth in the diner. The main thing (and this is so important to me) is that it was clean. Bathroom floor and shower tiles were very clean. Bathroom......clean. Kitchen.......clean Beds.......clean and quite comfortable. A few things I would improve on (like the rug) but I think not having totally up to date modern furniture and stuff, they make up with down home friendliness. Saw many families here, as well as just couples. Noise was not a problem at all. The diner? CLEAN! Very clean for a diner. Great, great food. I'm definitely a fan! And very large portions. The breakfast I couldn't finish. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It's not the Hilton, if you want all the amenities, go there. It said up top that it's under new establishment.........so I predict that it's just going to get better and better. Because they certainly try hard! read more

We stayed here for three nights while visiting the creation museum and Ark incounter. The owners treated us great and were very pleasant and also the gentleman that took care of our room was more then helpful and was very prompt . This is a pet friendly budget inn. It is an older hotel. For $80/night it was warm (snowed while we were there) and clean. There is a mini kitchen with a fridge, a microwave and sink. The room has a queen sized bed with a bar & two stools, luggage rack & a cute comfortable sitting chair. The sheets & blankets were very clean...and I'm pretty picky about clean. There isn't any carpet, which I loved and the floor was well taken care of. Dawn checked us in and is a lovely friendly person. Rebecca ran the continental breakfast & was accommodating and sweet. Our first night we had some random strangers knock on our door...a young couple who shredded their tire. Rebecca's husband Michael (who is the hotel handyman) went to help the young couple. Honestly, any negative reviews are from people who don't want to pay very much for a hotel but expect to stay at the Crowne Plaza. This hotel fit the bill for our needs. It was moderate in price, pet friendly & clean. The continental breakfast is more than adequate and is included in this cheaper price. Oh...upon check in we found two waters with a snack & a personal thank you card to us. I can't remember a time where I was actually thanked for my business...a super nice touch. We stayed here during a trip to visit the Ark. I am all about patronizing the mom and pop places instead of the chain hotels..... The pros.....Check in was easy, lady at check in was nice, rooms were very clean, beds were comfy, Roku TV but you have to sign into your own accounts on hulu, discovery, netflix etc.....which was fine for me since I have those accounts. The cons.....building is a little older so if you stay in the bottom units it sounds like the people in the rooms above are going to come through your ceiling no matter how soft they walk. There were people above us that walked around the room the WHOLE TIME and they were up at 345 next morning. So I was a little sleep deprived. I did speak to a different lady at the desk maybe hoping to be moved but before I could request that she said quickly that she couldn't do anything about the noise. And next time I needed to request an upper floor room, and I would have this time if I had known this ahead of time. Animals are welcome here and I love animals, but someone had a dog that woke me up barking outside at 7 am. And then it barked when it was alone in the room every time it heard a noise. Then at that same time people were conversating little loud outside close to our room, so I just didn't go back to sleep. read more

We booked this hotel based on the reviews from hotels.com. The reviews do not accurately describe our experience based on the room we were given. The room had a moldy and strong musty smell and was not clean. The refrigerator door trimming had mold. The bathtub was dirty and stained. The pillows were extremely dingy and had a stain of it looked like blood. We did not end up staying the 3 nights we had booked and took a loss for the one night. The girl at the front desk was nice enough to refund the other 2 nights. The room is dated but that is no excuse for the room being clean! read more

For a small mom-and-pop place that's an older building and in a tiny town, it was very clean, newly refitted and had a mini-kitchen. It was also packed the night we stayed, which was nice, since you know they have business and will be there again. Got extra towels for our room, no problem. The pictures are very deceiving. This place was filthy. The floors, the toilet, the sink all disgusting. Not to mention we asked for a smoke free room and the first thing that hit us when we walked into the room was the old stale smoke stench. We immediately called the lady at the front desk who tried to assure us it was smoke free. But I can assure you that was far from true. We booked 2 nights but turned around and left immediately after seeing the room condition. We were told we would still have to pay for 1 night as that's their policy. Well policy or not the room was disgusting and I was NOT paying for 10 minutes let alone 1 night. But the owner was adamant. The place was dead we were probably the only people there at the time. Our 2 minute walk into that room didn't cost her a penny. Especially since I'm sure it wasn't cleaned before we walked in. However the owner would not budge so I disputed the charges with my credit card company and ended up paying 0. Find another place pass this one on by you'll be glad you did. read more

I was headed south on I75 going to stay the night and see the Ark the next day. This motel is 10 minutes past the Ark so I had to back track the next day to get to it! No places to eat at this exit except for a truck stop, food was awful! Motel has a cafe but closed on Sunday and Mondays. Guess what I checked in on Sunday and out on Monday, they did offer cereal, toast and coffee for their guests on Monday morning. Rooms were nicely done tile floors, comfy bed and full size frig and micro. Only thing I would change are window coverings need something that blocks out light. read more

The hotel has a plumbing issue. The tub takes a long time to drain. We showered and got ready and packed the car which took about 45 minuets for the 3 of us and the tub was still about half full. Upon checking out we told the clerk the water was still in the tub. Told her they should get it fixed that nobody wants to take a bath in dirty water and her comment was Well its your water. When it does finally drain there's sediment in the tub. Would have stayed again if plumbing was fixed but not after that comment. read more

It's a great location to the Ark Encounter. The staff was very friendly and personal touches like a handwritten thank you card in our room was a pleasant surprise. The cafe was nice though the menu is small. The room was a mix. There was a flat screen tv but the furniture is dated and a bit mismatched. The bed and pillows were comfortable and there were no issues with the heating. Newer blinds hung on the windows but provided little to filter out the outside lights when they came on so there was a lot of light in the room. I prefer a dark room so I didn't get the best night's sleep. Also, walls are very thin. I could hear the voice and the tv of the person next door. Finally the six digit code to unlock the door was much more than I expected. read more

My husband and I stayed for one night here. We were very disappointed with the inn. First of all, the room was freezing, but once we turned on the heater after several hours and an extra blanket that was given by the manager we were ok. Secondly, the bathroom had mold in the shower tiles and the toilet got clogged. It was wobbly and very uncomfortable to sit on. When we showered the shower head did not have any pressure and the water drained slowly leaving us to shower with our feet in our dirty water. We had to shower with a trickle of water. We went to bed tired only to wake up to the noises of a guest nearby. You can hear noise from outside and next door. There doesn't seem to be a lot of insulation. The positives: There was hot water and the bed was comfortable and the people were friendly. There's a tv, WiFi and a refrigerator as well. They also responded quickly to our concerns. But we would not recommend this place because of the conditions. read more

We enjoyed our stay at the North Star Inn. We had visited The Ark Encounter and found this inn very convenient. The room was clean and the bed comfy. They even had bottled water, granola bars and a personal handwritten note waiting for us! There is a small kitchenette in the room . We can tell they have done many updates. Hopefully the next step will be to update plumbing and bath tub. We had a lovely crab cake dinner at the restaurant that is on the property. Everyone has been so friendly. We went to the Ark Encounter Thursday and we came out tired! Decided to give this motel a try. The young lady who answered the phone, was friendly, informative, listed and answered my questions. We drove in, saw the sign to register in the diner, took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. The room had a full size apartment size refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee pot. The room was clean, quiet and the bed was comfortable. The window a/c kept the room cool and was not too noisy. The wifi signal was excellent. Upon checking out, hubby went to the cafe to get ice and was welcomed and even helped to iced down our water bottles for the drive home. The motel is older and needs some updating but we didn't mind because we had just what we needed a good night rest. Thanks North Star Inn Reservation Clerk and Staff. read more
