Chris and Ryan were both amazing! I was having trouble filling the car up with gas and brought it in the Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend. They were able to squeeze me in and discovered the fuel lines were clogged. They also found a few other issues with the car and fixed those and they changed the oil. I had a blowout on my commute to work and was in need of a replacement tire. After an exhaustive search of local repair shops, I came across Capitol Hill Auto Service Center. I reached out in request for a new tire, a rare size, Chris responded promptly. He mentioned that they didnt have my size (and exact model) in stock, but would call around to see if he could get it in that day. He called me back, as he was able to find the tire - from a different vendor - but would be able to make the repair that day. I had my car towed to his location and recieved a call from Chris, before the end of the day, letting me know the car was ready. So the short version of the story: My bf ran over a ginormous pothole (thanks DC) which resulted in a flat tire (back left tire). He was complaining about having to drive all the way to Virginia on run flat tires to the BMW dealership. This is where I came in. My first thought was to yelp and luckily we found this place (conveniently next to us...and also the Eastern Market metro)! I messaged them Saturday evening and they responded first thing Monday morning at 7am (thank you). My boyfriend got in touch with them on Monday and by Tuesday he was driving his car back with the new tire! They ordered the tire for him and installed it right away once it came in. Their pricing was upfront and honest and the servicing cost was very affordable. He ended up paying 3x less than what he thought he would be paying at the dealership. Superior service. Capitol Hill came highly recommended from a friend and I liked the other reviews on the site so I felt comfortable driving across town to have them work on my car. It was a small problem (a bolt was stuck in one of my tires) and they fixed it in a morning. Despite the fact that I showed up at a really busy time (8am), I was treated very well. The one down side to the service center is its lack of parking. It's an ongoing dynamic that the staff is used to dealing with but one that can be a bit confusing at first. For instance, I had to find a parking spot a couple of blocks away and then tell them where my car was when I dropped off my key. However, the staff do all they can to minimize the inconvenience and are very conscious about making sure to keep your car out of a ticketing area. Overall, I was very impressed with the service and the quality of work (though my job was a pretty simple one). And, to the degree it matters, the guys working there are generally easy on the eyes. read more

These guys were patient with me. Took my calls and to some degree provided emotional therapy (lol). Replacing a *German engineered PORSCHE *blown *engine is no small task, most shops won't even attempt it, they will refer you to a Porsche dealer. Called them today and PORSCHE is done on time and was told it runs great with no problems! Most shops would not take this job on do to complicated 4.5 L Porsche complicated engine, but they did. They also wanted to keep car overnight to test again and check for leaks. WHO DOES THAT RIGHT??? They do, because they REALLY CARE about their work,customers and their loyal following. My girl is co-owner of Car, she will give an update on repair coming days. But I'm very comfortable with the price,integrity,commitment and work ethics's of this fine establishment! I brought my car in to have the breaks changed early on a Tuesday morning. I understand they are busy but it took them 2 hours to even see my car, I was told they would have a look that minute and would call me shortly to let me know if it can be done today or another day. The $1,100 for all 4 break pads and rotors seemed steep but I needed the work done immediately and agreed. The technician said end of the day or first thing Wednesday morning I would be able to pick my car up. When I went to pick up the car a full day later, noon on Wednesday, the person who helped with my bill said he changed the bulbs in my breaks for me charging an unauthorised $40. The break bulbs that were in my car were fine and recently replaced. There is a known fault in my fuses that reads the lights aren't working when they are. This bulb change was unnecessary and way too expensive for light bulbs I could do myself for $8. When I went to pay, the machine had a 4% charge added to it for processing that I was not informed of until we ran my card. Not only were my breaks over priced to begin with, they charged me an additional $80 in fees and unnecessary unapproved work. I will not be using them again read more

Definitely a fan of this place. I had some drama with my side mirror and the heat shield under my car. Honda told me it would cost $300 to replace the heat shield when in fact, you simply just rip it off the car and call it a day. Capitol Hill Auto saved me some serious money and was quick and easy to deal with. I did get a little 'tude over the phone about not being able to pick my car up until 5pm but it was snowing and they wanted to go home so I'll let it slide. But really, I have a job and even 5:00 was pushing it. Some weekend hours would make this place even better.. I 100% plan on bringing my car back here in the future when something else inevitably goes wrong with it. Oh, and it's pretty convenient that it's only like a 10 minute walk from Union Station. Got new front brake pads and rotors, an oil change, an alignment and had the cigarette lighter in my car fixed (thing had popped out and blown the fuse that operates my radio!) all fixed for about $650. Yes, it's a bit pricey. But they're honest and fast. Had a small hiccup where I had to take my car back the next day for the cig lighter (they thought they fixed it the first time, and they hadn't...so I went back). Not even sure where to begin other than TRUST THESE GUYS WITH NO WORRIES! Being from out of state and not having a service shop for my VW Jetta since I've never needed one in the past, to getting a hit and run where the person left no info and ran off, to dealing with my car insurance...it all seemed like such a headache and it all happened so quickly. I had to find a car shop in a few days and thanks to Yelp and Google, stumbled across these guys and the great reviews and just decided this is where I'm taking my car. I'm the type of person who takes excellent care of my car and have heard horror stories of some of the surrounding DC shops. I took my car over since no one picked up the phone and at first was hesitant b/c who doesn't answer their phone? But I now understand why. These guys are working and working very hard to make sure your car is back to it's original form. My car had so much damage to it and i was super worried about leaving it with a small shop on Cap Hill but also with a place that didn't answer their phone! Chris, who sits at the front desk on his computer is SUPER responsive and quick via email and any questions/concerns I had he got right back to me asap. And I really respected that. My car got fixed super quick and back to it's original shape with no issues. Coming from someone who is very picky, cautious and a bit paranoid about who i leave my car with, i can guarantee these guys will do a fantastic job And you don't have to worry. I just got back from seeing Ryan at Capitol Hill Auto Service Center. He is BY FAR the best car guy I have ever dealt with. I ordered a set of tires on tirerack.com and this shop was recommended to do the install. I called him at least 3 times to ask him random questions before placing the order. He was patient and answered all my questions. The tires were delivered directly to his shop the next day and when I pulled in he greeted me and did a quick check on the car tires. He said the tires I ordered (rears) were in better shape than the front ones. He said I probably needed to get all new tires but the rears were in better shape than the front if I was doing it in any order. The tires I ordered were very expensive because they were the same run flats that came on the car. We quickly discovered I had a spare tire in the trunk under a hidden mat and then we realized I did not need the run flats. He quickly called his rep at tirerack and negotiated a return on the run flats and placed an order for non run flat all weather tires (all 4 tires cost me only a little more than what I had paid for the original 2 run flats!). More importantly, Ryan said he will handle the return by storing the original tires over the holidays and let me know when the new tires came in. Ryan was friendly (he even fed a neighbor's dog a treat while I was there) and answered all my questions again when I was with him in person. I will definitely use him for any of my car needs and I am going to recommend him to ALL of my friends. Great local shop in DC in Capitol Hill. read more

This place is DISHONEST. I went in for only an oil change, and he fraudulently charged me for an additional tire rotation that he DIDN'T PERFORM. I almost missed this, as when I picked up my car he rattled off "We also looked over your car, everything looks good, checked your breaks, rotated the tires, checked the tire pressure, it's all good." This sounds a lot like the free check-up a lot of places will perform to let you know what services you will be needing, and hopefully get you to come in for them. However, he charged for this, with no phone call asking my permission for the additional service, and of course most problematically, without actually performing the service. He gave the same speech to the customers in front of me and behind me who came in for other services. I saw one of their bills and it also had the charge on it. So in addition to myself, I witnessed him defraud another customer. He has clearly cheated many people. Incidentally, the oil change was overpriced at $60 (should be less than $50, but guess you can get away with these things in Capitol Hill). Additionally, since others have commented or asked-- since they do not have parking, they may store your car anywhere in a several block radius and have you go find it on your own. PRO-TIP from years in the industry: If you don't know what tires you have on your car, ALWAYS make a little chalk mark on your back tires before you send the car to the shop. That way if someone claims they've rotated the tires, you'll be able to tell if they're just trying to take advantage of you. read more

Hands down a great shop. It's the second time I've taken my car to Chris, and I can't be more pleased. Chris and Ryan always take the time to explain what's wrong with the vehicle without making you feel uneducated, and further, without trying to rip you off (which is hard to come by as a female customer). Both times they give it to me straight--that I can or can't hold off repairing certain things. For example, while they said I had to replace my engine mounts, they recommended that I not repair my gear shift because of the cost and age of the vehicle. I even went in with a busted tire ready to replace all 4 of them (because I knew they were old), and Ryan recommended only changing 2 to get the maximum wear out of the others. Could have easily not made those recommendations, and I would've been none the wiser. Further, they are reasonably priced. So happy to have found this place. read more

Had a wonderful experience here, after a few bad ones at another garage. I talked to Ryan, who was very honest and explained things clearly to me. I came here originally just to get 2 tires. He said I needed four, but didn't pressure me into buying them. Also warned me of my front suspension needing repair, but told me it wasn't dangerous yet, unless I was planning to go cross-country. I know other places would have taken advantage and said I would need to fix it now. The prices were fair from comparing online and talking to trusted friends. Only downside is that if it's a busy day, you have to leave your car on the street. I don't have a D.C. license plate yet, so I was worried about getting a ticket. But not a worry, if you have a zoned car. Highly recommend this place for people needing maintenance on the hill! read more

I have a 20-year-old car experiencing transmission slips and then the electrical system started shutting down mid-drive. Capitol Hill auto was extremely responsive on the Yelp app when I need to find a place to tow it after it completely died. Chris and Ryan confirmed it was the alternator and I asked if they would give me an assessment on the overall condition of the car and make a recommendation on the general shape of the car (i.e. signs it would need a lot of other repairs in the near future). I worried it was not worth repairing given its age, despite relatively low mileage (115k). They found and fixed for a very low fee a loose transmission hose and refilled the transmission fluid. They also replaced a turn signal light I had not realized was out. I paid about 3 hours labor plus parts -- very reasonable and in line with standard repair costs. It's driving like a dream again! I wish I had brought it in sooner and can't recommend them enough. They were very communicative and responsive throughout the entire process. read more
