We live here and we love it. The cleanliness and prompt service is probably why I wouldn't ever move until the military sends us elsewhere. The staff are friendly and put their best foot forward when interacting with tenants or guests. The only part of the building that is accessible to the public is the lobby and basement-visitors cannot access residential areas without a key fob or a front desk staff member. Capitol Place is an awesome place to live. The building is beautiful, and the amenities alone are worth it. The staff are always pleasant and friendly, and so are the tenants. If you're needing a secure place to live and park, Capitol Place has both. Staff regularly roam the building (including parking, stairwells, etc) through the day and night to ensure everyone's safety. The condo is a very family friendly place to raise your children, and also a good place if you don't have kids. The gym with AC is really nice, and the equipment is kept clean. The kids play area is well maintained and is a safe spot for your keiki to run around. There is also an adjacent dog relief area that is serviced regularly to keep it clean. It's also in a good location in town - close to major businesses in downtown, and several hospitals. The easy freeway access is nice, and major grocery stores are nearby. read more

This building is spectacular. I've been here a couple of times for parties and get togethers. They have a variety of amenities in this building. They have a party room, a gigantic TV screening room, gym and an infinity pool, to name a few. The place is immaculate. They must have people cleaning 24/7. They also have huge bbq areas, where you can reserve and have parties. You need to know someone who lives there and they need to sponsor you. The only thing that I didn't like about this place is parking. They have only a few guest parking stalls so you need to find street parking. read more

We've been living at Capital Place for two years now since moving here from Kauai. We were so happy to find our apartment on the penthouse level (floors 34 and up). Getting a unit here is very difficult because of high demand so if you get one you're lucky! The atmosphere of the building is like living in a nice hotel because of the beautiful design and furnishings of the units and the common areas. Some of the Pros: Great location near H1 on/off ramps & major arteries Tight security with FOBs and 24HR Staff Great Gym with Machines/Free Weights and Yoga Room Movie Room Cabanas and Grills Best and Friendliest Staff (Emilio, Ruperto and Marty in a particular). Some of the Cons: Guest Parking is very limited and not allowed overnight but guests can pay to park overnight. Garage is a bit tight to navigate Sirens from ambulances are constant and annoying. There are more luxurious and expensive buildings in the downtown/Kakaako area such as Hokua and The Pinnacle but Capital Place does it all so well that it's a great value. Came out to Honolulu for a wedding and to visit friends and I was fortunate enough to be able to stay with one of my friends for a week. The Capitol Place is easy to find because it's a big blue building next to the Honda dealership. The place is well-secured with key-censored elevators and a couple of gates in the parking garage. The building exterior and interior are both very modern looking, and the ventilation is great. It's also located in the prime downtown location. Plus there is a small BBQ grill area as well as a small dog "park". Although I am not a local of Hawaii, I would definitely recommend The Capitol Place to anyone who's apartment hunting for something in a prime location. read more

Such an awesome place to live. I'm sad to be moving out! I was renting for the past year. Great but sometimes sketchy location and within walking distance to downtown and Chinatown. The building has been well maintained and is always clean. Love the pool and cabana area. The gym is clean and has enough weights and equipment that you don't have to walk to 24. The movie room is awesome and I wished I used it more. The staff is friendly and helpful. The tandem parking kind of sucks and people drive way too fast in the parking structure that I've almost been in an accident a few times. But that's the only negative thing I can think of. I was initially planning on purchasing a unit here, but we chose to sign a short term 6 month lease instead... and we're really glad we did. I'll start off with the pros of the building: 1) Excellent gym- always clean and the machines and weights are maintained in great condition. 2) Excellent staff. Always friendly, responsive, and professional. 3) Convenient location, especially if you work in town. Steps away from Chinatown which has changed a lot (for the better). 4) Pet friendly. They even have a mini dog park. Now for the cons: 1) The building is now 10 years old and starting to show its age. AC units are starting to break down. HOA fees will continue to rise to keep up the maintenance costs. 2) Cheap construction materials- the paint on the cabinets were originally painted white, but due to cheap material have all faded to a horrendous beige. 3) The master bathroom is an absolute disaster. The bath/shower floor is way too shallow, and causes a puddle outside every time you shower. Overall, I would recommend renting, but this place way past its prime if you're looking to purchase. read more

Large! Beautiful! Fringe benefits! You know what? They used to say the same thing about Enron. Like the University of Hawaii football team under Greg McMackin, Capitol Place has good intentions, but poor execution. For the common real estate pursuer/buyer/renter/dreamer, this place may wow you at first glance, but when you're going to spend over $700K to buy something, you should at least consider the details. 1) "Dog park" is actually a small square-shaped area where the owners' dogs treat it like the state legislature treats the people of Hawaii--like a toilet! When the real estate agent showed it to us the stench was unbearable standing 10 feet away. Oh, and the dog park smelled, too. ;-) 2) This place has less storage than Roseanne Barr's back pockets in her jeans. Storage in a condo, like the Coast Guard, is underrated and underappreciated until you need it! 3) Nice pool, but why is it on the east side of the building? Because of the location, direct sunlight comes only in the morning. So unless you work the night shift, your skin is still going to resemble that of an anemic vampire. (Which is not a good thing, unless you're Kate Beckinsale in Underworld...vavavavoooom!) 4) Low ceiling. I can understand the need to max out the number of condos in the building, but I felt like Mufi Hanneman standing in Ben Cayetano's house, the ceiling was so low. 5) Gym is nice, but still not extensive enough for someone who likes to lift weights. For good intentions but poor execution this place gets 1 star. It's not worth eating top ramen noodles for breakfast. lunch and dinner for the rest of your life. read more

I've lived here for about 3 years, in two different apartments. There's a lot of reasons why I never left. The location (3x). You live on the Pali, but also the H1, and you're a stumble home from Chinatown/HPU/Dowtown. Trendy bars? YES. Delicious Chinatown eateries? YES. Fancy-shmancy downtown suit and tie folks? YES. The staff- always going out of their way to help me, whether it's moving in, printing off my boarding passes, or setting up one of the cabanas for a BBQ. Always professional and courteous. The facilities- great pool and hot tub, awesome gym, the units are brand new with viking appliances. Movie theater, storage lockers for your sports gear, BBQs, pool cabanas, etc. Security- everywhere you go requires a keyfob. While this can be annoying with friends over, you'll change your mind when you can look out your window and watch drug deals go down just across the street, or see the urban campers setting up shop by the Safeway. There's probably a reason Da Kine Bail Bonds moved onto Queen Emma. The one downside has been the increasingly oppressive regime of the condo living association- like forcing a $150 'insurance fee' if you have a bbq outside with alcohol with 7 or more people. Second, they banned smoking on the units' outdoor balconies. I'm not even a smoker and I find this a bit much. I don't own pets but this is one of the few apartments in the area that allows them (and has a small dog park). read more

I was so excited when my friend decided to have a birthday party in one of the private rooms. The building is beautiful and the inside is equally beautiful. The pool and hot tub are amazing. The cute cabanas are the perfect place for a BBQ or picnic. Why the three stars? The parking is terrible and maybe we should have parked outside but we didn't know. So here is my warning for everyone else. We parked in public parking which is right next door and I think above the Honda. Once we got in to park the signs weren't so good and we went into the dealership lot. Then when we finally parked there were no signs and we took the elevator down to the street level. We finally found our way. Phew. Then it came time to leave and there was not parking lot attendant in the booth. I finally called the building security to let us and the poor guy in front of us out who must have been there for 5 minutes. read more

This is a great building....but beware that the security is everywhere. Besides the "eye in the sky" aka camera's the security is tight. This can be a good thing but when your at the pool or at the BBQ, it can be overwhelming. Other than that its a great building to live in. The exercise room is awesome. Hmmmmm, let me count the ways that I love thee... 1) Beautiful lobby, ground to ceiling glass doors 2) Honda dealership under the building -- need a new car? How convenient! Also, Honda dealership offers a discount for residents of this building 3) Easy access to grocery shopping - Longs Drugs Store and Safeway supermarket are right across the street 4) Seven BBQ stations (known as "cabanas") - 5 are located right next to the infiniti swimming pool and 2 are located next to the dog park 5) Three BBQ grills for use anytime! Not counted as one of the 7 BBQ stations in #4. 6) Dog park - nice! 7) Infiniti pool - love it! 8) Jacuzzi - very decent size, strong bubbles.... ahhh, very nice 9) Gym - nice equipment, well maintained and all cardio equipment have a TV mounted on them! yea, yeahhhhhh 10) Two music (sound-proof) rooms - one also has a half piano for use 11) Huge tv/entertainment room - fits 50 w/ very comfy sofas. I think Capitol Place is pretty great. Condo living is much better than I ever thought it would be (I prefer houses), and in my opinion, the pros definitely out weigh the cons. PROS: - the VIEW: i face the capitol & it is beautiful, good trade winds too! - the UNIT: clean, spacious layout. semi-blank canvas you're able to add personal touches to, great appliances, beautiful cabinets, counter tops & bath. - the STAFF: is so great & pleasant. I was shocked when, within a week of moving in I was addressed by name. I feel extremely safe with all the security, and everything is constantly being cleaned. - the DOG PARK: is small, but it's not intended to be an actual "park." it's a doggy toilet & serves it's purpose. The park is cleaned, disinfected & deodorized every morning. it does smell badly sometimes, but that's because of inconsiderate pet owners who don't spray down 1's & 2's like they're supposed to. I'm happy the condo has one at all cause I don't feel safe at night relieving my dogs street level. - the AMENITIES: are new, clean, and well maintained. I love watching jeopardy on the treadmills' LCD tv while running & there are more than enough chairs around the pool to tan on. - the LOCATION: centrally located, easy on/off freeway & you can walk to SO many places...grocery, restaurants, bars, work, etc. CONS: - the LOCATION: the homeless/crack head element that I've encountered. crack heads whizzing down the sidewalk on their bikes & there's some type of rehab or free clinic on the side of the building so there are more than a fair share if shady characters, not to mention I swear I saw a prostitute jump out of a car behind central inter. I just don't walk the streets after dusk alone, or stray from the building in the wrong direction. the PARKING: sucks! we have 2 stalls because we have a 2 bedroom, but it's tandem, and the biggest pain in the ass ever! There aren't that many designated guest stalls, but there is a parking garage guests can utilize & if they leave past a certain time the attendant is gone & they don't have to pay. * Still loving this gorgeous place. I don't think I realized how beautiful it really was when we first moved in. Now, having lived her an additional 3 months I can say "WOW". Living close to Chinatown, but not IN it, is definitely a fringe benefit. Within walking distance to several food stores. Having a private school right across the street to send my kids, having a doc and hospital right up the street, several art galleries, pastry shops - NICE; a salon and spa on the corner. It's really the uber convenience and not having to sit in traffic to enjoy these amenities. Then there's the bus stops, parks, library, everything. We looked at several buildings in the area because I needed to find a building that was dog friendly and close to work. It's fairly high-end, a bit pricey, and totally worth it. Probably one of the cleaner/more pristine buildings on the island, my condo was immaculate and kept in really good condition with the appliances and fixtures still looking brand new. I can't imagine why someone would slam the dog park. It's as convenient as it gets, and they are strict about keeping it clean. Security is very tight- they busted up a loud party down the hall from me a few months back. I don't think the management is interested in putting up with a lot of crap - but they seem friendly and very reasonable. Overall, I'm glad I moved, the amenities - gym, pool and cabanas are all stunning and kept in great shape. Hope to be here a long time. See if you can buy/rent a corner unit - they are spectacular/stunning! The floor to ceiling windows make the unit seem huge and open. I'm in love. read more
