Not only does it work, it vies with Speed Bumps bumper cars as Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk's hotspot where students, blue- and white-collars of all ages flirt with adding a cervical collar--maybe not that drastic, but Space Race's thrill quotient surpasses Speed Bumps' because head-on bumping is definitely allowed, and you can drive backward. The lack of a steering wheel might confuse the first-timer, but it doesn't take long to learn which direction the various lever positions will steer the car. The easiest are both levers forward for forward, and both pulled in for reverse. From there, you'll absorb how to turn without spinning (and being a sitting duck), and how to turn in reverse. New this year beneath the cars are colorful LED rings that reflect on the stainless steel floor, and day-glo art on the enclosure walls that comes alive when the ride starts, the house lights go off and the blacklights take over--a delightful setting in which to wreak havoc. I don't know how many years I have left to ride Space Race. Not because of the impact, but the contortions necessary with barking knees to get seated in the car--you're literally a low-rider--and even worse, jockeying my way out. A man's GOT to know his limitations. On our last of five go-rounds, we had four fellow seniors enter the ride, a first for the day. We had a nice convo with one of them several hours later when we crossed paths on the midway. Daredevil codgers GOT to stick together.

My 4 year old loved the different zones and kept jumping from one section to another. While we were there we joined the science activity and my toddler made an interesting airplane. It was a little busy in the afternoon on a Saturday mainly due to birthday parties. They only have one bathroom so be aware that you might have to wait in line especiallyif theres a party. Other than that, for $10 my kid had a great time for a couple of hours. We'll come when we visit Santa Cruz again.

There were plenty of things to do - a play kitchen, arts and crafts, dinosaurs, cars - it really tailors to a wide range of children. My daughter (6) and my son (3) were never bored - with a daypass, we had access to the facility all day and we actually came back later in the afternoon! I would say one con was that there was only one bathroom (not stalled bathrooms), so depending on how busy it is there may be a wait to use. We were there Saturday morning and it wasn't too busy but when we came back in the afternoon, there was a birthday party and it got busier. The museum closes at 5pm. Definitely a must-visit for when we visit Capitola again!

Cathy Bentley was the barista and she is also the very friendly and knowledgeable owner of their thriving business. They have excellent wines from prominent wineries in California. I liked the "Cheers" feel good vibe at the venue. They have big storefront windows and an outside patio. Yes, the dance floor and the patio are relatively small, so come early! I had a glass of the Hatcher, Murphys, 2022 Sauvignon Blanc. It was crisp, light to medium-body, and tasted fresh with a hint of almost green apples. As you can see on their menu they also serve craft beer and food. Something for everyone! So, on your next night out, come for the fun and enjoy the friendly atmosphere, live music, and your preference of beverage. Mine, obviously is white wine. See you on the dance floor. -Susan in Santa Cruz

The best part is that they seem to have really cool regulars who are chill and welcoming. I love that vibe! Tips if you visit: - Check the website and go when there's a band. It's 'dead' when there isn't a band. - There's no entrance fee when there's a band. Yippee ki-yay! - Skip the wine flight. The pours are pretty meager. You'd get a better "bang for your buck" if you get a glass of wine that you know you'd like. - Be ready to be social (at least a little) because you may need to share a table when there's a band. - As for food, tots are tasty, but portions are tiny. - Pizzas are your best bet if you're hungry. - Skip the paninis. See photo. - Feel free to dance if the vibe takes you there! Cork and Fork is a fun place to check out.
