Came here on a family vacation and decided to visit Neptunes for a round on mini golf. To our disappointment the entire facility was reserved and filled to the max with many different Boy Scout troops. We were unable to play our favorite round of golf. Very disappointed. read more

Arcade and mini golf on the boardwalk, the building itself is an important part of Santa Cruz history and I like how the second story has a small wall, preserving old photos and stories to keep them from becoming ghosts of the past. Used to be called the Natatorium, or the "Plunge", was a pool filled with salt water that was pumped in from the Monterey Bay, then heated for bathing comfort. There were once acrobatic water shows here and demonstrations by Duke Kahanamoku who popularized surfing and whose statue you've seen in Oahu and Huntington Beach. There is a small aisle that has old boardwalk games like fortune telling and strength testing. There is even an old-timey peep show of a swimsuit girl wearing much more clothes you'll see just walking down the boardwalk. The largest feature is a pirate themed 18 while indoor golf course which is perfect to burn time in sunny or rainy weather. It's two stories with an elevator you can ride up in the middle. Wow, despite the pandemic going on, I'm glad that Neptune's Kingdom is still around :') My partner and I had fond memories coming here during university days, despite being broke and hardly able to afford playing a lot of the arcade games and snacks offered here. It felt different being able to come into Neptune's Kingdom with less worry about finances and more excitement and freedom about what to play in the arcade! Needless to say, we spent a good 3 hours on the coin spitting game. I wish I knew what the name was, but at the same time, I didn't lol. That machine ate a Benjamin from my partner and I. We had a goal of collecting the entire character set of The Wizard of Oz...and guess what... we did!! But at what cost...LOL. It was so fun to be kids again and enjoy some normalcy in life :') it was also nice to see people out and about enjoying arcade games. By far, the best mini golf course I've ever done! It's not challenging at all but the animatronics and all the details and decor make it absolutely fun! I especially liked the holes that were in the dark and the one with the wheel to spin (I had to close my eyes for my 1st swing!). Generally speaking, indoor mini golf isn't as good as regular mini golf, but I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The course was filled with a variety of putting challenges and I enjoyed watching the C level animatronics. It was a nice surprise that a portion of the course was glow in the dark! One of my favorite miniature golf courses!! 18 holes, up to 4 people, and only $7/person (no cash). Going through the whole course takes a while if you suck (like we do), which makes it super fun! The course takes you upstairs, into a black light zone, and back down. My only complaint is that a few of the holes are very similar. They have a no food or drinks sign, but they were nice enough to let us sip our soft drink as we went along the course. If you want a fun date or friend activity, stop here! read more

Took family and family friends mini golfing in the pirate themed minigolf course they have here. Pleasantly surprised that they added a cool new section a couple years back. The biggest change here in recent years however is that the credits for the arcade are digital now, and so are the tickets you win. The credits being on a card makes it easier to spend a lot of money without thinking about it, so be careful! It is nice because the machines used to eat a lot of coins and randomly not recognize them or give them back. However, they give you way less tickets and you will have to spend a lot of money and time here to get any reward at all with the tickets. Also they took out the drum machine game which I liked :( If you wanna play laser tag or air hockey, I'm pretty sure this is the only place in town. If the air hockey tables are taken, there are two more upstairs. The crane games here are as unfair as they are anywhere else, basketball/skeeball are fun, and the game where you hit a button with a hammer is confusing and I still don't understand it. read more

I've always enjoyed this mini golf spot. It's fun, cheap, and hard to pass up. The 18 holes are entertaining and have great theming. It's fun to find all the hidden surprises. While I enjoy this place, I would absolutely not recommend going during COVID if you value your safety at all. If I wasn't vaccinated, I would have probably caught COVID here. Mask policy wasn't enforced. Like at all. Tons of families with school aged kids not wearing masks. Adults not wearing their masks and not taking care to distance at all. The staff didn't say anything either. Sure, there are signs, but they're largely ignored. Crowds of people in the walkways and on holes with no masks. Do I recommend this place? Yes, of course. But go at your own risk and wait until the whole family is vaccinated. read more

Went here a few months back with my boyfriend during our trip to San Francisco and I got to say that this was one of the top themed mini golf courses that I have seen in good condition. I liked how this was indoors, so you didn't have the sun beating down on the course or weather to disrupt you as you play. You got to past by cool pirate scenes and characters along the way from what I saw and I think it was a fairly decent price to pay to play the course though we invested most of our money on the arcade games they had there, specifically the claw games. These claw games were unique since some of the plushes in the machines had keys that corresponded with a number on a locker that contained more prizes that you could potentially win. After spending quite a lot of money, we did end up getting a big bag of licensed plushes from one claw machine and two Funko Pops from the locker that I was interested in. Definitely would want to come back here again to try out the golf course and to spend wisely on the claw machines there hehe read more

Both of my kids love this place. It gets heavily packed but what do you expect? The Boardwalk is a prime location for tourists and for a current local like myself. Coming here brings back nostalgic memories. I remember my folks seldom had money to allow us to hit the arcade when we were here for the beach but whenever they gave us $5-$10 to play, my sister and I cherished it and would fight over who gets to play first. My son loves "playing" the race car games. Though he's too young to really play but it was uplifting to watch him, face filled w/ joy and enthusiasm; he'd turn the steering wheel violently from left to right then "shifted". My daughter likes to play games that spits out tickets. It is a total ripoff and the prizes all suck but when her face lights up from a good win, resulting in 15 or more tickets... it's priceless. The air hockey game. We're all over that! Two weekends ago I was there and scored a free game on the thing. Someone must have abandoned the game right after money was put in it. I propped my son on his stroller so he can reach the air hockey table and of course I let him win. He actually said, "I got it" after he stopped my puck. If you know where to park and where to get food (or bring your food and snacks) then it'd be a great adventure taking your kids here. read more

Neptune's rocks! I came here in December with my BFF. The place was so empty, we thought it was closed. So glad that we stopped in! We spent about 4 hours here and it was worth it! They have the most fun mini golf I've ever seen or played! It's two stories! 18 holes! Pirates! Glow in the dark section! Cannons that shoot out smoke rings! It was so much fun for my friend and I to play, and only $10 each! They have a small arcade here, and we had a good time. They had a deal going on that if you loaded your mandatory card needed to play with $20, you got an additional $20 free! Wow! We of course loaded up $20 and played every game we wanted and then spent a few hours there, no kidding! We played air hockey, pool, pingball, a massive new version of PacMan, Guitar Hero, several car racing games and some really old games we hadn't seen since the '80's. We also played this really fun car racing game called Dirty Drivin' that was alot of fun. It's on hydraulics and your seat moves and bumps around with the game. They had part of the arcade closed down since it was pretty slow. We saw some ancient games, talking about games from the '50's and earlier, maybe even the turn of the century. No idea if they worked at all or just for display. The parking lot across the street was going under construction and since it was night, it was pretty dark, even with the temporary construction lights. I wouldn't park over there at night unless you had a friend or two with you. read more

What can I say about this place that thousands of other people have said already. It's hard to find a fun, laid back place like this to play a game of pool or arcade games. I usually come here before work or on my rare day off. I've never had any trouble waiting for a table or any of the arcade games, nor have i seen it crowded but somehow it gets noisy. The prices are fair. I don't come here for the food or drinks so I can only speak about their gaming equipment which is in decent shape. The staff here is very friendly and service is great! Overall a very chill place, i'm fortunate that I live close by. Whenever i go here i make the most out of my time and play as many games as i can. I recommend coming to Neptunes kingdom if you like playing pool or a game enthusiast. Places like this are a dying breed. read more

I enjoy mini-golf here so much! We don't play every time we're in Santa Cruz, but when we do we have a blast. The pirate-themed decorations are wonderful and the course itself is pretty well maintained. There's a beautiful, giant wall mural too that's a great back-drop for photos. Overall, it's relatively inexpensive for a Boardwalk stop. There are also a ton of other arcade games around, so it's easy to hook up the kids with a bunch of money on their boardwalk cards and let them explore, or have some fun yourself beating your significant other over a cold beer in the adult area upstairs. My most recent visit was for a bachelorette party and we had a onesie-wearing, two-team scavenger hunt on the Boardwalk, which kicked off inside Neptune's Kingdom. That was a blast!!! read more

You can do laser tag or go on a thrill ride at the Beach Boardwalk for a few bucks, but those will be over in the blink of an eye. While Neptune's Kingdom has its share of arcade games, arguably its best offering is its pirate-themed mini golf course, a throwback to olden days when your hard-earned dollars (or doubloons, or whatever) bought you serious value. This mini golf course spans two stories, includes a glow in the dark section, and is decorated to the nines with pirate-themed props, animatronic pirates, and cannons that fire rings of mist (which is a pretty cool effect; no idea how they do it). On the last hole, if you get the ball through the tiny opening right in the middle, you get a free game. It's way harder than it looks. So come putt for an hour with your swashbucklin' friends, and tally up your final score and reference it with a chart at the last hole to see how well you did. If your score is 50 or more, you must walk the plank! read more

I'm not sure if Neptune's accounts for the arcade next door. Maybe? Anyway, they carry many vintage games - Sea Wolf, Tron, Frogger, Kung Fu Master, Battlezone, Space Duel to name a few - along with the more contemporary titles. I tried playing in the Gold Rush Shooting Gallery, but found the rifles shot either to the left or right, and I wasn't able to compensate easily to hit the target I wanted. HOWEVER, we did make the accidental discovery that taking flash pictures sets off ALL of the targets at the same time. The arcade games are pretty weak, but the mini golf is a lot of fun. Pirates yelling at you while you're putting, going in a glowing room for some of the holes, playing 18 holes for $5. What else can you ask for? If you get the hole-in-one in the 18th hole you get a free game. I think it's impossible because my ball hit it, right in the center, and didn't go in. The hole must be too small. However, since I got close, I got 3 free tokens. The problem is, you need 4 tokens to play must things, and the machine only allows you to change dollar bills, not quarters. So... it's BS. read more

I would give this place 5 stars, but the courses get SUUUUPER backed up, even on a slow day. Given that this isn't a game you should rush through, but some people take their sweet time to take their putt, and even when it's your turn, the people behind you can become clearly impatient. By far the BIGGEST and coolest golf course I have ever had the pleasure of playing on. It's pirate themed and there are sorts of cool Pirates of the Carribean-esque things going on around you. (Cannon's going off, seagulls cawing, etc.) Any kid would love this place. It turns Minigolf into a mini adventure! It takes a decent chunk of time to finish the course, too. It's pretty long. My friend and I took about 25 or 30 minutes to finish the whole course on a slow day. Although I can assure you it will take longer on crowded days. Games at the arcade are fun. They Air Hockey and pool which are my favorites, so that was all I played. This is a great place to kick it if you need a break from all the rides, and just want to chill inside for a bit and play some games and eat. read more

Minus 2 stars for changing the claw machine on my housemate and I! A couple weeks ago, my housie and I visited the Boardwalk to see the SF Giants World Series trophy and decided to stop by to play a couple of games. We are both addicts to claw machines so we decided to try our luck at the Pokemon crane game. To our surprise, with only $10 dollars, we got 7 Pokemon stuffed toys. I had so many in my arms that I felt like Ash Ketchum for a moment! ....We returned last night only to discover that they rebooted the claw and now it's weak as hell and can't pick anything up. Other than that, this is a fun place to go relive your childhood games. They have the classic Smoke 'em Tokens, Wheel of Fortune and new games like the Price is Right. Careful though, the floor is a bit sandy so I almost slipped. It also smells weird in there but I suppose it's cause the location is right next to the beach. Oh, and their prizes are staring to suck. They used to have softer and cuter quality stuffed toys. I'll miss this place when I graduate. read more

This is a good place to take kids (probably 6 and up) and family members for wholesome fun. Mini-golf was good but I'm not sure if I like the black lit room with the weird dry air that made me feel like I was developing a respiratory illness. Thankfully it's only for about 3 holes. It's kind of cool though, to see all the lint on your shirt and see how weird your fingernails look in that light. The pirate theme is definitely fun. The only down side is if there is a back up, you can't go skipping holes easily and come back like you can at Golfland. Air hockey and pinball was a blast. I've lived in Santa Cruz for almost two years now, and I'd always wandered past Neptune's Kingdom, and even almost stopped in to play a few times, but it just never seemed to happen. A couple of weekends ago, my best friend was in town. From Chicago. It's the middle of winter, so you'd think the weather here in SC would be at least -slightly- better. Well, the weather here sucked, and so we were forced to seek out indoor activities. Neptune's Kingdom to the rescue! First of all, I had a coupon for "buy-one-get-one", thanks to the trusty Mystical Coupon Book of Fate. Mini golf wound up costing us $10 for the three of us. The course was surprisingly fun. It doesn't look like much from the outward appearance, but some of the holes were quite daunting and challenging. I especially enjoyed the dark room holes, and animatronic pirates running all over the place. Now, this is nothing quite like Malibu Castle in Sherman Oaks, where you've got mechanical squadrons of booby-traps, distractions, and deflectors to keep you from that coveted hole-in-one. Even still, the course was fun, and was a great way to spend the evening. On the last hole, you even have a chance to win a free game. If you get close, they give you some free arcade tokens. Two of us should have nailed the hole-in-one on that, but somehow got screwed. We took our tokens and played some air hockey. Also of note: air hockey and pool tables upstairs, and a snack bar for those who need something to munch on. I took a picture of a huge tray of leftover nacho cheese. Disgusting. The air hockey tables were in slight disrepair, but still worked okay. read more

For the kind of place that this is, I found it to be mildly entertaining. I do enjoy that they have a pretty good variety of games, but as always its sort of overrun with kids and under maintained so everything is just a little bit dirty/sticky/unknown .... for the most part, I thoroughly enjoy coming here when I'm in the mood to be wacky and crazy, but otherwise you will not find this place to be extremely entertaining. I have to stress on the low maintenance part of this place because they really don't invest so much in their games to keep them working and in running order as I have also experienced the parts were tokens go in and do not get recognized and you cannot get a refund. Also, go in with the right expectations ... this place is what it is ... a slightly run-down but still fun Arcade with games from back in the days to elicit old memories! read more
