Lovely gem in the airport past security. I was really beginning to hate my life and regret not picking up Wendy's before I went through security when I happened upon this gem. I'm extremely glad I found this place as there doesn't appear to be much available food wise at the airport apart from fast food options like Starbucks. There is booster juice as well but let's be honest that's not a full sit down meal. . I was about to give you and go to Starbucks when I found this place. It's after security near C30 and in addition to all day breakfast serves surprisingly good sandwiches. I settled on the crispy sandwich which came topped with coleslaw and Russian dressing on a tasty and fresh brioche bun. It came served with fries and dripping in pickles and their juices (despite me requesting no pickles). The chicken was an extremely crispy and well seasoned and did its name justice. The fries were nothing to write home about and a bit greasy and room temperature unfortunately. The portion was also extremely tiny. Service was good with my server making suggestions that he thought were better value for money. My dish came in at $23 for example and there was a two piece southern fried chicken meal with veggies option available for $25 so he made this suggestion. I didn't waver though because I'm a huge fan of brioche and I was really happy with my sandwich choice. I almost ordered a second sandwich just for the brioche bun but I couldn't justify paying almost $50 for an average airport meal. This place is off near the c30+ gates and is a nice little oasis with tables set up in 2 and 4 toppers. You also have the option of sitting in the bar or grabbing something to go from the deli counter. I chose to sit and eat alone (as I'm traveling by myself) but this was in no way uncomfortable since I got to enjoy lovely views of planes pulling in and out of the gate out the large window on the far side of the restaurant. Delicious food in THE AIRPORT? I know, I can't believe it either. But this might be some of the best food served in YYZ that I've ever had (ok not counting the Maple Leaf lounge, but that's not really an affordable option). Though to be fair, I've never been to the OG Caplansky's. This could totally be a shadow of its original self, but having said that, it's a pretty tasty shadow. At 5AM in Terminal 3, your options are pretty limited so thank god it's Caplansky's that decided to fill in that early morning breakfast gap. If you're in the mood for a breakfast you can eat with a fork (not a sandwich, not a salad), you've really only got 2 choices: their classic breakfast and the hash. We got both of them and what can I say? They both exceeded my expectations exceptionally. The eggs, perfectly sunny. The potato latkes, super crispy. The beef bacon, might like this more than regular bacon with that special seasoning they got on it. The area mimicked an old school diner with plenty of seating. Though we were the first to grab a table, it filled up soon after. Service was quick and water was always filled. I gotta say I'm impressed. We all know airport food is usually meh at best. If there's one thing at the airport I hate doing, is buying food or drinks because they're generally marked up 1000%. Well, we were at the airport and totally forgot to bring out packed lunches for the flight and had no choice but to buy something for the flight or starve for lunch. So we caved and went with caplansky's turkey sandwich with fries. The turkey sandwich was actually really good. The meat was hot and fresh, the bread was soft but held up. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and adequate in portion. The fries were good fresh but once they started to cool down, not so good - but that's like most fries. Price: As per airport standards, through the roof at 19$ before tax. Not bad relatively speaking but as mentioned before, airport food is so overpriced. read more

Probably a city '3', but an airport '4'. We had a fairly early flight so I scoped out in advance what was available in terminal 3 as I haven't used it in ages. After looking at the menu, it was a done deal and the first place my family and I would head to after we passed security. It was a bit irritating that the online menu was old, so some items were gone and naturally prices went up. The place was jammed packed, so as unfortunate is at is for the owner to have to close his location in Toronto, if business is typically like this, he still found his way with this location. We managed to get some seats that were technically in the takeout area (which is good for people to know that there is a separate takeout counter). I got the corned beef hash - which I'd love anytime - but especially happy to have with a Jewish deli. My wife ordered am omelette, my daughter got a kids special with an egg, a latka, apple sauce, toast and beef bacon, and my son got grilled cheese with corned beef. I quite liked my corned beef hash - though it had clearly been plated a couple minutes before arriving at the table. My kids both enjoyed theirs. I found the price for my daughter's to be a bit steep, but the grilled cheese with the added corned beef for my son was good value since they really piled on the meat. That meant some for me! My wife's omelette was extremely poor. Missing an ingredient that was on the online menu, but even lacking it quantity what it was supposed to have. It was basically fried egg with a few bell pepper pieces if remember correctly but charged at a price as though it were a stacked omelette. Again, if I was served the same thing at the same price in the city, I wouldn't necessarily have it stand out in my mind. By as for an airport goes, I quite enjoyed mine (my wife can't say the same) and better than most other breakfast experiences I've had elsewhere. read more

We stopped by here when we were flying out of Pearson terminal 3 and it was ok. The Service: The service was really slow. It took 30 minutes to get our food and it was really difficult to get our waitresses attention to ask for tea, coffee and our bill. It also took her over ten minutes to come to our table to take our order. In an environment where everyone is trying to catch a flight service should be faster. THE FOOD: The food was ok. I ordered the omelette and my boyfriend ordered the bagel with cream cheese and lox. Bagel with lox and cream cheese: My boyfriend said the bagel with lox and cream cheese was good but it wasn't filling enough for brunch. The Omelette: The omelette was good but since I'm gluten and lactose intolerant, it was pretty bland. They wouldn't offer me a substitute for no cheese. I found this cheap on their end. The omelette came with toast, apple sauce and latkes. The toast was served with butter when it should have been brought plain due to my lactose intolerance, which I told the waitress about. I tried to get her attention so she could bring me new bread but my attempt to flag her down was completely hopeless. She didn't look at me once. The latkes were over fried, burnt and way too oily. They were actually pretty disgusting. I didn't finish eating these and the apple sauce was ok. The waitress didn't give me a spoon so after trying to flag her down for 10 minutes I went to the takeout part of the restaurant to get a takeout spoon. Would I Return? I wanted to ask about the Gluten Free options... our server was helpful, but needed to check with the manager, who informed us that there was no gluten free. Admittedly, before last week, I had never eaten anything from any location of this famed Toronto Delicatessen. I have my spots for authentic deli cuisine and was all set. After being disappointed with my smoked meat sandwich at their departure location in Terminal 1 when my flight was cancelled I was a little hesitant when our dinner options were limited to Tim Hortons and the full 'sit-down' Caplansky's in T3 of Pearson. I've always said that I'm about second chances and for the most part that's true (save for a few abominations that shall remain nameless), but I gotta tell you, in this instance I'm glad I was forced to give CD's another whirl. Having some time to kill before our flight we decided to get some food and drink and I agonized about what to have knowing I didn't want another smoked meat sandwich. I noticed a small "YGEH" next to a few menu items and asked what the 'buzz wuz' on these. Our server informed me that those items were the ones featured on "You Gotta Eat Here". Well then - that's a different story! After looking over my options I handily went with the homemade meat loaf option paired with mash and veggies. Good old fashioned comfort food that sticks to your ribs and makes you sleepy for a flight. The veggies were nothing special, just a steamed assortment it seemed, similar to what my fiancee received in her veggie sandwich - not exactly original. The mashed taters were light and nicely whipped but spuds all the same. The meatloaf was the real winner here IMO. Soft and moist, not even a little bit dry, meaty (obviously), well seasoned, and a MASSIVE portion, I was stuffed by the end, and nicely topped with a sweet tomato sauce - definitely NOT ketchup! The epitome of airport price gouging, Caplansky's offers a limited, but interesting menu. I had the smoked meat hash for $14. Four small pieces of toast, two cubes of cantaloupe, four slices of mandarin oranges, two eggs and a salty mishmash of smoked meat and potatoes later, I'm left thirsty and unsatisfied, but not surprised. To start off with the good, the eggs (over easy) were cooked perfectly. The toast was also nicely toasted and buttered. The smoked meat hash was very salty, which really took away from its taste - salt isn't supposed to be a flavour! The quantity was adequate. The non-alcoholic drinks are very pricey. $5 for water and $4 for soft drinks is what you can expect there. Do yourself a favour and go to the Starbucks to the right of the restaurant if you want to spend that much money on a drink. The service was unmemorable. I asked for hot sauce once I got my food and I was given an unopened bottle of Tabasco. The cashier just stood and watched me while I had to tear the plastic wrap off the bottle's lid. I much prefer the Molson Pub in Terminal 1, which offers a similar breakfast dish with a lot less salt, crispy potatoes on the side and jam for the toast. The price is also a few dollars cheaper. My partner really wanted to try Caplansky's Deli so on a trip and layover on Toronto Pearson Airport we had a chance to visit one of their locations. It is a big restaurant with a very deli style feel to it of course. Lots of tables and you can watch them prepare your food, and you have great views of the runway too. My celiac partner check with the kitchen and all they had available for her were eggs and beef bacon. She was hoping for moire choices so she was a bit disappointed there. I was just sharing some of her food as I wasn't all that hungry yet and breakfast isn't much my thing unless it's fruit or a smoothie. Great place. Lots of great food choices. Also tried the matzo ball soup and borscht, go with the borscht not your typical Russian or Ukrainian style but pretty good. Also tried the Rubenesque Rueben sandwich and it was good. Before boarding your next flight be sure to try a pint of their house tap which comes with a pickle on it. Not a lot to add to what others said about pricing or food, it is in an airport after all. We had a short layover at the airport and Caplansky's was next to our gate. The smell of it as we walked by was enough to get our attention and get us in the door. There is a seating area and a takeaway/ordering area, but I think both sections are still self serve. You order your sandwich and pay, then are given a number which is called out when your order is ready. We chose to split a turkey sandwich, the meat on these babies is generous and splitting it was probably the smart way to go to avoid subsequent meatmares on the last leg of our journey. After ordering, the waiting area for orders is a bit chaotic and there seemed to be some confusion to customers as to where to find their order numbers on their receipts or some not even having their receipt anymore. Pro tip: keep your receipt until you have your food. All in all, the food came out fast, it was a generous portion and the bread was toasted just right - not to much to cut up your mouth. I feel like I've been lied to with the Caplansky's name attached to this 'restaurant' in Terminal 3. I arrived way too early for a 7 am flight and after dealing with security, I was desperate for food and coffee. I wasn't as familiar with T3 as most the time I fly out of T1. The name Caplansky's is the first restaurant in the hallway as I walk towards my gate and I figure it couldn't be that far off from the real deal. WRONG. I'm not even sure how to describe adequately my experience without being very negative. If the food was remotely close to the Toronto restaurant, I'd be willing to overlook the service blunders but I just... can't. We ordered a simple egg breakfast. The first issue was the wait staff wouldn't look anyone in the eye or acknowledge the order. We had no clue if he heard us at all. The 2nd issue was that the person at the cashier had a lot of problems with the till and basic math. I'm not sure if he was missing a coffee to jump start the thinking process but it was so painful to correct him that I didn't get the right change to make $5. He insisted that 1 toonie and 2 loonie is $5. The food was just as bad as my memories of liquid eggs in high school breakfast. It was rubbery and tasteless... it also cost me the same amount as 2 breakfasts at a Tim Hortens. Next time I'm in T3, I'm just heading 5 minutes further towards the end of the hallway where they have the new restaurants opened up.
