We didn't need it, but it was a nice gesture. There is a beach like area along the trail and I enjoy stopping in this section and looking for seashells. If you're not into hiking or biking, this still seems like a nice park to sit and enjoy the day for a few hours. Pack a picnic lunch and go!

This park was built to honor the soldiers of the American Revolution. The park was part of the original Fort Constitution of the Continental Army under the leadership of General George Washington. Over 2,600 troops were stationed in and around the Monument Park area in 1776. Fort Lee in itself is a beautiful town with other parks beneath and alongside the George Washington Bridge. This lovely park is a true gem. I still manage to go as I have my own beautiful memories while living near.

Along the riverfront it's paved and there is an amphitheater-style seating area, where you can sit and gaze at the Manhattan (and Jersey City) skyline. The park's path connects directly to the 18.5 mile long Hudson River Waterfront Walkway that runs from the Bayonne Bridge to the George Washington Bridge. The parking lot is small and there is not much other public parking within walking distance, so finding a spot on a nice day can be difficult.

These include Community Centers, Field Houses, and Nature Centers and offer services such as indoor pools, weight rooms, basketball courts, dance studios, boxing rings, art studios, game rooms and libraries. 59 West is a medium-sized facility that has one fitness room, a gym/basketball court, a climbing wall and a pool. The place is clean, though not new and shiny. The fitness room is kind of small, but has a decent number of machines. 3 cycles, 2 treadmills, 3 step machines, and about 4 or 5 weight machines. They also have a pretty wide selection of freeweights. My only complaint about the exercise room is the lack of stretching area. I usually exercise in the early afternoon, so there aren't many people around. I don't know what it's like in the evenings or on weekends. The best thing is the price. $50/year for most centers, $75/year for ones with a pool. If you get a membership to one, you can visit ANY rec center in the system in any of the 5 boroughs. If you're looking for a place to work out and have basic needs, then a City Gym is a good choice. There are several in the city, so do some investigating to see if this or the center near you is a place you'd spend time.

We originally planned to reopen Rec Center 59 in the Spring of this year; however, due to funding matters and several necessary scope additions for the existing building, we now anticipate reopening the center in Fall 2011. The construction sign outside of the recreation center will be updated to reflect the change in schedule shortly. Some of these new features will include an indoor state-of-the-art pool; new electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; a new First Aid room; improvements to the gymnasium and a new cardio room. A new addition to the building, with three levels, is also being constructed. Men's and women's locker rooms, a family changing room, and lifeguards' locker rooms will be on the lower level. A youth activities room, computer room, multi-purpose room, and bathrooms will be on the ground floor, and aerobics and fitness rooms will be on the second floor. All three floors will be accessible via an elevator and staircases. We have added the necessary installation of new windows, replacement of two skylights, a new roof, and installation of a chimney liner to the scope of work for this important project. We apologize for any inconvenience the delay in reopening the recreation center may cause, but are confident that park goers will be pleased with the end result. We appreciate your continued patience while we improve your park.

Tennis courts of any kind are a rarity in this urban jungle we call New York City. But these courts…read moreboast four magic letters "F-R-E-E", which make these three courts quite popular in a sport where courttime can cost upwards of $60/hour. The main drawback of the Hudson River Park Tennis Courts is the one hour time limit. Personally, I need a good couple of hours of playtime to feel like I got a good hit in. Plus, I am not the biggest fan of the shade of blue worn by the court, not to mention the cracks that have formed since the courts were last resurfaced. As a result, I do not frequent these courts. That said, this is probably as scenic a court as you can find (maybe outside the secret court tucked into Grand Central Terminal). The hours also run from early morning to 1 am the next day, so outside of busy hours, it may be possible to play past the hour mark. Who knows, you might even get some spectators taking a break from jogging or walking their dog.

Lovely park right off main street…read more There is no parking lot but lots of metered street parking in the immediate area. The park has a large field with a baseball diamond there. There is a paved path around the perimeter of the park. There is an exercise area as well as a sizeable playground, focused on children 5-12 years old. Along the main path, there are also some less intensive exercise stations...they even have wheelchair accessible options. The park is very well-maintained and safe.
