But this visit was prompted by the promotion of The Big 3....DJ Jon Quick was AH MAZING!! Needless to say the vibes were all there. I did make a reservation as to to avoid standing around hungry. What I did love is that there is no time limit to sitting/eating/drinking. I was there for about 2hrs. Now, the food is mid. But let me tell you....so apparently they cooked the food outside and this day is was hella windy so when they brought me my food it was cold. The fish, rice and peas, and plantain. Yuck!! Cold escovitch fish bites. So I sent it back cause, no. So they gave me fresh fish but kept the cold rice and peas and plantain. Sigh. I also ordered the pitcher of piña colada. Went to The Armory in NYC for Nike Nationals and overall the experience was amazing. Watching these…read moreyoung athletes compete at such a high level was really impressive. One of the best parts of the event was how they introduced the elite runners. They turned the lights off in the arena, announced each athlete individually, and they ran out onto the track with sparks shooting up. That whole presentation was fire and really made the moment feel special for the athletes and the crowd. The atmosphere was great and you could feel the excitement in the building. My only complaint is about some of the staff (not all). I had been sitting in a section for over four hours after being told by one worker that it was fine to sit there. Later on, a few other workers came over and told me I had to move. It wasn't even the request that bothered me--it was the way it was delivered. When you're dealing with adults, especially paying guests who've been there for hours, it's all about how you communicate. At one point it felt like they were all teaming up like Voltron instead of just getting a supervisor to clear things up. Situations like that can easily be avoided with better customer service and communication. Needless to say I didn't go anywhere until my daughter ran off the principal. Aside from that situation, the event itself was great. The competition, the energy in the building, and the way they highlight the elite athletes made it a really memorable experience.

The warmup area is way too small, so from the athlete's perspective, that made it very hard to prepare for the race. I ended up running laps outside with my athlete to get her warmed up, which many others were doing, so even that was hard. I get space is limited in NYC, but with 3 floors, they could have done a better job providing space for the athletes to prepare for their race. My runner lived the track itself, it was a great track.

4/24/26: The Met Cloisters is a must see when in NYC!…read more It's been ages since my last visit. The Cloisters overlooks the Hudson River. It officially opened in 1938. The museum is dedicated to medieval art and architecture. The Cloisters itself is a stunning building. Our first Tour Guide took us around the wonderful medieval statues and gardens. She explained thoroughly about all the herbs and plants that are culinary and for their medicinal purposes. Our second tour guide Valerie was excellent for the "Highlights of the Met Cloisters. A major museum highlight is the Unicorn Tapestry Room (Permanent Display). These 7 tapestries were created approximately 500 years ago. (The Narrative: The Unicorn series tells a story ranging from the hunt's start and the unicorn at a fountain to its defense, capture, and, finally, the famous "Unicorn in Captivity" image). The museum does have a café (The Trie Cafe) on the premises. It's very good for a quick bite along with garden view seating. Museum times as follows: Sunday through Tuesday 10 AM - 5 PM Wednesday- Closed Thursday-Saturday 10 AM- 5 AM. It's best to arrive at the Cloisters upon opening. During the first tour, it wasn't too crowded, but the second tour was extremely crowded. The Met Cloisters is located at 99 Margaret Corbin Drive Fort Tryon Park, New York City, NY 10040. Highly recommend visiting the stunning Met Cloisters.

The Cloisters is a museum in Fort Tryon Park, governed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It specializes in European medieval art and architecture, and its buildings are centered around four cloisters --the Cuxa, Saint-Guilhem, Bonnefont, and Trie-sur-Baïse. The museum was designed to evoke medieval European monastic life, making it a very special place. It houses about 5,000 works of European art and architecture (doors, arches, columns) mostly dating from the 12th through 15th centuries. Perhaps its most famous works are the Unicorn Tapestries. When I visited this past weekend, it was quite crowded. And it's easy to see why. The museum is gorgeous and peaceful. Plenty of people were reading or journaling or relaxing in the sunlight in the Trie Cloister (I found a little nook and read my book for a bit as well). Many more were relaxing in the Bonnefont Cloister. Inside the museum was crowded as well - lots of people were enjoying a spring day at the Cloisters. I distinctly remember the last time I was at the Cloisters, and it was a cool, foggy day. I think I almost prefer the Cloisters then - it's less crowded and you really feel like you could be walking around a medieval monastery where the cloisters are under a blanket of fog or if it's drizzling. Whatever the weather, the Cloisters is a unique museum. A ticket to the Met gets you into the Cloisters on the same day as well (and vice versa), so you can make a full day of the Met art by spending time at both. It's accessible by subway (A to 190th St or 1 to Dyckman Street), so don't miss this special place in NYC.

There are folding chairs and makeshift seats all around. It can be crowded. Get there early for a good seat. The show is supposed to start around 3:30, but we got there at 2:45 and several people were waiting. In the summer it can be sweltering, so dress appropriately. There is no dress code. She and Rudel play jazz on the piano, what she calls "African American classical music." They often have an accompanying cellist or other musician. Sometimes a poet. The sessions are free of charge, but please contribute to the tip jar or their Venmo! The apartment is full of Miss Marjorie's memories. Poignant, joyous, and a little sad. They serve little snacks and water and sometimes juice. The music really is wonderful, but Miss Marjorie and Rudel are the most genuine, kind, talented people, and they are amazing for sharing themselves and their home with us. This is my New York.

It's always well kept, everything always feels calm and peaceful in there, a little oasis in the city.

I had seen a show recently in which paranormal investigators heard the footsteps of someone who said that he was Aaron Burr. We did not see or hear any ghosts, alas. But the very nice guide did say that she and other people who worked in the mansion had all experienced the presence of ...something. The rooms are lovely, beautifully furnished with period pieces. The octagon room is stunning, and the details of the restorations by Traci Telasco are interesting. Oddly, there weren't any wardrobes/armoires, or closets, that I could see. Aaron Burr and William both had large beds, while Eliza Jumel had a lit de repos--quite narrow, with a swan tester. The kitchen was disappointing. Just a giant fireplace with an oven, a huge kettle and other old pots, and a candle mold on the mantel. There was also an old table and benches, presumably for the servants to have their meals. The butler's pantry was not on the tour, because it is now a restroom. I don't know exactly what we expected, but a kitchen from Pompeii was far more impressive. It seems difficult to understand how the elaborate meals of the era could be produced with just a fireplace and an oven, although apparently the long-handled pans were held over the fire. It was a fun trip to the Heights on the M5 bus. I would go back in the Spring to see the Glade. And Sylvan Terrace was lovely!

Local gem and creative events…read more Visited with some family going to see some of the local history. Staff were super welcoming and I was blown away by the photos of the Inwood/Washington Heights before the subway was introduced uptown. The vast swath of farm land and this farmhouse is one place to see how it looks in that bucolic time period. The backyard had a hessian hut of what the military groups used during the historical time period. It is fascinating to think about so much history that took place across the last four centuries in Manhattan and previous to the European arrivals. Thank you for having a local spot for people to learn about history. Great value.

The Farmhouse was closed but it was still worth visiting and mulling over how they farmed on all that rocky terrain.
