Went to The Armory in NYC for Nike Nationals and overall the experience was amazing. Watching these young athletes compete at such a high level was really impressive. One of the best parts of the event was how they introduced the elite runners. They turned the lights off in the arena, announced each athlete individually, and they ran out onto the track with sparks shooting up. That whole presentation was fire and really made the moment feel special for the athletes and the crowd. The atmosphere was great and you could feel the excitement in the building. My only complaint is about some of the staff (not all). I had been sitting in a section for over four hours after being told by one worker that it was fine to sit there. Later on, a few other workers came over and told me I had to move. It wasn't even the request that bothered me--it was the way it was delivered. When you're dealing with adults, especially paying guests who've been there for hours, it's all about how you communicate. At one point it felt like they were all teaming up like Voltron instead of just getting a supervisor to clear things up. Situations like that can easily be avoided with better customer service and communication. Needless to say I didn't go anywhere until my daughter ran off the principal. Aside from that situation, the event itself was great. The competition, the energy in the building, and the way they highlight the elite athletes made it a really memorable experience. read more

Attended Nike Indoor Nationals, and the track and viewing experience from our purchased seats was great! The warmup area is way too small, so from the athlete's perspective, that made it very hard to prepare for the race. I ended up running laps outside with my athlete to get her warmed up, which many others were doing, so even that was hard. I get space is limited in NYC, but with 3 floors, they could have done a better job providing space for the athletes to prepare for their race. My runner lived the track itself, it was a great track. read more

I've been fortunate to have been invited to watch the indoor nationals, as well as get a tour of the history of the armory and the fantastic athletes that have once competed there, as been able to complete a indoor track workout alone here. The armory holds great history of all athletes both young and older. There are sections at the armory that give you full details on one of the first to ever run a marathon and the shoes they once wore. For some reason I had to walk down 4 flights of stairs just to get to the men's restroom would give it zero stars if I could.

We came here for a Columbia graduation ceremony 2 years into COVID. For an in door gathering of hundreds of people during a pandemic, it was very well done. The space is very large with extremely high ceilings. We never felt like we were packed in. The downside of all that space for air to circulate is that the acoustics were pretty terrible. BUT they made up for it with a large video screen and closed captions!! Great move. read more

Terrific facility if you are a runner, or if you just enjoy watching track and field events. The indoor track is wonderful, as is the history here when you walk around to view the plaques on the walls, and glass encased running memorabilia. I had a chance to explore The Armory when I was here for the NYRR Washington Heights 5K this year. You can tell it's well maintained and taken care of. When we get past this pandemic and events start up again it will be worth it to sit in the bleacher seating to take in some running events. read more

The history here is unreal -- tour the records in the stairwells, check out the Track & Field Hall of Fame, and gander at the trophy case on the main floor. Pretty much any track athlete you've ever heard of has a connection to this building. This is a place of champions. The Armory is also one of the few indoor tracks in the country with elevated turns. That makes the track really, really fast for a 200m oval. That only reinforces The Armory as a desirable venue for extraordinary athletes -- and reinforces its allure. Some people complain that youth practices are too crowded. So I would counter, how would you feel if you could watch your kid taking batting practice at Yankee Stadium regularly ... but it would be a WEE bit popular? I think the answer is, YES please! The Armory is to track what Yankee Stadium is to baseball. It's a cathedral for the sport. If you love running, you MUST visit. This was a great venue to watch the annual Milrose games. We had a blast at race level attending on V.I.P. tickets. We enjoyed front row seats and delicious food, immediately trackside. Our friends in the balcony didn't enjoy as great a view, but it wasn't too bad. It's an older space, of course, and can be hard to navigate at times, especially with athletes running, jumping, and stretching in every open space. So just wear sturdy shoes and be prepared to walk a bit. We bought our tickets online and it was hard to estimate which seats are ideal, as we'd never been to the space before. read more

The locker rooms and rest rooms are clean and brightly lit. The children love the time they spend here. There are many events for the community and families in the neighborhood. Exciting and well maintained indoor track facility. Entrance fee every time we go, but it is worth it for the excellent facility. Location is easy to reach and parking is available at the hospital if you can't get it on the street but it can be expensive if you leave the car for a few hours. The subway is another route which is convenient but check for weekend track work and schedules. The food at the Armory is good but a little expensive. Rest rooms are clean. Seating can be difficult with the runners reserving seats for their entire team, but we always find a good spot. Treat yourself to a walk along riverside drive before heading home. A lovely walk along the Hudson with a spectacular view of the George Washington Bridge. read more

You've never seen more fit, healthy and FAST runners! A golden place for the metro areas runners, both high school and the pros, to show their stuff. Have loved watching my kids run here over the years. Need a break? Go walk the GW Bridge or visit the Cloisters just down the road. Not a bad seat here, and a small cafe if you get hungry. read more

Nearly two years ago, I took (and passed) the NY Bar exam at The Armory. Not to sound cheesy, but seeing all of those trophies and pictures of runners on the wall gave me inspiration before I walked into the massive indoor track and handled my business on the bar. The Armory can be reached by the A,C, and 1 train. It's also close to the George Washington Bridge. I'm sure many of the runners can run faster than the traffic on the bridge. read more

As a high school student who participated on the track team I would travel from Brooklyn to this armory to run races . Due to the fact that there is no armory dedicated to track and field in Brooklyn , this is where all the winter events are held. As for the inside of the Armory , it is beautifully crafted and well taken cafe of . The interior is well taken care of and the staff is accommodating and kind . I've visited the Armory several times to see my nephew run in his track meets. As a track & field venue, the Armory is wonderful. While there, one can see several events taking place at once, such as hurdles, longer runs, and pole vaulting. The seats are set up so one can usually get a very good view of the arena. Kudos to New Balance (the area is also known as the New Balance Track and Field Center) for investing in this space. The concession stands are generally pretty good in terms of food quality and selection, nothing super fancy though. The prices may be a bit on the more expensive side, but are way, way cheaper than in other sports venues (e.g. Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium and Citi Field). It costs $10 to get in, which isn't bad for NYC. Considering how well-maintained the space is, the money is well spent. Also, they are not cheap with the heat. In fact, the place felt like a sauna when I've been there. Considering that it was pretty cold outside, I wasn't complaining. The Armory is a short walk from the 168th St. & Broadway Subway station. Several bus lines also pass by the area, so it is convenient to public transportation. If you plan to drive, it is relatively easy to get to the Armory via the Henry Hudson Parkway. Street parking, however, is at a premium. If you are willing to pay, there is plenty of parking at the Columbia Presbyterian parking garages. read more

I wasn't here to run, but honestly, I wished that was the case. I was really salivating when I saw the track, and then when I had a chance to walk on it, I was so in love. Softness was under my feet and I could think about was how my knees would really love the extra padding when I run... I was here for a graduation event and it is interesting how a track and field can turn into a graduation event. We were seated on the main area and our families and friends were in the seating area one floor up. The acoustics are terrible in here, and it was really hard to decipher what people were saying. Never mind that the former president of Chile was speaking, because I couldn't understand much. After the graduation, there was a reception right on the floor of the track. The catering was well done, but not enough vegetarian options. But I am not going to complain about a FREE event. I am now very curious about running here. This is a beautiful indoor track and field space. It seemed well maintained and like it would be a great space to compete at with a track with raised edges and spaces for each field event. I was there for a high school graduation. The sound system was not the best for presentations as is true for most sports facilities. Though it was a hot day it was very comfortable inside. It was great for every family to be able to see their graduate on the big screen and on the stage because of the raised seating. read more

The Armory really brings amazing track and field competition to NYC and is known for being one of the "fastest tracks in the world." For that, you will pay a premium of $20 to watch elite, collegiate, high school, etc. athletes and potentially see records fall! To work out here, you can pay $15 a session of $300 a "season," which runs late November until mid April, minus a few days that are reserved for other meets. There are four glorious thursday nights in which anyone can pay $15 and enter one, some, or all of the three races that are held at New York Road Runner's Thursday Night at the Races. Or you can come watch anyone from college runners getting in a fast time to a 40-year old running a 7 minute mile in a cotton v-neck, cargo shorts, and converse. Yes, it's a great facility with a world-class events. However, the after-school practice times are absurd. 300+ kids all running various speeds on a 200m track. Recipe for disaster with collisions and injuries occurring on a weekly basis. Then the (uneducated) staff yells at you that your team wasn't following the protocol. How do you follow protocol in the middle of chaos? Get a clue, people. read more

The Armory is a gorgeous facility with a super fast track and a track and field "hall of fame" set up in the hallways. As reviewers have mentioned, you can pay to practice here for a season (their schedule of when it's open for use is on armorytrack.com). Those 4 Thursday night meets hosted by New York Road Runners in January/February are a blast! For $20, you can run a bunch of events (varying from 800m, 1500m, mile, 1600m, 3000m, 3200m, 2 mile, 5000m, 4x400m, 4x800m, 10,000m 10 person relay, 10x200m relay, and so on...). There are some really speedy people there (former Olympians!) and also random old guys wearing no shoes and khaki shorts. Such a blast! read more

Easily the best indoor track facility I've been to. Granted, most of the indoor tracks I've been to are down in the south and newer, but this one is laid out great for spectators and coaches (me). My only problem, is that the walkways on the top are ridiculously narrow, which makes it hard for people to move around at times and causes log jams. The fact that the building is really old, but newly renovated, I can look past that. I was here for the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, which is THE largest indoor track meet of the year, with over 120 colleges. I thought the throwing events were run very well and smoothly, even with sometimes over 70 entries per event. There's a ton of track and field history here, it's basically the Mecca of indoor track. If those walls could talk, the stories they could tell. read more

The city is lucky to have the Armory. We've held the AMS Pi5NY math tournament at the Armory for the past two years. Over 1,000 middle-school students, 150 volunteers and 500+ parents and spectators convene at the Armory for this fast-paced, team competition. An added bonus is that the Armory is centrally located so that students from all 5 boroughs can reach it by subway transportation. The staff is very professional and easy to work with and go above the call of duty in helping to make our event a huge success. We look forward to returning to the Armory next year and, hopefully, for many more years to come. read more

No stars!!! Had to give it one star to submit the review! Worst place ever!!! Was randomly assigned to take a 6 hour test at the Armory and there was NO AIR-CONDITIONING!! In the middle of July!! In 85 degree temperatures with 75% humidity!! I felt sweaty, nauseous and sick all day!! Totally unfair given the fact that other test-takers were assigned to hotel locations throughout New York City that had optimum air-conditioning!! Will be making a formal complaint to the testing board! read more
