I'd absolutely stay here again but I may go to the Town place Suites for breakfast.

The weird part is they were put back nicely in the corner so maybe the cleaning people did not report that they were off of the wall and just left them that way. Then, the shower did not drain at all. I checked the drain, it was open, so it must have been clogged. They need a room-by-room punch list of items in this hotel for sure. There's no sketchy people around, ie the noisemakers. The check in lady is so welcoming and sweet. Our room is immaculate, modern and pretty. The TV is huge. The room is well designed so that the furniture isn't all cramped and awkward. They have some boutique type little bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The towels are thick and textured. There is a coffee maker in the room, thank goodness. Not all hotels today are doing that. Another huge thing is that they are providing a lovely home cooked free breakfast. They're packing it up for you but the dining area is large and very nice. Hopefully people will be able to dine in there someday when Mr COVID finally hits the road. You should try this place.

When we first checked in, the room had a slight odor, but we tried to overlook it. However, once we got into bed, we realized the sheets and comforter had a strong, unpleasant smell. I contacted the front desk, and they provided clean linens, which I appreciated. After changing the bedding ourselves, the smell was still very noticeable. Upon further inspection, it became clear that the odor was coming from the mattress itself, which smelled strongly of urine. At that point, it was late, and we had no real option but to sleep on the pull-out sofa for the night. The next day, we were moved to a different room and were told the original room had to be taken out of service because of the issue. While I'm glad it was addressed, it was concerning that this was not caught by housekeeping beforehand. I requested to speak with a manager about the situation and was told I would receive a call on Monday. Unfortunately, I never received any follow-up. Overall, this was not a good experience, especially considering the cost of the stay. The lack of quality control and follow-up from management was disappointing. I hope the hotel takes steps to improve housekeeping inspections and customer service moving forward.

Left for our event-came back in the evening between events...Then was told that maintenance wouldn't be working Friday after all & that while people have checked out housekeeping wasn't working so they couldn't move our rooms! Asked for a discount due to no AC all weekend & kid at front desk said he couldn't make that decision! When asked for him to contact manger he gave the business card and made no efforts! Paid over $200 a night for a room with no AC, and they ran out of about all breakfast items Sunday morning!

We arrived pretty late in the evening, but were able to check in and head up to the room without any problems. There's parking all along the outside of the hotel. Super 8 isn't as fancy as Holiday Inn, but it gets the job down and feels pretty secure and safe. There are stairs inside that lead to the rooms. For the room: -Clean and spacious -Bedsheets are a bit old-fashion -Lighting is quite yellow -Microwave and mini fridge inside the room -Lots of outlets to allow for charging of devices -Wi-Fi was pretty fast as well -Bed was on the stiffer side, but pillows had good fluffiness to them -AC/heater worked well Bathroom: -Bathroom definitely showed wear and tear; could see cracks on the hardwood floor -Toilet and sink area were clean -Towels were soft enough and clean -Some cracks in the tub area, but shower area was clean As for the breakfast - they serve continental breakfast every morning. I thought the assortment was pretty decent! They have bread and pastries, cereal, and fruit. I was most impressed by the waffle machine - fluffy waffles that weren't too sweet. I also thought the coffee had good flavor and kept us awake while we went back to campus for presentations. I did get to check out my friend's room at the Holiday Inn, and if prices are pretty similar - I'd go with Holiday Inn; however, Super 8 is not bad at all and if you're needing a decent room for a good night's rest, I'd definitely recommend it. The workers that helped us were friendly and nice - and they had Starbursts at the front desk! Good stay for several nights in Portales.
