The office closed at 5 every day, and the staff members there didn't seem enthused about answering my questions when I went in. The store is very sparsely stocked. No hygiene items; just fishing supplies, ice cream & drinks, and a couple of power adapters and the like. The pool was great!

We arrived around 5:30pm and spent until about 7pm exploring all the walking paths. There is something here for everyone. There is a huge playground for little ones, there are paths for walkers/runners/dog walkers, and there were even a bunch of people fishing in the lakes. I love how child-friendly this park is. It felt like most of the bridges, benches, and other fun structures were made by girl or boy scouts. There is a huge parking lot so it's easy to drive to this spot. They also have very clean restrooms. We didn't go in to the nature center, but that was pretty too. I liked that this park had a lot to explore. The water was low enough at one section for us to go to a little island in the middle of one lake. While not all the trees have their leaves yet, I image this is even prettier when everything is in bloom. It was a very serene and lovely place to explore.

This place has plenty of parking, lots of playground equipment, and (as the name suggests) three small lakes to walk around. It's worth noting that the main lake (closes to the park entrance) is where fishing is permitted and has the newest/nicest path as well. The middle lake is enjoyable though is a bit rougher. The far lake was damaged in storms in the past so some of it is pretty rough but still enjoyable to explore. I make sure to hit all three lakes every visit, though if you want a nice clean experience, stick to the main lake. The nature center is nice but fair warning: it's pretty small and won't take more than 10-15 minutes to enjoy in its entirety. Still, the staff member there tends to be nice and there are a few small animals in the little displays there. If you want a fun place to walk (especially if you have kids who like playground equipment), this is a great spot to do it. Overall: 5.0 stars ---- Pros: - Beautiful walking spot. - Pleasant staff. - Lots of free parking. - Fun (if small) nature center. - Plenty of playground equipment for kids. This park offers a stunning trail that courses along the Appomattox River. The trail serves as the Northern trailhead for the river trail system and is absolutely gorgeous. The walk is mostly shaded by trees and features great scenery of the water. We spotted a variety of creatures which made the walk a bit more fun. The entire trail is paved and is wheelchair accessible making it a great option for anyone who wants to check it out. Despite the gorgeous scenery this trail offers it has limited visibility due to the curves and foliage that is present. At some points during it you may not be able to see who is around the corner or behind you on the trail, if that is important to you, you may want to check out the trail with a trail buddy rather than going alone. Overall, this is a lovely spot if you're looking for a paved trail that offers some scenic views. This park also offers fishing spots and you can bike, run or walk the trail making it a great option for a variety of activities.

We decided to take the scanoe (yes, a scanoe, not a canoe. it's a canoe with a square back) out last weekend and the bf's destination of choice was Deep Bottom Park. It's not the most scenic place in the world, but it fulfilled its purpose for us. There were a few picnic tables, but I'd really only go back to use the boat ramp again. The bathrooms are really nice, though. I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness- clearly someone's on top of the upkeep and it shows. A number of other boats were out on the water while we were there, along with at least one jetskier. We also saw a few people fishing off of the docks, so it seems like this boat launch is probably a fairly popular spot. If you're looking for a place semi-close to downtown, with relatively calm water and a decent boat launch, this park is worth a shot.

On your right, the scenic Appomattox River provides a lovely view of the water. We got to rent the smaller boat this time and cruise up and down the Chickahominy River. The owners could not be nicer, they even let my partner borrow their kids fishing pole for the day! At low tide you can even bring lawn chairs down the stairs to the river and use the makeshift beach to relax.

If (like me) you are in search of a peaceful getaway with soft surfaces that are easy to navigate then this is a great option. While yes- the park backs up to a coal-powered electrical plant (the largest in the Dominion system) after the first mile or so on the trail you don't see it. Most of the 4 Mile trail offers views out to the tidal lagoon or James River. There are some trail spurs that also offer observation decks out to the water. Parking is shared with the Henricus Historcial Park as are indoor restrooms, which were clean and spacious. About 10 min off I-95 for those traveling through- it's worth the stop to break up a trip.
