Some of the courts and fields have lighting available and some of the softball fields can be reserved. I enjoyed the walking track today, some of which is natural and some of which is paved. A great walk through some trees and shade. There's apparently 2.1 miles of track, even if I only used a small portion of it. Kids will enjoy the playground which has benches nearby for the adults to use while the kids are playing. There is parking out the wazoo here. Just not allowed overnight. It's definitely out-of-the-way and you wouldn't know it was there unless you're looking for it. However the actual park once you are through the entrance and to the main crux of it is quite big and has a shocking number of sports facilities ranging from fields for football and soccer to tennis courts to a golf course. It is very much intertwined with the nature around it but also clear and organized enough so you feel you aren't just in the woods. There are a scattered number of parking lots that may be good for normal capacity but I feel for big games on the fields/facilities it may get packed quickly.

I say that because there is ZERO shade or coverage on the playground. All of the play equipment was too hot to utilize and there was no working water fountain or restroom. On a cooler day my review might have been more charitable, maybe even a 3 star because we would have actually played on the playground. Instead we sort of kicked some mulch around and burned our bottoms swinging on the swings for a few minutes before leaving. Since we were in a roadtrip and just passing through we couldn't be too choosey. I will say that the paved walking path along the perimeter was decent and the dog was a fan. There were a few picnic tables under some big shade trees and the temp felt 10 degrees cooler.

The only people there were adults randomly parked in cars scattered around. Minutes after we arrived a car pulled up, stinking like weed. The driver proceeded to roll a blunt, opening up the door to dump dutch guts. The playground itself was in disrepair and was unkept. The ground was covered in leaves and litter.

They are open from dawn until dusk and offer some of the cleanest facilities around. It is a great place to hold a family gathering. They have a pavilion with a grill available to have hotdogs and hamburgers with the friends and family. They have two basketball courts available. If you're looking to play tennis, they have great courts available with high fences to keep the balls within the court. If you have a baseball or football team, they have baseball and football fields available. They look like they are well maintained and offer great spots tor team sports. There are no playgrounds or picnic facilities here. Lots of old trees and shade. Much history happened here. In 1812 The Petersburg Volunteers camped on the site before leaving for the Canadian border, and in 1824 General Lafayette was greeted with much fanfare. At the beginning of the Civil War volunteers enlisted for service in the Confederate army, and then at the end of the war, a hospital was erected on the site during the siege of Petersburg. There is street parking (no meters) on three sides of the park. Be aware of residentially-challenged in the park if that is something that concerns you.
