We had a great fishing trip and caught tons of fish! My son was so excited and we would recommend Captain Jared to everyone!

If you want a top notch fishing experience, this is the guy that you need to go with. Captain Jared is a local born and raised and knows the area like the back of his hand. We went on a 8 hours excursion with my son and dad and it was an experience of a lifetime. Capt Jared talked us through what kind of fishing we would be doing and where we would go. He had a loose plan for the day, based on the tides, weather, etc. We were not disappointed. We were on fish within 10 minutes of leaving the dock, and it really didn't stop all day. We fished docks early, then some oyster beds, small islands, then out to some reefs, the sand key jetty, then back to docks to finish up. We caught some of everything (black drum, sheepshead, a flounder!, red fish, mangrove snapper, a shark, snook, and trout). Many were not keepers, but we did pretty well. I think we took home 11 keepers, after catching about 50 fish (we kind of lost count). If we didn't have any luck in a spot, we moved on pretty quickly. He seemed to know the patterns intimately. He was such a good guide. He truly wants people of have a great fishing experience. He was disappointed that he couldn't have gotten us more fish (he highly recommends the spring season). We were happy with our experience. NOTE: If you are staying local, there is a place in Ozone (Molly Goodheads) that will prepare your fish. Reasons why a boat ride with Captain Jared is a billion times better than a 2-hour dolphin booze cruise out of Clearwater: 1. Captain Jared asks what you want to see and do (fishing? shelling? dolphin watching?) and does everything in his power to give you just that. A captain serving dozens (or hundreds) of guests can't do that - even if a pod of dolphins started performing an impromptu synchronized dance, the booze cruise would have to keep up with its carefully timed route. 2. Dolphin watching is a billion times better on Captain Jared's boat. When he spotted a pod of dolphins, he idled the boat so we could enjoy them and take as many pictures and videos as we wanted. The dolphins weren't quite cooperative enough to stay in view of my camera at all times, but that didn't matter; when I stood up I had a 360 degree uninterrupted view. It got me wondering what you do when you want to see dolphins from the mega boat, but they're on the other side, and/or you're elbowing other guests for a good view. 3. No noise pollution on Captain Jared's boat! The sea is full of wonderful sounds - crashing waves, various species of birds - - why lose that to constant corny jokes and never-ending factoids spoken over a staticky sound system? Captain Jared will point out what you're seeing and share some helpful information here and there, but unless you ask for more narration, he'll keep it at a minimum. All this said, our adventure with Captain Jared was the highlight of our long weekend on the Gulf. This was my first ever private charter and it did not disappoint. I've been on head boats before but you don't learn anything and just drop a line and hope for the best. My father was in town and after three years of living here I knew it was time for a professional to give me some pointers. After carefully vetting some local inshore captains I saw Jared was highly recommended and lived in the area his whole life. Jared's schedule is filled up quite often so plan ahead but he is also accommodating with his schedule so give him a shout to see what he can offer. The boat we went on was top notch (he owns a few) it was extremely clean, fast, safe and the best trolling and power pole technology to get you in those tight and shallow points where the fish are holding. The day we went out was windy and the water was murky which is not ideal but this guy must have brought us to a dozen or more so spots to put us on fish. When I first booked I said I want to target trout and red fish and he got us both. My first ever red since moving down here! As a captain this guy is a go getter. Very personable and a sharer of fishing knowledge. It was a true learning experience and worth every dime. Also as mentioned he is a life long resident of the area and can recommend restaurants, bars, things to do for those that are visiting. I wish I had pictures to share but it was a non stop great time and never thought about grabbing my phone once. read more

In addition my wife and I found out he is also a great area guide and mixed our trip with fishing and shelling on an island along with cruising very close to a school of dolphins. My husband, in-laws and I went Scalloping with Capt. Jared during our vacation and it was, undoubtedly, the highlight of my vacation. I've never been scalloping before but Capt. Jared showed us what to look for and how to spot the scallops and by the end of the trip, I felt like an expert. Capt. Jared provided all of the equipment so all we had to do was show up in our bathing suits. Capt. Jared may seem young, but he knows the gulf like the back of his hand and is a very competent Captain. Needless to say, I felt very safe even though we were in the middle of the ocean/intercoastal. Oh, Capt. I found captain Jared on yelp because my parents were coming to town and I was looking for something cool to do with them. I researched many options for fishing tours but Jared had consistently good reviews and rates. My dad hasn't fished in a long time and my mom even longer but my mom ended up catching half of the 50+ fish and my dad a huge Jack (I'll try to upload a pic). This was a 12/10 trip. Some captains are only in it for the money, but this guy is definitely genuinely psyched about fishing. Going into the trip, we weren't expecting too much other than the typical trout, snook, and bare sun. We ended up hooking into trophy sized trout, snook, hooked into a couple stingray we ended up using as shark bait, and our daughter caught a shark! We saw sharks, dolphins and even manatees (which were supposedly out of season). We're a family of 5; 2 adults, a 15 y/o, and 12 and 10 y/o and he was very good with the kids. What a fabulous four hour fishing trip!!! Captain Jared took us directly to a fishing hot spot where we spent four hours catching fish after fish. Virtually every cast resulted in a fish on. I went out on a four hour trip with Jared today, and I'm really glad I did. He is super professional, knowledgeable and most importantly a great fisherman. Fishing is his passion, and it's obvious that he truly enjoys putting his clients on fish all day. A cold front had just come through before our trip, so I wasn't sure that we would catch very much, but I was dead wrong. We caught trout, grouper, Sharks, sting rays, cobia and more. Great trip with the captain. Clean boat with all the bells and whistles you would want for the style of fishing we did. Equipment was what you would want as well. We fly fished and bait fished.
