We scored a deal on Groupon for the dolphin tour. We made it just in time for us to go on the last tour of the afternoon coming from Ybor City. Plan about an 45 minute to an hour drive if you are coming from there if you are hitting up the Clearwater area. The check in process was easy and we got our picture taken, which is available for a small charge if you want the purchase it after the tour through the Tropics website. There is a bar, bathroom, and plenty of seating on the boat during the tour. It would have been nice if it was a little cooler, but we can't help what the summer brings with the heat. There was a breeze off and on, which helped a lot. The captain and the staff members were great. The captain gave a informative speech while we were going to the halfway point about the Clearwater Bay and the dolphins. We saw lots of dolphins come up around the boat and there is plenty of picture taking while you are on the boat. I recommend checking it out while you're in the area to amp up the boat game! read more

The First Mate drank 4 beers during our tour, the first 3 were within 30 minutes. I am so disappointed that staff was under the influence while taking us on our tour. We went on the sunset cruise, and even though the weather wasn't ideal for a perfect sunset, it was still a fantastic experience! I'd heard about drink packages but didn't see any information online. Once we arrived, we found out that the drink packages only covered beer, and all cocktails were an additional charge. While I was a bit disappointed by this, we did purchase a drink onboard, and it was good. The boat was spacious and not overcrowded, so nearly everyone had a spot to sit. We also met a couple with a wheelchair and learned this was one of the few cruise boats in the area that is handicap accessible--kudos to them for being inclusive! It's sad to think people could miss out on such a great experience because of accessibility issues. We even spotted some dolphins, which was an amazing highlight. We booked a last minute tour off a Groupon deal same day! Had trouble booking through Groupon but we were able to communicate through text with someone and got it figured out. From checking in, captain, crew and the young lady working the mic on the tour it was great (funny too!) - we saw a few dolphins at the beginning and then no more unfortunately. It did rain right before we boarded so can't control Mother Nature! Grateful for the experience and enjoyed the views! Lots of room on the boat & you can move around to take pictures! read more

We were looking to get out in the water, see some dolphins and get some interesting information about local sites and wildlife. We did get that out of experience. We were not interested in the fraternity/sorority or "get your drink on" or the pre party to for the club. It was nice to view the dolphins from the upper deck and it was a great day and enjoyed seeing dolphins. Tolerated the dad jokes because there was a decent amount of interesting information. I wouldn't recommend to my friends and family, but maybe recommend to those going through RUSH or on Spring Break. read more

The best thing I've experienced all year visually just do it if you are considering it. The sunset cruise was beautiful and the host were nice. However it kinda got a little annoying with the partying stuff I thought this was a family event but it was like they were tryna get turnt on the dolphin cruise and this girl who was like drunk out her mind was screaming the whole time but they kept giving her more drinks. Went on a sunset ride with a small group. We arrived 20 minutes early and check in was simple. We chose our drink package and received our cup, then for into line for pics and boarding. We rode upstairs and it was a little rough, so we didn't refill too much. They did a great tour, then out for sunset. It was beautiful, the music was great, and the staff was a lot of fun to "cruise" with tonight. Such a great time and so reasonable. Parking was tricky. So arrive early to get a spot. We booked this with our City Pass. The only tour available was the dolphin tour, so thats what we did. We hoped to go out into the Gulf and see dolphins. Technically we got to the Gulf and we did see some dolphins in the near distance. Then we headed back to the Bay where celebrity houses were pointed out. Our tour guides were fun, friendly, and knowledgeable. But we expected more. The dolphin part of the Dolphin Tour was very short. I enjoyed watching the pelicans dive for fish. I saw a few dolphins surface. Then we just cruised the Bay for 45 minutes. The tour was supposed to be 2 hours and it was maybe an hour and a half. It wasn't bad but we were disappointed. The information about the city and area was nice to learn about but at times difficult to understand through the speaker system. read more

We did our tour on a Saturday night and left early to make sure to get there on time but the traffic getting over the bridge is awful so we were running to make the boat on time so make sure to leave extra early. read more

Pros: the tour itself was great, saw lots of dolphins and the tour guides were entertaining. The music played on the boat was also really fun. There were a few things I didn't love, starting with the 20 minute line for drinks. It would be nice if there were two bartenders. There weren't enough seats to accommodate everyone on the top deck which was also kind of a pain. The worst was the parking. This is more so a Clearwater problem, but beware that there is no parking. They'll give you a marina validation code but good luck finding a spot in the marina. We had to pay $20 to park at a nearby garage and were lucky to find a spot in it. Be sure to get there early to account for the horrific parking situation. One thing I will mention is we used the city pass and booked this in advance online with zero issues. read more

I got a Groupon, but it was shady how on Groupon they say "all taxes and fees included" but when you go to book with this company, they charge $1.50 per person in tax. Groupon said they could refund the whole thing, but I already told small children we were seeing dolphins. Anyway, if they had just fees in the Groupon it would have been better, but the cruise itself was a lot of fun. It's probably more fun if you have kids or are from out of town, but it's fun to look back and forth to spot dolphins, and we saw plenty. There's a lower level with some seating and an upper level with better views, but no roof, so it can get hot. They have info on their site about parking, but basically it's $5 or $6 during your boat ride or you can find parking elsewhere, which is risky on a crowded day. Oh, and they said "one water container per group" which was insane since we had a party of 8 people and weren't going to take 1 water bottle. It didn't matter, as they didn't check and other brought in actual gallon jugs, but this rule seemed rude or possibly illegal unless they were willing to give us all the water we needed. They did have alcohol drinks for sail, but water hits the spot on a hot summer day. read more

Such a fun experience -- we saw over 20 dolphins! The boat was big and had lots of seating (though every possible seat and standing space was filled), and I was SO thankful for the complementary water. Honestly, I think pretty much any boat tour would have been just as fun though. We saw lots of other boats on the water, and all of them were watching the dolphins. Our tour guide was great and told us fun little facts about things we saw along the way. She also recommended Sandbar's burgers which were incredible! It's a boat that floats and is safely operated. The captain is very knowledgeable and operated the boat perfectly. The ships crew was awesome and also knowledgeable of the tourist information. There are several factors that brought my review down in stars. The boat was overcrowded for sightseeing. The railings were full leaving a second row viewing only, and you couldn't see the water. The one driving my wife crazy was the music. It was so loud we couldn't hear the crew giving information about houses, bridges, and other thing's important enough for them to mention. It stayed loud. 2 hours of loud music on a sunset cruise. Other passengers complained to us and it was very noisy and tiresome by the end. We couldn't wait to get off. Lastly, the seats were dirty from the previous trip that day. We had white on and needed to go ask for towels before we could sit on a wooden bench in the center of the deck. More appropriate to call this the Party Boat complete with wine and beer than to call it a Sunset Cruise. Don't recommend. read more

My family of 4 took this boat trip for the 4th of July. It was a great trip, everyone enjoyed themselves. The young lady on tip narrating the tour was very knowledgeable and gave some good info. Just beware if you only drink water, there is FREE water on the boat. You DO NOT have to buy a cup for it like the young man at the boarding window told me. I was really disappointed in that integrity. And when I brought it to their attention, they didnt really seem to care. Ripping of Sr Citizens is horrible. when you have to walk on others to get to where you want to be it is wrong.. We took the sunset cruise, it was beautiful! The boat is two stories so get there early if you want top deck for best view. The challenge is EVERYONE wants top and there just isn't enough seating. Perhaps if the rearranged and added rows of bench seating they could accommodate more people. I did not like the ladder attached to bench , it was uncomfortable to have it against back and gave less butt room. This is a great cruise and priced affordable My only real complaint was the music choices. It was a downer! They played a few songs that put you in a uplifting mood , fun songs but those slow long songs need to be revisited. I know music is subjective but try some songs everyone would enjoy so you can capture everyone's attention. Also, maybe add a few more 'fun facts' about Tampa to share.
