Came to Captain Bob's for a late lunch on a Friday and found the place mostly empty. The only other…read morepatrons who were there were enjoying the buffet but there was steady to-go business. The interior of the restaurant is loaded with ocean and sea items, as you'd expect. The tables and chairs are a mishmash mostly consisting of, what I'd call, banquet chairs. Mine had a pretty big rip in it and a mighty wobble that must have meant to make me feel like I was on a boat. The server took my order. I got a hot dog and fries and asked if they could put their pimento cheese on the hot dog (if you haven't tried it, you should!). The server said she would have to ask and I said that I was happy to pay extra if needed. What came next was so odd. I could hear the entire conversation from the kitchen. Server: This guy wants to know if we can put pimento cheese on a hot dog. Cook: What? That's weird. Server: Yea, but that's what he wants. Cook:.....No. Tell him we don't have any. Server: Ok. So the server came back to my table and said they didn't have any. So I just got ketchup and mustard. The dog was fine. The fries were under-seasoned. Really, after hearing that convo, I was just ready to leave. The sign out front says that "There's only two places to eat..Home and Captain Bob's..." well I can put pimento cheese on my hot dogs at home so I don't need to return to Captain Bob's.

They were talking to each other and asking about the families from across the room. There was a buffet and it was delicious. Everyone in line was cutting up with one another. Great experience and good food.

We all LOVED the charcuterie that came out first with local and seasonal items, as well as the starters (choice of scallops or sliced beet and goat cheese). The waiters as well as the chef came out multiple times to ask how we were doing. We all agreed that the mains could have been better. The lamb was overcooked, and the chicken dry; neither was inedible, we just expected more from this restaurant. The fish main was decent but not amazing. So whomever prepped the mains could work on that. We all enjoyed our desert. I really want to give this restaurant 5 stars and with a tweak of the mains I will be happy to. I also suggest a second salad option as not everyone enjoyed the option that was served. Our drinks were so exceptional we all ordered a second one which we rarely do.

The charcutery board wasn't what I was hoping for based off of how the restaurant presents itself, and the time spent on the meal seemed excessive. I was at least hopeful to end on a pleasant note, but was given a science experiment of a cheesecake. Despite this the chef alongside the servers were stellar and made the experience significantly better.

I started with a quite interesting drink because I was intrigue when I read "goat cheese vodka".... Goat cheese vodka, strawberry syrup, blanco vermouth... very tasty! You would never know it's goat cheese vodka, just made it taste creamy and smooth. I'd definitely get it again. For an app we had the fried gnocchis which were tasty, but I guess I wished the portion was slightly bigger because it was so good! Our meals were huge though so we left there quite stuffed. My husband had the wild boar special with mushroom and English pea risotto and it was good! I had the shrimp and grits with gravy on top. It was pretty good but not something out-of-this-world. Plus It was such a hot day that I was sweating by the end of it I would order something different if I went back. Our bartender was super friendly and talkative, he knew his stuff. Between my husband and I, we had 3 cocktails, a glass of wine, an appetizer and 2 entrees and our meal came to about $180 with tip. All in all, a good meal!

My wife and I were in town on business and always make a point of seeking out local restaurants…read moreinstead of chain establishments. Based on the excellent ratings on both Google and Yelp, we were genuinely looking forward to trying this place. Unfortunately, when we arrived around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, the restaurant was completely closed. The doors were locked, the lights were off, and there wasn't a sign on the door explaining why. What made it even more frustrating was that their website, Google, Yelp, and even their Facebook page all indicated they were open, and there was no post or notice explaining that they would be closed. I don't normally leave reviews for restaurants I haven't had the opportunity to dine at, but keeping your hours up to date is an important part of customer service. If you need to close unexpectedly, a quick update on Google or social media--or even a simple note on the door--goes a long way and saves customers a wasted trip. I'm leaving a three-star review in the hope that this serves as constructive feedback. We'll gladly give the restaurant another chance if we're back in the area, but I hope future guests have a more accurate idea of whether the restaurant is actually open before making the drive. To those about to nosh, we salute you! Hopefully your trip here ends with a meal instead of a locked door.

We of course had the burgers and added a side of Brussel sprouts. The burgers were on a nice bun and definitely hand pressed with (our pick) hand cut stake fries. We sat and relaxed while chatting with our server Morgan and discussing areas of interest. We were about to wrap it up and my wife decided she needed to try the peach cobbler! It was warm and had just the right amount of vanilla ice cream. Very good! Everything combined brought this little burger bar to a solid 4 for us. Hope you enjoy it as well!
