A day trip to Englishtown NS, lunch was good. Clams and fish were cooked to perfection. You are asked if you wanted your clams well cooked, that was nice. Fish had a light batter and was very fresh. The tarter sauce is homemade, if you don't like curry, don't eat it. It's not cheap, $24 for the clams $16 for 2 piece haddock. Scenery, the owner and his dining area was entertaining.

A very lively place and friendly owner with excellent fish and chips and fried clams. Highly recommended stop whether or not you intend to take the ferry across.

A little Captain Caper humour in "down home" Cape Breton, alomg the Cabot Trail.

Fantastic fish and homemade chips! Locally and Trip Advisor award-winning batter recipe and a delicious, non-traditional tartar sauce served up in style by Captain Capers himself. Picturesque pitstop overlooking St. Ann's Bay before taking the Englishtown ferry along the Cabot Trail. Unpretentious, down home and always fresh.

They ask lots of questions and helpful in every way. The store is really small and cramped when it gets busy. If eating in you'll have a lot of takeout order people standing around hovering over you. The food is just okay. Nothing great and not horrible. They use a good size and piece of fish and it was good just a little over cooked. The chicken has a lot of breading and is severely over cooked on many pieces. Any piece that wasn't overcooked tasted great. The breading has good flavor. The fries need SALT; add salt before eating. They are dry and tasteless. Not sure I'd waste my time stopping again, but I can see why regulars visit. There aren't many options I. The area.

The takeout crowd was steady, even well into the evening on a Sunday, but after a short wait we had our food and popped over to one of the picnic tables that line their expansive parking lot. I snagged a two-piece combo, and opted for a side of gravy instead of a side dish. The chicken was hot out of the fryer, tender and moist. The skin - arguably the best part of fried chicken - was nicely seasoned, and tasted similar to KFC in flavour and style. The crispness of Korean fried chicken is king in my opinion, but this old school style certainly has its place. I am glad that we had it on location, as time and steaming in its own heat would not do it any favours. I always enjoy the concept of crinkle cut fries, but the execution is often a mixed bag. Lick-a-Chick's were somewhere in the middle - not soggy and disappointing, but not crispy enough to be particularly memorable either. Just a decent, average fry that made for a good gravy-delivery-system. Long standing institutions like Lick-a-Chick are still here for a reason, providing tasty treats at reasonable prices, and becoming a part of the community that they serve.
