Lobster Galley is under new ownership effective June 2025 and the New owner, Dale, is a local lobster fisherman. All the seafood is locally sourced, Dale personally catches all the lobster that is freshly prepared each day. Everyone was very friendly and professional. Our server, Allison, was very personable and took very good care of us. The seafood chowder is the best I've ever eaten. I had the ceaser salad with lobster and my husband had a lobster dinner. Immaculate!!! First things first.... new ownership. Very important point. The food here was incredible!!!!!! The portions were perfectly balanced (maybe even snuggling up to large) and the pricing was very fair for a seafood place that offers fresh seafood, on water views and what one can only call amazing service. Truly amazing. Robyn was an absolute delight! Best server we've ever had. The seafood chowder stole the show for me and I say that finding only one tiny fault with the entire meal. The " today's catch on a platter" was fantastic! We expected roughly 2/3 of the portions for each "sample" that we received! Off to a great start right there! The deep fried mussels were very lightly battered most and delicious. The calamari was crisp tasty and not overcooked in the slightest. The lobster bites were good. Not my favourite(personal preference) but good all the same. And it came with a good portion of fresh mussels in shell enough for 2. Accompanied by a "tartar" sauce that was light enough to not overwhelm, but had enough flavour to stand on its own. My wife had the lobster roll and fries... Toasted bun, crisp fries and of course plenty of lobster. It was enjoyed. I had the lobster Caesar and I was pleased. It was a solid portion though... and this is where my only tiny complaint comes in... The ball came in, was too small for the amount of salad you got in my opinion. The first half dozen-dozen fork fulls came at the expense of sacrificed, croutons, tiny bits of lettuce and lobster hitting the table. Lol as I said...tiny complaint. Finally the chowder. Oh the chowder!!! When a chowder is so good as to make one question social norms, and proprieties, such as...can I bathe in chowder? is that socially acceptable? will be judged for doing so?? This question and many others came to mind upon the very first spoonful of what I can only call seafood, ambrosia. It was exactly what a bowl of seafood chowder should be. By definition. Imagined or described. I know I've said enough and possibly too much. But I really can't say enough in urging you to go to the Lobster Galley,under the new ownership and I can honestly promise you will not be disappointed. We've been coming to the East Coast for nine years to Cape Breton for five and in those five, we always made two stops every time one for chowder one for all you can eat lobster this place does both and I'm gonna say unequivocally better than anyone else. On the three weeks that I was in the East Coast, this is the only place that HIGHLY would say to avoid. The service and food was crap. Completely crap. If there was a zero star rating I would have given it. It took us forever to be seated and we have a daughter with special needs. She enjoys looking out the window. When we asked to be placed at the last table by the window we were told, "We are saving that for a table that might come for 6." Even though there was three other tables not by the window for 6. Complete crap. So my kid with autism who was sitting and waiting a long time for any sort of service as the rest of the table decided to sit in the middle of the floor. We didn't even bother to move her. I felt like sitting on the floor as well. Maybe we would have gotten some service. Our server was short and not friendly. I am not sure if she was uncomfortable with our daughter but for the rest of the trip our child was treated really well. And maybe if we were sat at the table that we asked for that remained empty for the next 40 minutes, maybe she would have been happy to sitting by the window looking at the bay. Food was sad. This was the most expensive lobster roll we recieved (at 29 bucks) and it had the most lettuce and celery and filling in it. And it wasn't flavourful. And after we paid I did tell the owner about our issues, and she shrugged and said sorry. And nothing. You should be ashamed. We were greated all over Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Cape Breton with hospitality, kindness to our daughter, and good food... but one exeption. Here Do yourself a favour and bypass here. I rarely ever give 1 star as a food reviewer but this place deserves less than that. What a flipping pitty. No wonder it hasn't been reviewed sinced 2018. People should not even bother. Overprice and poor quality. Ate here on a recent vacation. Ordered a lobster roll. My lobster roll had a scant amount of lobster and basically tasted of wilted lettuce. I visit the Maritimes yearly and this is the first disappointing lobster roll meal I have ever had. They charged $29.00 for the roll with fries. For the price, that roll should have been over-flowing with lobster meat. I also watched a waitress refuse to explain to an elderly man how to crack a 1.5 pound lobster they chared him $54.00 for. That left a worst taste in my mouth than the sub par lobster roll. I recommend giving it a pass. Lacks the east coast hospitality and quality. read more

We ate here last night and we're underwhelmed. The view was beautiful. We thought it was a bit pricey for what we got. We both had the crab special and it was good. However we had to send back the mashed potatoes because they were cold. We should have sent back the fresh vegetables also because they were barely warm. Our waitress was adequate. After a long drive on the Cabot Trail, this looked like a good restaurant. Nice view of the lake, seated by the window. Ordered the catch of the day, salmon. What arrived was a piece of cold fish, the size of three fingers, half a dozen pieces of assorted vegetables and eight slices of reheated, roasted potatoes. $23.95 plus tip and tax comes to $30 - ouch. Others rave about the lobster - drop a lobster in boiling water and set a timer, melt some butter and put it on a plate with a cracker. It's not rocket surgery. read more

It's difficult to survive in this part of the world and not serve great lobster. It's not a fancy place, but the location was superb at the head of the inlet. My wife had a wonderfully cooked lobster, I went for the haddock and chips. Both done to perfection, service was friendly and efficient although we went late and it was uncrowded. read more

My wife and I spent 2 weeks on Cape Breton Island for the Celtic Colour Festival. Before one of the events, we stopped at the Lobster Gally near St Ann's to eat an early lobster dinner. Of all of the many meals we ate while on our 4 week trip from home in Michigan, that meal was not only the worst tasting but also the most expensive. There was no lobster pond to "select your own" and we were told we could only order a 3-pound+ lobster at a cost of $65. The lobster was old, stringy, and tasteless. In addition, I ordered iced tea and was told I would have to pay for refills. Our waitress was more interested in getting us out of the restaurant before a large group arrived than on seeing to our needs at the table. Attend the Colour Festival but stay away from this place! Deserves a 0.1 Star but that was not an option. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way up the Cabo Trail for a round of golf at Highland Links. I must admit the service and the food was fantastic. We could not help but notice they had their own live lobster tanks inside the restaurant so our plan is to come back later after golf and try their dinner menu. Another review will follow. read more
