Just while searching for beaches in a 30 minute driving radius, we ran into this gem of a park that's so well maintained. They have ample free parking and the walk to the bay is so quick. The bay might not be the best to walk on as sand is relatively less with more gravels and getting down to it from the stairs is little difficult even for well grown adults. This could definitely be wheelchair accessible in a certain way. They also have few picnic enclosures and a memorial to one of their town's fallen soldiers. The walking pavement is neatly laid out for a calm, peaceful and relaxing walk. We went on overcast conditions and had to return to the car just before the rain caught up. Will definitely return here for summers to watch the sunset in this beautiful bay/park.

My favorite part is the dog park. Many people bring their dogs here to run around and play. The park also has a beach area which is nice. This park is very peaceful and clean as well. There's also a huge grass area where you can fly kites, have a picnic, etc. Tons of parking and also bathrooms are available!!!

Now by living with it has become the new normal, it is commendable on how these businesses and public places continue to remain open and cater to the general public by following the safety standards. We wanted to find some place for a nice evening walk and ran into this in Google maps. It was a 30 minute drive from our place, to get here. The parking had a lot of spaces and wasn't too busy. We took a nice walk by the beach. The beach was closed by fences in a lot of places warning on the high lead content the water would contain. The roads, children play area and the side gardens were well maintained. Most of the people were weary of the pandemic and wore masks, but not everyone. The overall distance would be a good 2 mile walk that was not hard and was enjoyable to do by the bay.

However, the moment I saw the EPA hazard sign that you can see in the photos, it was like finding a hair in a five-star restaurant. Turned me off to this park completely and I just left. They need to clean up their act.

This is one of the first beach and broadwalk that appears along the NJ shoreline after exiting…read morenorth Jersey. Of course that makes it really popular and crowded destination in summer months. There are lots of parking lots and paid street parkings near the broadwalk. The lots are far more expensive than street parking, so better to go early to find one. The beach area is nice. There's a $8 entree fee and they do check for the tickets time to time. Rental chairs and umbrellas are available but super expensive, $35 for an umbrella and $15 for each chair. Lifeguards actively monitor the designated areas. The broadwalk is huge. Plenty of shops, restaurants, restrooms, fun activities and a convention hall reside along it. Inside the convention hall, there are more shops, local artisan market, and restaurants. We spent about 6 hours in the area. I found this beach friendly and safe. The food was decent. Restrooms were well maintained too. Overall a really nice place to go for a beach day, but be prepared to spend some, unless you come fully prepared from home.

The recreation center is huge, miles and miles of beach, park, lake, and trails. Pets and their owners may visit bayside beaches throughout the year. Pets are only allowed on oceanside beaches from September 15-March 15. Pets are not permitted on oceanside beaches during the spring and summer, but you can still take them to the parks, trails and other areas. We went in October and entrance was free, we parked near the beach, and we spent a wonderful day.

I really enjoyed Sandy Hook. It doesn't have a boardwalk, which I don't mind - so if you're looking for boardwalk/bar/restaurant vibes, this is not it. But if you're looking for a quiet, family day at the beach, then this spot is great. You don't need a beach pass per person (which I hate paying) but parking is $20 per day. Better than the anxiety of having to look for street parking somewhere. They have a few lots, but I've read several reviews that they get full if you get there after 8:30 to 9. We got there at around 8 on a Saturday, so we were good. They have bathrooms (pretty clean for a beach) and showers (8 of them!). I love a good rinse after the beach so that I'm not sitting in my car with a bathing suit full of sand. There was one food truck that day but they were selling acai bowls, so definitely bring your own food and lots of snacks. Waves were rough that day and there were a lot of surfers, but there had just been some thunderstorms the night before, so that probably played a factor. Can't wait to go back next year!

Coming from LA, where beaches are almost always packed this was such a nice change of scenery. During the summer if you don't get there by 10am if you're driving, good luck finding a parking spot.
