The decor in this tavern is gorgeous. I love the velvet paintings or maybe something about corgis that brings out a smile every time I see one. The wall design wasn't a wallpaper but with the many eyes painted on them which gave me goosebumps. I enjoyed my beer and burger for brunch. read more

Had a great brunch here on Sunday. My biscuits and gravy were fantastic: very savory and peppery, with two eggs on top. Very hearty for $12. The draft cold brew was some of the best I've had in a while (bit of a coffee hound here!). My one criticism was I didn't see an option to buy separate sides like bacon, eggs, etc. I would appreciate the extra options, especially for some of the smaller dishes. read more

My go to bar in the neighborhood, such a great spot for food and drink. It's best when it's nice out and you can score a seat next to the big open window facing the street. I usually order the pimento grilled cheese with fried green tomatoes and suggest that you do the same. The burger is great too. I am writing this update to commend the way that management addressed this matter. I was contacted on here, by email, and then by phone. Management was diligent about following up with me, and they were extremely apologetic, and accountable. Comments like the one I previously made, are hard to make (and hard to experience), and I want to give major kudos to management for not shying away from, or being defensive about a sensitive topic. I also want to highlight something that I mentioned briefly in my first comment which was that there was a second waitress who sensed the visible discomfort, and tension, and she tried to take over, and do the right thing. The GM asked that I come back, and give the place a second chance, and after speaking with her, I can say that I would feel comfortable coming back, and trying again. Visited here while doing some apt hunting in Bed Stuy. I was pleasantly surprised. First, a star for the ambiance. It's got a cozy bar feel. Interesting bird (parrot?) theme for decor. Unisex bathrooms. Mostly high top or bar seating. Not great for large groups but perfect for a foursome or less. Another star for service. We had a very nice server, though he seemed to be the only one working the tables, which only made his patience and attitude more appreciated. Another two stars for food. We ordered the veggie burger and their special chicken & waffle sliders. Both were surprisingly good. I really wasn't expecting much from a small local bar on the corner, but the food tasted great. Not too heavy or filling, good flavors, good texture, good value. The chicken & waffle sliders come with a biscuit gravy sauce that combines perfectly with the table hot sauce. Veggie burger had tons of flavor. And lastly, one star for personal detail. My friend really likes iced tea, but hates powdered iced tea. It's always a gamble which she'll be served, but this place serves legit iced tea, brewed not dissolved. And because there was a bit of a wait to get our orders out, the server comped our drinks for the meal. We weren't even bothered by the wait. So that's a full five stars. read more

This place is really a good time tavern. The bartenders are super friendly, the drinks are real good, and they have food until super late (like in the AM late). Their fries are to die for and I do want to come back and have their chicken sandwich. Their bathrooms are nautical-themed! My 1st time here the waitress was cool up until we left and said thank you to her she rudely ignored us, not sure why she received an 18% tip, not like we didn't tip her at all.... 2nd Time It was a Male waiter and he was lovely all around! Ordered my Micheladas and I know they usually come with the beer on the side.... and they didn't come. When I asked her "Where are the two beers for the Micheladas?" her response was "I am not jipping you." I never told her she was I just asked her where are they. There was only 1 can there, she said she poured a whole beer into one michelada... but I highly doubt that because it didn't taste overwhelmingly like beer, it tasted just right as usual... I think she used 1 beer for 2 drinks because she was pissed off.... idk why but she was really nasty. She also stated she poured the whole beer in one because and I quote "So I dont have to carry all this shit out there, ya know?" (Side note: 10 minutes later a woman ordered a michelada across from me and the waitress brought her the side of beer....) No I don't know.... what I do know is you chose to be a waitress and that entails bringing what we ordered to the table.... This was my new favorite go to on the weekends, but after that disgusting waitresses attitude, I'll never be here again. And I am not the only one because I see multiple reviews about rude staff, maybe it's time for a staff meeting.... or new staff. The service here is fantastic-positive energy and just super nice. The servers/bartenders make you feel welcome. The drinks here are good, and the burgers and fries are even better. I used to live down the block from Captain Dan's, and I would get home around the time they open. As soon as they opened, they would have customers immediately. This is a great place but theirs a girl there that bartends with short hair, maybe black or latino . She has such an unwelcoming spirt to be a bartender. She never smiles and she seems soo unhappy. all the other staff seem's ok except her. So I try to avoid the place if she's there which sucks. This is an update to my last review of Captain Dan...after my encounter with the bar's bouncer(which confirms that he is not an owner), I was contacted by the bars actual manager/owner. We had a phone conversation whereby she apologized for the behavior of this individual and his comments to me and my friends. It was great to see how caring she was, much different attitude than what was portrayed in our first experience. She's even offered that we come back in with our dogs (which the bar allows in their patio area). I'm looking forward to going back soon. ____________________________________________________ Wow, this dude just said don't ever come back here....ummm what?!...all bc he accused us of "sneaking" in our dog, and said we were trying to be sneaky. This whole neighborhood caters to dogs and dog owners. Literally we were at two dogs bats before then. He grabbed my beer and threw it on the ground. He thinks he's the owner. Which is fine but damn! First off : let me preface by saying i LOVE the Dans. Weather it be the bangin cheeseburger, the selection of draft and canned beer (not to mention bottles), the cool tiki vibes (Feels like I time traveled and am not even in Bushwick!), or the wings?? Let's not forget the wings. Just the right balance of spice and chicken. For all this and many more, I would not in good conscious be able to leave anything but a five star review for my favorite "local" "watering hole." I come here at least twice a month, sometimes as much as three times in a single week. Weather it be a first tinder date (aren't they all LOL) or just a nightcap after work, with or without some bro's, it is pretty much the only option around if you want chill vibes, good food, better drinks, and good all around vibes. And normally I wouldn't even go to yelp because I don't want even more people finding out about my "little secret"!! But recently I had an experience that I feel is necesary to repeat here. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon to relax and maybe have a couple. I was a little hungry but I wasn't sure if I was going to order anything yet. The girl working was pleasant enough at first, smiling at me and asking if she could get me anything. I was about to have a long weekend so I took a gamble and got a "blue motorcycle" which I understand is there version of a Long Island ice tea (limit two per customer -- maybe after three they turn blue like the girl in willy wonka, or blue man group, or Eiffel 65, LOL!) -- at this point she gave her first red flag, saying "wow somebody's feeling frisky!" And laughing AT me. I figured sure, maybe she's just kidding around, not trying to put me down. What came later showed me my initial benefit of the doubt was a little too generous. She gave me my motorcycle and I began scrolling on my phone as I drank it. When I got near the endings of my drink she asked if I was doing okay and wanted another. A little ashamed at her "frisky" comment, I said I was okay and didn't want to "reach my limit." She then stared blankly back as if she was waiting for me to then decide on something else. I hadn't actually thought about what I wanted instead (because I wanted another BM actually), and didn't appreciate this pressure she was putting me under. So I panicked and ordered a hot toddy because it had been a little cold outside. She said sure thing and went to start it. But meanwhile I realized I had been sort of pressured into a drink I didn't want. I tried to get her attention by staring at her while she made it but it was no use, I ended up only being able to change my order when she brought me the hot drink, not at all a suitable follow up to a Long Island ICED tea, and explained I'd changed my mind-- At this point she put on a very rude look of confusion and paused for a VERY uncomfortable couple of seconds. Slowwwwllly taking the drink away she icily said it was okay, not to worry about it, she could get me something else. At this point her attitude was just too much. I told her what I think I needed, actually-----was the check. Needless to say she did not get a tip. And while I tell myself I will not be back (it's been one week strong), I will probably end up back there. I just hope I have a different bartender or at least she has changed her attitude. I think I heard some drunk blonde guy she kept talking to call her "Sandler", so maybe I will just call ahead or do a "walk-by" to make sure Sandler will NOT be the person I will have the "displeasure" of doing business with next time! All in all a good decent dive bar, with good food and nice people and all around chill vibes. P.S. Cool bathroom wallpaper too!! read more

First things first: this is an adequate place to meet up with friends for a quick drink just steps out my front door. This lively corner of bed stuy needed an extra watering hole! I love the staff. They're friendly and cool. Also, the food is a total home run. In terms of value, this place is nothing remarkable. The prices sit just in that sweet spot that some small business owners have realized is on the threshold between acceptable and too much. Also, the credit card minimum is a ridiculous $20! Do you have to get trashed if you're paying plastic? I'm sorry but I've lived in other parts of the country and there is nothing that tells me credit card transactions are more costly to penny pinching small business capitalists in New York over, say, Santa Barbara. Moving on... Two gripes remain: 1) the decor and overall vibe is unexpectedly gothic. With such a twee name I expected the place to look more sweet/crafty than somewhere out of Dante's imagination! This is totally forgiveable although it puts a lot of editorial on your casual drinks. 2) the place smells like petco.
