Captain Brad has an excellent understanding of effective teaching methods, an incredible knowledge of sailing and a fantastic way of making his students feel at ease. I feel extremely confident that having taken the ASA 101/103/104 sequence together with him we can now navigate most anywhere we want to go. On our overnight experience he prepared an amazing MahiMahi over red beans and rice we enjoyed while watching a beautiful sunset anchored just off Boca Grande. Even played an original song in his guitar for us. Got us on a real nice Red Snapper that we ate for dinner dockside the last night. I strongly recommend Captain Brad and Southernmost Sailing School for a fun, helpful, and thorough learning experience. He did a wonderful job adjusting to our different skill and comfort levels, and I really appreciate his encouraging approach. His calm reassurance and trust in me helped me to try again...and again...until I had the skills down. You will definitely feel competent and experienced in 101 content by the time you are done, and have a great time doing it. The Sunset Marina was great, and Key West is an awesome location in which to learn. (One tip is to plan on taking a car share to the marina, as parking is not guaranteed). It had a nicely tart flavor and a tall meringue topping that was light and delicious. That part was excellent. Unfortunately, the graham cracker crust was disappointing. I'm not sure what their recipe is, but it could definitely benefit from more butter. It literally disintegrated when we cut into it. For me, the crust is just as important as the filling, so that detracted from the overall experience. There was a lot to like about this pie, and I'm not sure if the crust issue is typical. For me, it brought the experience down to a solid four stars, when it could easily have been five. P.S. There are other Key lime pie spots in town with excellent crusts, though they don't offer the same lofty meringue topping.

Great setting, great people (Karl was our chef, Monica our server), great food. 4 courses - plantain chips with Cuban chimichurri, bollos (like hush puppies but much lighter), fish with grits and pico de gallo and key lime pie with meringue. Also had the best sangria we've ever had. ALL were excellent. You receive recipe cards for each course plus the sangria. Highly recommend.
