    Very nice park.

Gotta add a five star review to balance the OLD reviews. This place might have been neglected in the past but it is now a well maintained and busy park. As I'm writing this there are kids on the playground, people playing tennis, people playing basketball, people on the softball field, people eating on the benches and a family sitting in a gorgeous, shady grassy area having a nice lunch and updating yelp ;) If you enter from the Shaw's side there is a path that goes towards the back of the park and has a really pretty and quiet path that connects to the other side of this park across the street from Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. Just thought I would let the community know this park has been rediscovered and brought back to life.

A lot of improvements have been made since then to get this to the level it is today. There are 10 clay courts, two pickleball courts added, a pro shop, a reception shed, a bathroom (quite a walk away), and a portable restroom. USTA games are hosted here, and that speaks to the condition of the courts. There is also a system that enables casual players to find matches with similarly skilled players. The courts are open from late spring to early fall -- so long as there's light outdoors, there should be play available. There are portable lights as needed. The bathroom door lock has always been a challenge -- not a big deal, but after all these years, the former owner and the new owner -- it feels like it should have been taken care of by now. A door replacement is in order, really. Ample parking except for when there are events at the park or the baseball field right next to the courts. This is a vibrant place -- get ready to play outdoors with loud motorcycle groups riding along the main park street, loud music, and sometimes the smell of something being smoked (hint). We regulars take all that in stride. The staff here is excellent -- they are usually College athletes. There are clinics, of course, for all levels and private lessons as well. An option for membership or drop-in play exists. I have paid for a summer membership on and off. I have to admit that sometimes I sense preferential treatment for those who spend more in these courts. Overall, reasonably priced for outdoor play. Every year, the academy runs a ONE Love Providence program to help the youth learn tennis for free. This is a great program. The fact that it exists within Roger Williams Park is a big plus. You can go anywhere in the park after a match or even before. I definitely recommend these courts to tennis and pickleball enthusiasts alike.
