My first exposure to yoga was just under six years ago when Iyengar Yoga Source was located in historic Pawtuxet Village. Every class since has felt like a stepping stone on what director/instructor Linda DiCarlo stresses is a personal yoga journey. Each class at IYS is structured around a thoughtfully sequenced series of poses which, like a good drama, lead to a high point, then an unwinding and, ultimately, repose in savasana. While the classes are challenging and demanding, instructors Linda, Kathleen and Claude each use their unique teaching styles to provide just the right degree of individual attention to every student to make the goals of the class achievable. Especially impressive is the sensitivity to injuries - both avoiding them in practice and accommodating them in class. In addition to regularly scheduled classes, Linda arranges periodic workshops presented by certified Iyengar instructors from other studios. These workshops offer opportunities for weekend-long immersions in yoga, and the benefit of different teaching perspectives. Exposure to these instructors has also revealed how widely respected Linda is in the Iyengar community and in studios across the country. I have been studying Iyengar Yoga for more than 20 years. I am 77 now, and in the level 4 class at Iyengar Yoga Source. I can say unequivocally that Linda di Carlo i has extended my yoga journey, physically and spiritually far beyond what I could ever have imagined. I thought that as I aged my capacities for doing asanas would diminish but in fact I can do some now that I could not do in the past. And that is not only because of the individual attention we all get from Linda but also because she knows how to sequence the asanas to prepare our bodies and minds to go further. I have been coming to this studio for close to 10 years and am so thankful to have them in my life. If you're looking for a the best yoga studio in the state. You don't have to search any longer! Iyengar yoga teachers (or I should say healers ) are the best because they are all very, well trained and are knowledgable about treating different types of conditions. Whether it is a shoulder, knee or back problem they know how to adjust the posture/s specifically for you. I have found them to be incredibly helpful to me. All the teachers are devoted and enthusiastic about their work. You can tell that they really enjoy sharing their knowledge with their students. Linda is so humble and unassuming that you might not realize at first how incredible and knowledgable she is. Her classes are always perfectly organized, paced and varied, and we're so lucky to have a teacher of her caliber in Rhode Island. Being able to take one of her upper-level 2-hour classes is especially rewarding. I tell friends, when I leave Kathleen's Iyengar classes, I feel 10 years younger. On top of that each class is different, it's always a new adventure. The studio has ample safe parking. There are many things to do in the Broadway / West End / Federal Hill neighborhood with ethnic grocery stores, bakery's and restaurants nearby. The studio is clean and bright. Kathleen is a very patient and knowledgeable instructor. I felt like I had enough time to move through and practice with the poses.
