I've been living in North Providence for almost ten years and I have never explored this park. I was amazed by how clean it was. It looked like they had restrooms as well. I wish the park had a nicer pedestrian path but besides that I enjoyed my walk through this park.

Governor Notte has been in my life for around 6 years now. I have come here so many times and had so many great memories here. It doesn't matter what season you come it's always so clean here and just a relaxing place to be. It's well up kept which I appreciate and everyone who seems to come here has respect and I appreciate that. They do have a tennis court, place to go fishing ( not sure if it's legal or not but people do), a place to swim during summer time, a baseball field and a children's playground area. It's not huge but it's big enough for our little town. They do have a concession stand who's run by Bobby and he's pretty cool, he's really nice and has amazing prices. This place is like a sanctuary to me. The grass is always so nice and the Views are always amazing. They have a very small maybe 10 car parking lot beside the park where the tennis court is but if you follow the signs you can find the bigger parking lot. Give it a go, make memories for free.

Small park, took me a while to find this place. Of note, the address mentioned here isn't accurate. Nice spot to take pics of the waterfalls with the bridge at sunset. Otherwise just a quiet place to relax or take your dog for a walk. Also there's a small beach and playground.

I live down the road from the park and go walking there quite a bit. It's fairly Clean and it looks like they are sprucing it up. There's a new tennis court being put in and the buildings are being worked on also. The only thing I wish is that maybe the bathrooms were open during the day. Maybe it is off season so they aren't open yet but it's still a nice scenic place to walk.

Love this park. Lots to see and it seems like there is always a Town event happening during the Spring thru the Fall. A freshwater beach with a concession stand. A ball field as well as a small playground and a modest walking trail. A two net tennis court also. Really scenic views for a North Providence location. Ample parking as well.

This is one of my favorite hiking places! It's in North Providence where I grew up and they have added trails that wrap all around the water. The best part of this place is the 4th of July fireworks they have the fireworks and little festival net the park!

The pond becomes a nice beach in the summer time.

I love to visit this park. The pond is beautiful in every season and it becomes a lovely place to swim in the summer. At certain times of the year the sand can become smelly so I avoid swimming on those occasions. The playground is shady and well maintained. The parking lot on Douglass Ave makes the park easy to access and the walk from the car to the pond and playground includes a bridge over a waterfall. The bathrooms, when open, are adequate. Bring hand sanitizer if the bathroom is closed and you need the port-a-potty. This is a nice place to take children- though easier if they're potty-trained.

I didn't think such a nice scenic space could exist so close to Charles street!!! Found this place over the summer and enjoyed it, but even more serene and enjoyable in the fall - few to no other people here, and the colors are beautiful. Great place to go for a short walk, take pictures, sit and relax with a book and a coffee. Playground and swings at the waterfront area as well now.

View of the beach from the shade!

Nice clean little beach! Great place to bring the kids to swim in the fresh waters of Twin River. The cost is$2 for N. Prov. residents and $6 for non-residents. Kids under 10 are free. They have a lifeguard on duty till 6pm. They have lots of shaded areas with picnic tables. There are nice walking trails. They have a small and a bigger parking lots. They have a snack bar with reasonable prices for hot dog, burgers and snacks. They also have a playground. The kids are in love with this place.

It is a perfect little spot for seniors like me who just want a 20 minute walk, less than a mile…read more There are plenty of friendly squirrels looking for a treat. I bring a handful of almonds because I heard peanuts were no good for squirrels. Occasionally a blue Jay will follow you flying from tree to tree. You can walk along the lake for a bit if your feet prefer softer ground but then you have to get back on the tar again. You might see a couple of beautiful swans, geese and ducks. But don't feed them bread. A bag of defrosted mixed vegetables is okay. There are a few benches along the way. There are no potty facilities so go before you go. I'm wondering if taking my kayak would be worthwhile because it's such a small lake. It really should be called a pond. It is rather cute and I wish it had a bench close to the parking lot so I can bring my guitar and not disturb the neighbors. It is also a neighborhood and the people living there keep it nice.

This led me to pay close attention to what other animals were around. I came across a couple birds, one more mink, and a lot of Canada geese, some of which were chilling on a house's lawn. They were fearless and started coming towards me but stopped about 6 feet away. The loop around the body of water is about half a mile so it makes for a perfect casual stroll; a lot of people were walking their dog, talking on the phone, or on a run. Two sides of this park has houses, and it seems like people respect the neighbor's privacy and peace since it was quiet. There's a dock to fish, along with other spots. There's a little library where you can take/drop off books. They have lots of benches along the way and the entire path is paved. There is a parking lot across the park; it seems like it belongs to a school so in the summer it's convenient to park there but it might be a different story during the school year.

This park is AMAZING! There's so much to do, see, and explore here…read more Some of the highlights include: the historic Daggett House, the watercolor society, and Loof carousel. There's a dog park, covered pavilion and various picnic sites that can be rented, plus tennis and pickle ball courts. There's also frisbee golf, multiple baseball fields, a walking path along the 10 mile river, plus a playground. There are many places to take photos; Marconi garden with gazebo, a picturesque pond with bandstand, and an English garden (called friendship garden), plus countless places with lush grasses and trees. In the summer they offer family entertainment with various performers and music. They also offer a summer camp for kids as well as various exercise and dance classes for adults. All this information can be found on their website. The hidden gem of this park is its winter wonderland celebration where the community comes together to decorate 650+ Christmas trees along with displays and lights, it's absolutely magical. The park is clean and well maintained and is constantly undergoing updates and improvements. The one down side is there's only 1 small basketball court even though there is space to expand this area.

He was born as Carl Jürgen Detlef Looff in Bad Bramstedt, Holstein (now Germany) in 1852. After immigrating to the United States in 1870 at the age of 18, Looff settled in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and found work as a carver for a furniture factory. He began a hobby of taking home leftover wood scraps from the factory and carving them into carousel animals. He created his first carousel in 1876 and it became Coney Island's first carousel and amusement ride. Looff soon opened his own carousel factory in Brooklyn and continued to build more of the rides. In 1886, Looff was commissioned to build a carousel for Crescent Park (known as "the Coney Island of the East") in Rhode Island. In 1895, he moved his family there and established a new headquarters. He built a second, larger and more elaborate carousel for the amusement park. He also built an adjoining workshop and showroom for prospective buyers. Looff relocated to California in 1910 so he could build carousels for amusement parks on the West Coast. He passed away in 1918 after building close to 50 carousels. Looff is regarded as one of the most important and influential carousel builders of all time. The Slater Park Carousel was originally built for a carnival called Lee Funland in upstate New York. It was moved to Slater Park in 1910 where it still stands today. It is one of only six historic carousels in the United States which still resides in its original building. The carousel is a "stander" or stationary carousel. This means that the animal figures are designed to stand on the platform with at least three legs on the ground and they don't move up and down. This contrasts with "jumper" figures which usually move up and down and have all four legs elevated as if in mid-gallop. The Slater Park Carousel is the oldest Looff-stander carousel in the world. The platform features 44 horses, a camel, a giraffe, a lion, three dogs, and two chariots. Today the carousel is open from April through October. It operates on Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm - 5pm (daily in July and August). Rides cost $1. My family and I recently visited the Slater Park Looff Carousel. My wife and I have been carousel enthusiasts since we visited the New England Carousel Museum a few years ago. We were spending the day in the Greater Providence Area and decided to visit the Crescent Park Looff Carousel in Riverside (which is absolutely beautiful!) We learned that Charles Looff built another carousel in 1895 that was located nearby at Slater Park, so we made a drive there afterwards. We were a little disappointed that the Slater Park Carousel's horses don't move up and down and that there isn't a brass ring device like the one featured on the Crescent Park Carousel. That being said, the Slater Park Carousel is still exceptional. All of the horses and menagerie animal figures have been beautifully carved and painted. We also noticed that this carousel moves quite fast (about 9 mph). In fact, the speed has been slowed down over the years and used to be as high as 14 mph. Overall, we had a fun experience at the Slater Park Looff Carousel and would recommend carousel enthusiasts to visit it as well as the nearby Crescent Park Looff Carousel.
