My family and I have taken multiple guided fishing trips in a lot of places but have never been treated as poorly as by Gary Farmer. I wrote a review 10 years ago and had to comment again bc he's apparently still in business. Save your money folks and go find someone that isn't such an asshole to go fishing with. Captain Gary Farmer at Angler's Choice made a great first impression! He seemed knowledgeable, easy going and prepared. I immediately knew we were a good fit and scheduled a 5 hour bay fishing excursion that very weekend. His 24 ft Carolina Skiff was roomy and comfortable and the perfect size for the 5 of us to fish. Short of our beer and food, he provided all the supplies (tackle, bait, rods/reels) that we could possibly need for our trip. When we arrived at our first fishing spot, he reminded all of us how to properly cast before handing over our poles. Something I was particularly thankful for, as it had been so long since my last cast. Every time we would move to a different location, or change bait, he'd share the best techniques to catch our fish. We caught a ton of fish! Our final haul included 9 trout and 1 2 ft red. My original instinct about Captain Gary was right on. He was friendly, knowledgeable and more than prepared for our trip.Additionally, he told us when to come back to catch particular types of fish and was able to answer a variety of random questions I had about the local wildlife and flora. Our plan of attack on future trips to the beach will involve going fishing with Captain Gary immediately upon our arrival, so we'll have all the fish we could possibly eat for the rest of our trip. Save yourself the trouble and guesswork of choosing a fishing guide and go with Captain Gary. He's the best!

We saw quite a few neat fish and the ride out was smooth. A couple of things I felt could be improved... the equipment provided to some of us was in bad shape. The tube I was given to use was exactly what you can purchase in the pool toys at Walmart and the mouth piece was chewed so badly there was almost nothing left to it. That was pretty disgusting. If I were to go again I'd bring my own. Being our first time we assumed they'd have professional equipment better than we could provide ourselves. While most of the staff were pretty friendly.. the young dark haired guide in charge of providing the instructions and setting the boundaries was just not pleasant at all. He was almost scolding when giving instructions and just very unfriendly to the patrons. Definitely felt like we were a bother to him. I would certainly never book a scuba lesson or tour if he were the instructor. Maybe he was still learning and it was nerves? To end this on a more positive note ... they take safety seriously and they also provide you eco friendly packets of fish food which was really neat!
