I was driving by, famished from not having breakfast though it was nearly noon. I was tempted by the waitress, owner, manager Rosie to have the enchiladas. But then she said she had some special beef soup. I asked about caldo de pollo, but she said not that day. So the beef soup I had. Wow. A huge chunk of extremely tender brisket a baseball-size potato, two sections of fresh cabbage, diced carrots, and an extremely aromatic and tasty beef broth, served with three freshly steamed corn tortillas, and a halved tiny lemon, made this the perfect filling meal I was hoping for. It took me a good 45 minutes just to consume it -- eating extremely quickly as I did. I left not a drop. Of course, I can't comment on what I didn't eat. But the soup was perfect, the service as attentive as I'd ever want (I met the son, I got a brief history and verbal tour of the area). If I come back to Eagle Pass to play poker at the great 11-table room in the casino, I'm eating here again. And I recommend it to any poker players who happen on this review. The place looks busy but clean, well maintained and full of life. We were seated almost instantly and our server were very attentive and proficient. The burrito was a hearty size, but I wish it was smaller, that way I would not have felt as bad about getting rid of it. The entire thing was burnt. Not just the tortilla , the steak ad beans as well. It was extremely unpleasant. I'm just glad I went by myself because I would have hated to put more money into such an awful meal. The food needs to improve here greatly if they hope to continue to attract people in, as it is not in a convenient location. One has to make an effort to go to this establishment.
