I have been shopping at Caraluzzi's for many years. Their meat is the best around. And they have wonderful prepared foods made for people on the go. A Memorial Service that we were attending on May 9, became my responsibility at the last minute. I haven't used a caterer in years! I knew Caraluzzi's offered this service, so whom better to trust my food preparation with? I ordered Meatballs, sausage. ziti. Salads, potato salad, coleslaw. 3ft. grinder, cold cut platter, penne broccoli chicken marsala. roles. deserts. These foods were cooked to perfection! Everyone at the gathering complimented me on my choice of Caterers. I explained that I think their food is the best and my husband is always bragging about how I'm such a great cook! I recently started going to this market and I am truly impressed by it. They have a wonderful variety of items. I particularly like their fish and meats. Yesterday, while shopping there, a butcher named Phil assisted me. He was competent and helpful. The staff at the deli is also very efficient. The store is clean and organized. We were having a 70th birthday party and wanted to get catering from Caraluzzi's. It's clean and bright inside. Plenty of parking outside. Very friendly employees. There is a small section with seating where you can get a coffee and sit. Lots of Italian specialties including a cheese section. Our catering order was ready at the pickup time. We got a few different items that were delicious. I loved the wrapped mozzarella. It was a little pricier than expected but sometimes the quality is better if you pay a little more. Honestly, nice little store offering some of the best local produce and a nice clean deli. Hours are convenient as they are open from 7 am to 10 pm and parking altho ample is a bit of a horrific set up (this lot is for the entire strip) Lots of young kids work here and sometimes they do get consume d in "their chats" but pleasant overall. Butchers are really nice and always looking to accommodate. Prices used to be a pinch better but still not bad. Their pre made foods are not for me and the bakery is just ok but most are very pleased with it-as a good cook and an even better baker, this does suit my needs but for everything else, they are great. read more

I enjoy this local market it truly had a variety of food for all to enjoy. I was extremely happy with the produce it was fresh and delish. I purchased some blueberries, huge naval oranges, strawberries, and apples as this is a big snack staple for my family. I also found some gluten ( crackers, cookies) free items as a person in my family has Celiac Disease. The market is large and kept extremely clean. Also aisles were market well to identify were all products are located perfect for the customer. read more

Tried the brisket today. That was a no go. Very dry and not. Very good smoke flavor. 16$ a LB and that's with the carrots and potatoes. Similar to dried out roast beef. Wouldn't recommend for the price. Sorry. read more

During covid, the market went out of its way to accommodate shoppers with pickup and delivery...it turned me into a loyal caraluzzis shopper. over the last several months the produce seemed to go bad waaay sooner than expected so my shopping went from a weeks' worth to only a couple of days' worth to avoid spoilage, a pain in the butt, but i continued my shopping as usual. this morning i opened a box of strawberries (4.99) I purchase yesterday morning and half were rotten...not the first time, there has been broccoli with mold, mushrooms that are complete mush and salad that belonged in the compost pile, in the meat and dairy there are lots of past date items used as fill on the shelves. The fish department, which was pristine when chris worked it, looks like a disaster that has already happened. maybe i'll shop the new store on mill plain, maybe Ill try labonnes or the big y...but i would and will stay away from the newtown location due to its rapid decent into a one star review read more

Extremely over priced grocery store, surprised they are still in business. A lot of stale expired food and the food they sell "fresh" tastes terrible. Would not recommend stopping here, the big y across the street has more options and fresher food than this place does. The Caraluzzi family has done a great job expanding their local grocery stores in Fairfield County, and this is their third location, which offers additional amenities like prime meats, a full-service cheese counter, and a cafe with Wi-Fi. Service is always top-notch, and the layout of the grocery store as well as the way they categorize items is thankfully intuitive. As a vegan, sometimes it's hard to find some of the more niche products that are only carried at specialty stores, but I've been consistently impressed with their selection of healthier options, local products, and new releases. For instance, Ben & Jerry's only recently put out a number of new flavors as well as their Pint Slices, and yet everything is already carried at this location. Though they are a little pricier than other chain grocery stores and considering they are family-owned, for the quality products and experience I would much prefer coming here than, say, the Big Y across the street. As a Newtown resident, this is my mom's go-to grocery store, and I definitely stop by with her whenever I'm in the area. read more

Wow..Nice store, super clean, attractively and fully stocked. We found quite a few items here that we haven't been able to find locally. They have a nice selection of olive oil and found the french olive oil we use which is sometimes difficult to find. There is a coffe bar and an offering of sweet treats incase you are in need of a caffine or sugar fix . We purchased a box of mini black and white cookies (made in NY) that taste the way black and white cookies are supposed to taste. They are one of the few pre made processed items that I will still indulge in. Nice selection of cheese, although no comparison to Liuzzi's in North Haven. We will definitely do more of our shopping here for items that Stop and Shop , Shop Rite and others do not stock. read more

This place gives you the service and quality of a high end grocery store but with prices that are competitive to the huge chains. Got fresh? Well, Caraluzzi's has it all! First time shopper in this store, I was amazed at the organization, selection, friendly, helpful staff and the sheer choices of superior products! The fish case was brimming with glistening fresh, wild caught fish at very reasonable prices! The meat dept. is exceptional with super fresh, well marbled beef selections. Try their deli, chock full of favorite brands and all kinds of fresh meats and cheeses. The "wall," as my sister calls it, is filled with prepared foods with everything from meatballs, pasta, carrot souffle and every kind of well prepared foods you can buy! The other thing that was so impressive was the staff! Super nice, friendly counter personnel, cashiers and even the person that bagged my groceries were extremely polite, with a clearly positive attitude! You just can't find this at any other local store, especially the shop/stop stores that are dirty and sell rotten produce. Nice market not so great inventory of products. Does however have a nice selection of local and quasi local brands. They always are very accommodating listening to your requests but none ever make it to the shelves. About six months ago I purchased Edam cheese in a wax ball. When opened it was heavily covered in mold and was has as a rock. Vowed never to buy cheese there again. Monday I purchased a cup of organic yoghurt and opened it today, April 19. The expiration on it was 3/1/17. It was covered in a thick crust. Yes, I should have looked but I count on the market to replace stock regularly. This market is family owned and operated- a family of morons. It's too bad, but they just do not know how to run a business. read more

This is my favorite grocery store in Newtown. The atmosphere is attractive and friendly and they have a respectable selection of both gourmet and standard items. Prices are pretty good too compared with the other places in our area (if this is your first visit you should get a Caraluzzi's card for discounts as soon as you walk in). I hope the corny music doesn't get on your nerves (though it's better than the standard grocery store fare in my opinion). read more

Clean. Great selection. This store carries lots of items that I haven't been able to find at most Connecticut markets. The meat and fish are fresh and the counter people are generally courteous and helpful I live several miles away and have to drive right past other supermarkets to get here, but it is certainly worth the trip. Grocery stores just don't get any cleaner and nicer than this. The management is top notch, always there for you and helpful, the cashiers are friendly and smiling, and the store is lovely. The bakery and hot foods are actually GOOD. The front-of-store cafe, with its Italian pastries and coffees, is a pleasure, facing big picture windows. Just a lovely experience to shop there, overall. Nice store and nice employees, but every time I go in, the place smells like baby diapers/sewage. The cashier at the check-out counter today was very patient w/ a woman who kept complaining about the hassle of using a paper check at the check-out. She was polite even though the woman was grumpy and saying how much she hated the store. I didn't dare ask about the baby-diaper smell and test her patience some more, LOL. read more
