After living (part time) in Danbury for almost six years, I finally went to Stew Leonard's and I can't believe I've been missing out! This is more than a grocery store, it's an experience. I'll have to go back because my first time I was overwhelmed by all there was to see and do. First, there were a lot of sample stations so I loved that. Next, there are so many interactive displays with chickens singing and flowers playing instruments...also someone dressed as a cow was schmoozing with toddlers. I got some great food there and the prices also seemed reasonable. Their bakery section stood out to me as well as their dairy. Stew Leonard's Danbury Store review update: Once again Marianne's Squeaky Wheel Gets Greased! I'm definitely a squeaky wheel and was very happy that my Coach Gary encouraged me to request a free replacement for the Stew Leonard's Mugs I did not receive. After being deceived by the original delivery that had a Stew Leonard's label and return address of their Danbury Store, I found out from the store manager Dan that the packaging and mailing are the responsibility of Goldbelly! He said they most likely used the Danbury Store because it was the closest. He said he would contact Goldbelly and obtain a free replacement for me. Naturally after several days I didn't hear from Goldbelly. I went back to my original complaint ticket number and explained that the store manager said he would contact them. They immediately responded and took care of me. The two free mugs were one white and one red with packaging that was very secure and they were delivered quickly! Four Stars for Stew Leonard's Danbury Store because they knew I was a customer since they opened their first store! I made sure I told the manager. Omg this supermarket is food HEAVEN. Its HUGE. I stopped in today, after my checkout from a hotel near by. At first It was a bit overwhelming, but once you take your time, and ask the associate's questions you'll be fine . The associate's are so friendly and kind . Everything you can think of, stew's sells it. I got some groceries to take back home, as they had Maine lobster tails on sale and more . My husband and I also got dinner from the hotel food section which is also GIGANTIC. The supermarket is well kept and very clean . I think I've found a new love lol, and I'll definitely be returning. If you live in Connecticut I don't see how you wouldn't love Stew's. This has been a staple of mine since I was a kid. It is food heaven. They have everything you could possibly be grocery shopping for, as well as hot foods and ready meals to take home, and an ice cream bar. I recently went to get my Christmas tree and the process was so easy. The trees are all pre-cut and after you pick one, an employee quickly runs over to help carry it over to the wrapping station. They wrap it and do a fresh cut of the stump, and then give you a ticket to pay with. We walked around the grocery store and shopped while they held onto our tree. We paid with our ticket at checkout, and then we simply had to drive around the building for pick up. They did all of the work -- threw the tree in the back of our truck, and in other cases strapped it to people's cars. The process is super quick and easy, and I appreciate how helpful they are! read more

This was my first time here! This place is a dream come true. I needed more time to look around so I will definitely be back! I could smell fresh apple cider donuts as soon as I walked in. Followed by protein shakes and ice cream. There were samples around the store that I found so fun! Everything was so fresh and I thought the prices were good! I've been going to Stew's for years because of the quality meats, seafood, and produce. The prepared meals and salads are quite good too. Produce can be a little pricey if not on sale, but then again, this place has quality products. The staff working there are always helpful and pleasant. I like Stews produce A LOT, but...Cowboy PRIME ribeye burgers. Just bad, no flavor, paid $16.99 a pound for these babies and cooked them med/medium rare in DUCK fat for jimmeny crickets! so the price was NOT an issue. waste, dry- i guess not dry, but ugh, wet flavorless, cardboardy chew, so I definately won't buy the PRIME Rib Eye Steak that they "said" they were ground from. Haven't been shopping here in a long time but our road trip took us to Danbury and we had to stop by. It's advertised as the world's largest dairy store. The store is clean and bright with food product stations throughout the store as well as some cute anamatronics, As one enters there are the baked goods section, coffee bean area, then cheeses, bagels by the lox , fish and seafood, fresh fruit and veggies, meats, pasta and sauces , flowers and plants, and so on as you walk on food route so to speak. Staff is always friendly. We bought a bunch of non perishables with the Stew Leonard's brand to enjoy. One can find the basic to gourmet food products here. A bit pricey and not always the best for specific household items, but lots of creative things to choose from. Some of my favorites are the chipotle dip and the ice cream! It's the third time in a row that I find chicken skins hidden under chicken tights! I buy the tights with the skins, but I certainly don't want to pay extra for the skins you took off for skinless tights which are more expensive! Hide one or two here and there and you CHARGE your customers even more!!! It is unacceptable and frankly, a scam! The sushi has sugar and other carcinogenic chemicals. I have no idea why they choose to put this crap in their sushi. The salmon in the sushi is sushi farm raised. To control sea lice, the salmon industry has historically used chemical treatments and pesticides - including some that kill crustaceans like lobsters. My favorite place to shop and excited about getting food to cook or prepared food. Noted by Fortune as top place to work, I am glad for the employees who are always busy making things run smoothly. The vibe is almost like NYC with a lot going on with the food, but the people around are nice and keep to themselves. I didn't take pics but there many pic worthy items from desserts to unique creations. The flowers look amazing but by the time I get to them I don't feel like spending more money. I am in love with Stew Leonards. The Danbury location is special as the establishment has it's own petting zoo across the parking lot next to Walgreens. The petting zoo features goats, chickens, and ducks. The store itself is large and adorned with hanging knick-knacks of barn animals that can sing and dance with a push of a button. The produce is stacked together neatly in bins. Everything is fresh beginning from meat and ending with vegetables. There is a large variety of premade food to choose from. The service is professional and prompt as cashiers ring patrons out at the registers. The staff is quick with serving patrons coffee, ice cream, and smoothies. read more

This is a great place to shop with little kids! Plenty of buttons to push and cute little motorized puppet shows throughout the store! I was last here as a teenager and remembered it vividly, so I brought my little girls while on a road trip and they loved it. I've always loved shopping at Stew Leonards. When I lived in New York, there was one five minutes from my house. When I moved to Connecticut, I found out there was one located in Danberry. Huge parking lot, just be careful when driving. The aisles are narrow and some people can't drive. The store is supposed to go in one direction, or at least that's what I have assumed over the years. Be wary of random shoppers flying the wrong way with their carts. The store is a little pricey for certain items, but you get what you pay for. All of their fresh foods are top quality. Their prepared foods are always a hit. Very good recipes and ingredients make their food stand out. They sometimes have samples but not when I went today. Lots of little entertainment for the kids as they are stuck there with their parent shopping. They've added a self check out to let the process go a little smoother.
