I had a birthday celebration on the last weekend of July 2024, and hired Mr. Mendell for this party. He was very professional from setting up the date, plan for activities at the event with specific magic tricks related to the birth date or age (my choice), and giving ideas on how have the best entertainment for my guests. He provided a formal contract, contacted me 4-5 days ahead to confirm once more, and kept in constant communication up to the day of the event. He provided a great idea which was to get a deck of cards for each of my guest and during his show he would teach them a trick. I hosted an event - a fundraiser for Children's Memorial Hospital - this past weekend. In advertising the event, I came across a member of the Magician's union who offered his services for the families and friends' children who would be attending the event, to walk around and do tricks. He wrote me later and told me he'd be unavailable to help but that he'd ask his union members. Rob was the only one who showed up. One dark Friday night I was making my way home from work on the 'ol Brown Line el train and stumbled in from the Southport platform. Locationally, I was crammed near one of the doors of the train next to two gentlemen. After "doors closing", the seemingly unassuming gentlemen next to me pulled out a deck of cards, caught the attention of the gentlemen across from him and motioned for him to draw a card. The gentlemen across, a bit hesitant, looked closely at the gentlemen with the cards. He was wearing a t-shirt, glasses, some sneakers and a deck of cards, all of which prompted the fact that he wasnt hustling money from anybody. Quite the contrary. The man begin to spin in and out of card tricks, flawlessly playing through each trick. Being a nosey urbanite, I became a part of the tricks and was blown away.
