Funny how you never go into a place in your area and then you do and wonder-"Holy Crap!! Why…read morehaven't I gone in here before??" Jim's Liquors is just that kind of place. When you walk in you are (or at least I was...) amazed at how much is crammed into this store. The aisles are jammed with many familiar and some not so familiar adult beverages and the mixers that love them.They had a few surprises for me-Amarone,one of my favorites! And.....it was not $60/bottle-shhhh,keep that one under your hats until I score a few more bottles! In fact, the prices were better than Binny's and even some other liquor purveyors.They had some high end and some low brow booze. A very wide variety.I saw some folks buying Olde English 800 40 oz's and some folks buying some Snow Queen vodka-so a huge range of tastes and prices that are some of the best in the area! So...why not 5 stars?? I'll hold back on that for another time,let me return and see how it goes!

Yesterday, someone invited me for a beer at Poor Phil's, which was closed at the time, so they changed the location to The Beer Shop, not realizing my dog issue. I was feeling brave, so I went in! Thankfully, no allergic reaction. There was only one small dog there while I was there, about 30 minutes, and the dog only walked by once, while leashed. A few tables with kids playing board games. A few folks at the bar. I really dug the vibe, and if it was pet-free, I'd totally come here more often! The bartender was super duper friendly, really cool. I got a cider on tap, and there were non-alcohol options as well, even saw a canned Diet Coke- my favorite!! I realize I'm not their ideal customer, with my dog challenges. If you have a dog, this looks to be the perfect spot for you! I wish I could visit again, but I think I'll pass as dogs barking indoors make me startle, cry, and flee. But I had a good experience yesterday.

When we went to check out we were told that our purchase did not qualify for the case discount because it was on sale. There was no notice that it was on sale. NOTHING! It has been this price for a very long time. When questioned, we were told that that was what was on the register so that was what we got. No discount. We have spent hundreds of dollars there and this was very upseting.

My partner recently purchased a substitute for chartreuse from Portland there, which he is enjoying immensely, and we found a bottle of white port last time we were in which was a lovely change. Their beer selection is massive with a big emphasis on the local Chicago and Midwest beers. I can always count on them to have the latest releases from great breweries like Hop Butcher, Saint Errant, Transient, etc. Plus, they've got a huge selection of beers from Maine Brewing!
