We decided to stop in Dandrige overnight and catch some zzzs before making the final leg the following day. It was the 4th of July and we came across the Dandridge dock while searching for some dinner. We got out to take a look and wow, the view of Douglas Lake was so beautiful that evening. It has a long walkway and at the end of it, there are Adirondack chairs for people to sit on. There were several people taking their boats out or coming in, families fishing, and other people like ourselves taking in the view. Definitely worth taking a few minutes to take a peek when staying in or around Dandridge or simply passing through. Stay safe, Friends!

Driving north of SR-70 (Asheville Highway), I crossed the bridge and my eye was drawn to the dam to…read morethe east. Thankfully, there is a turnoff and I was able to get a proper look at the dam. A little further, a road turns to the right and it curves back under the dam and leads down to the riverside. A few pickup trucks were parked as people are using the dam for some intense fishing. The dam was built by the Tennessee Eastern Electric Company in 1912-1913 and generates hydroelectricity. It was later purchased by the Tennessee Valley Authority who improved it to the point where it was able to generate 10,640 kilowatts of electricity. Unfortunately, the area became too blocked with sediment and the generators were taken offline in 1972. The dam and reservoir are now used for flood control and recreation. The Sinks is a lovely waterfall along the river. There is a small parking lot with about a dozen spaces where we found parking. An observation area is a short walk from parking. A sign describes the area and that the falls were manmade. During the late 1800's the river was used to transport logs/timber to the nearby town of Elkmont. After a storm, flood waters caused a jam in the river. Dynamite was used to restore water flow. The blast resulted in a twist in the river and creation of the waterfall. A set of stone steps leads up a hill, offering lovey views of the falls. There are dozens of waterfalls in the Park. Sinks is one of the few that is drivable, which is great for people that cannot hike. I picked up a Waterfalls map at the visitor center that I found interesting and informative. Parking passes are required to park in the lot. There are no amenities at the falls. Plan 15-30 minutes for a stop and photos.

Highly recommend stopping by if you have a kid and need to let them run and play a bit or if you're looking for something free to do. Also, be sure to walk down and look at the trout in the area near the restrooms.

Cedar trees, cattails, and berry bushes are all in close proximity. The main walking path to the island is ADA compliant. If you'd like elevation, this park is on the edge of the Appalachian mountains allowing you to hike up and view the Smoky Mountains. I prefer short hikes and found many trail options. If you're a bird watcher or a novice, you're sure to learn something from the educational bird exhibits near the parking lot. Check the park's social media for educational events. This park isn't too crowded and requires back roads through neighborhoods. Indoor restrooms are available near the parking lot.

They do not have a public restroom, but when our mom had an urgent need, the staff kindly allowed her to use one, which we really appreciated. Friendly service, a well-stocked shop, and a great stop for anyone heading out to fish in the Smokies.

Service was laid back and friendly. Got lots of fun snacks here, mostly. Wasn't able to find a beef summer sausage - they had other varieties, but no all-beef. And Triscuits are hard to find for me outside of big box stores. But we still stopped by here twice. And we enjoyed the shop cat, Pierre!
