After a few days the server didn't need to ask anymore he just brought me a cappuccino when I sat down. That is probably the biggest breakfast buffets I have ever seen. The downstairs spa was a bit small, but enjoyable nonetheless, with steam room, sauna, and simple hydrotherapy stations. All in all this was the best accommodations we had our entire 10 day trip throughout Italy. Will gladly stay here again! The staff, service, location, amenities and facility were all stellar!

Fantastic hotel…read more Immediately upon walking in, it smells fresh and clean. You are greeted by the front desk and while not all of them are friendly and accommodating. Most of them were. I'd say the 4/5 that we dealt with during our entire 4 day stay here were great. We had a 3 night reservation here with a package from Groupon for traveling from the states to Paris and Rome. And this was our best hotel out of the two cities. However, we don't know the pricing or how much one night stay is. We were very pleased. They made an error on our reservation when first arriving, but immediately fixed it with no issues. The room is so clean and very modern. It's a tad tight for two single people, but it's very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious, clean and very nice. The only downfall is the shower door only covered half the tub, so when I showered, water would get all over the floors. Otherwise, excellent room. Our stay included free WiFi and continental breakfast. The WiFi didn't work very well from our room, so we had to stay in the lobby when needing to really use WiFi consistently. Otherwise, it was very slow and took forever to load anything. The breakfast is decent. They have a restaurant that is open for dinner 3 hours a night, and it was very good. We ate here every night because we loved it so much. While the menu was limited, the prices were very reasonable and the food was very fresh. We had all their seafood dishes and were very pleased with the quality. Would definitely come back if in Roma!

Worst place I've ever stayed in my life. Yesterday morning we were awoken at 5 AM to an alarm in…read morethe hallway and the smell of smoke. We opened the door and the smoke smell was overwhelming. We rushed to the front desk to ask what was going on and were told "do not worry. It's a faulty alarm. Just go back to bed." When we pointed out that there were now mounds of smoke filling the hallway, the man at the front desk screamed "oh shit" and ran off. Rather than bang on people's doors and try to get them out, he kept just running back and forth doing nothing. We got ourselves outside and finally someone- not him- called the fire department. People were still being evacuated- and choking from the fumes that were still coming out- an hour and a half after we first notified him. We were outside for almost two hours when a previous tour we had booked to Tuscany picked us up. While gone we found out via Google news- not from the hotel- that the hotel was evacuated. When we arrived back that night, no lights were on, but because they give you a key we were able to get in. We only went in because we had stuff there and were leaning on a flight early the next morning. Upon entering, we saw every door flung open and it looked like the place had been ransacked. Oddly enough, sitting at the front desk was the night attendant who greeted us with a "good evening" as if nothing was wrong. We were obviously unnerved and rushed to our room to quickly gather out stuff, which luckily was still there and very easily could have been robbed. Upon exiting, I gave the key back to the man and told him we were not planning on paying for this. He said "of course you won't pay me. You'll pay the owner." I said "no, we're not paying anyone, as this was an awful experience." I tried to explain that I wasn't upset by the fire, as things happen, but by the way it was handled. He quickly cut me off to tell me it didn't matter, as everyone was okay. I said that they wouldn't have been okay if we had listened to the person at the desk and gone back to bed, as we- among others- would have died or had major issues from the smoke. He then raised his voice and started screaming at me, telling me I was the only one who complained the entire day, and then wagged his finger in my face, yelling, "you are the one with the problem, not the hotel." We ended up leaving, but suffice it to say this is the worst experience I've ever had in a hotel. If you care about your safety, your well being, and being treated well on a trip, then do yourself a favor and AVOID this awful place at all costs.

If you are wanting to stay at a full-service, Hilton branded hotel property while in Rome without…read moregoing bankrupt doing so, The Doubletree Hotel by Hilton Rome Monti would be a solid choice. By Rome standards for a full-service hotel, it would be considered affordable by many. But just to be clear, it is not ultra-inexpensive. For the money, it is firmly in the 4-star hotel genre (getting a 5-star Yelp rating from me within this category because I could find nothing wrong with it during my stay). So, while it may not have crystal chandeliers and butlers running around, it is definitely not a student tourist level hostel. It has modern, comfortable public spaces, elevators that hold more than 2 people at a time, a restaurant with a good breakfast spread, and well-appointed guest rooms with modern amenities and AC. I really don't need more than that when I am traveling solo for business so it was perfect for me given that set of circumstances. As a comparison, I have stayed at a 5-star Rome hotel which was absolutely a step up in terms of service, luxury features, and a sense of a personal attention. But when I am alone on business, that level of service is not necessary and can feel uncomfortable to me. There are plenty of cafe's and restaurants within a 10 min walk and it is a reasonable walk to attractions such as the Opera House, the Coliseum, and the Trevi Fountain. It is also a 10-minute walk to the main terminal Rome train station and the cool, local Nuovo Mercato Esquilino if you are into that type of thing like I am. I spent early mornings walking somewhere for coffee and then through the Mercato to watch the vendors work to ready their produce and meat to be pawed over by early restauranteurs which was a cool look at the underbelly life of this great city. I really liked that this hotel is not right up against the busy street and, on at least 2 sides of the building, there are streets that are not constantly jammed with the noise of traffic. My room fronted one of the quiet sides. It is unclear to me if I was upgraded to a nicer than standard room location because of my Hilton loyalty status but I had a very quiet stay in a room that was impeccably clean and could be easily darked out during the day if I needed a restorative nap for my jet lag. The gym was reasonably appointed and open 24/7 and the wi-fi speed was top notch. I had a great stay here for the money. Based on all of this, when in Rome in the future as a solo business traveler, I would be very happy to stay here again.

That made the location extremely convenient. The hotel sits a short walk from Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Pope Francis is buried. Some areas near the main train station are often described as unsafe by Italian standards. We did not experience that near the hotel. Tourists and locals were out late, and the neighborhood stayed active into the evening. Rome is compact and easy to navigate. Most major attractions felt reachable within about 20 minutes by taxi, bus, or rail. We tried to visit the Trevi Fountain at 10:00 pm to avoid crowds. That plan failed completely(see pic). It was packed. Locals eat later than in the U.S., and many parts of the city stay busy well into the night. Restaurants remain open late. A note for U.S. travelers. European hotel rooms run smaller for the price. Even using Hilton points, our room would have cost close to $700 per night USD and felt small. The hotel offers a pleasant rooftop bar and a spacious lobby with multiple seating areas. The buffet breakfast was a solid, comfortable way to start the day. It was included for us as Hilton Diamond members. I am unsure of the cash price. Overall, the location and amenities make this a smart pre-cruise choice, especially for travelers relying on rail connections.

The restaurant was still open so we made a b-line down to the lobby to find SOMETHING! We were pleasantly surprised! Everything was great! Bathrooms are tiny, literally couldn't sit straight on the toilet. Also the shower drain was working properly so there was always some puddles water whilst showering. Finally, the last two nights - for some mysterious reason - hot water wasn't working, mostly got tepid/warmish water; so wouldn't recommend during the winter months. Not good for handicapped or elderly visitors as there are no elevators and stairs are pretty intense. Can't talk about the quality of the free breakfast because I never woke up on time to make it down there (until 9:30am). Bed was ok but pillows were hard as rocks, so take an advil on the first night unless you wish to wake up with a wicked headache. Finally, lots of noise in the morning from the maid(s) kept shouting in italian to each other (every day for 5 consecutive mornings) and making lots of noise whilst sweeping. We had a reservation for 4 nights but we moved out after the first one, forfeiting a substantial amount of money and I still think it was worth moving out. The rooms, if we can call them that without insulting hotels worldwide, are tiny holes. A room for two is the same as a room with a double bed, two beds are not an option. The air conditioning can only be turned off or on by the receptionist, any time you wish to do so you have to contact him. If it's on, this last century machine begins to roar with the ferocity of a lion that just got kicked in the balls and proceeds to freeze the room to inhuman temperatures. There is no temperature control available. The other option is to cook in the summer heat. The walls are thin. The construction right outside the window (not kidding, the window opened to a scaffolding where workers walked by and worked on the facade of the building right in front of our "room" on the 3rd floor) included hammering and drilling. If anybody within a 10 room radius flushed I could clearly hear it. The "bathroom" was a tiny toilet room, barely fit in size for even that purpose (about 1m by 2m in size). They had the audacity to call this a bathroom because they had a shower head installed on the wall and a drain on the floor and a shower curtain. No shower tray, no door, nothing to keep the water from flowing directly to the room and sprinkling all over the toilet paper if one were to attempt to take a shower. The room had no overhead light, only a small wall mounted lamp that provided less light than a flashlight could have. This whole thing, for the lack of a better word, is located in the middle of a filthy backstab ghetto of Rome, about 10 minutes from the clean, tourist friendly part of the town. The "breakfast" was served in a tiny room on the 2nd floor. It involved 2 pieces of croissants from plastic plates. Choices of drinks were water, orange juice and coffee, the first two from tiny plastic cups. When we arrived we were graciously allowed to decide who gets the last chocolate croissant, the rest got the 1 other kind. I would rather not speculate on the origin of these croissants. The only silver lining was that the receptionist was polite and spoke English relatively well. My recommendation is to avoid this place if there is a room anywhere else and choose a different city it there isn't.
