It made me feel right at home! The visit itself was amazing. Dr. Schwenn did an amazing work up with x-rays (more than I've seen any chiropractor do), a weight bearing test to see how your alignment was, and a test for spinal inflammation to see exactly how your body is positioned. I liked the extensiveness of her work on me. She actually found some arthritis in my neck and upper back that no one else had mentioned before. The adjustment was awesome as well. Before I went to Dr Schwenn, I thought I was a hard person to adjust because it always took it insane amount of pressure from other chiropractors to get my spine to move. Dr Schwenn uses brain, not bran to get the results that we need. at one point she was working on my lower back/tailbone area she used an adjustment table that fell down underneath my stomach. My problem was I had anxiety for no reason it seemed. Anytime I ate any food I was immediately bloated and felt so much pressure in my gut. This too caused me to become anxious. I could not stand living like this anymore. I would have panic attacks for no reason while trying to sleep, or after eating while at work. I knew this wasn't normal and I wanted my life back. Come to find out my diagnosis was dysbiosis. Dysbiosis is an imbalance of microorganisms in the body, often in the gut, which can result from factors like poor diet and antibiotics. It can have an impact on your gut-brain axis. Gut-brain axis dysbiosis occurs when the balance of gut bacteria is disrupted, negatively impacting the bidirectional communication between the gut and the brain. This imbalance can increase gut permeability, leading to inflammation that affects the brain and is linked to mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. I needed to eat better and STOP USING ANTIBIOTICS. Originally my problems with my gut led me to a western medicine doctor at Unity Point. I told him my symptoms and said that this was not normal, then he literally said that I was fat and needed to lose weight, and to take some antibiotics and anxiety/depression medicine. I was not fat, I was bloated! I told him that when I'm not bloated, I don't look "fat", and I feel zero pressure in my gut. He didn't seem to listen and just dealt me drugs. I don't call that a doctor at all! What I did to improve my diet was follow a program that Dr. Otto put me on to clean me out. He said I had Biofilm buildup on in my gut. This program was not the easiest, but I'm glad I did it. I ate very clean, organic food, meat with zero antibiotics, NO ADDED SUGARS, and took regular supplements. Also, no alcohol. I did this for about 6 weeks, and I was healed! What I was eating before, and what I thought was a good diet was actually not. You do need to watch out for non-organic foods, stuff with added sugar, meat with antibiotics, etc. Also, need to limit your alcohol consumption. All of those, along with taking the antibiotics from the "drug dealer" screwed up my gut even more. Also, my 1-year-old son would get ear infections. Right away the "drug dealer" doctors would give him antibiotics. This would mess up other things with him. Dr. Otto said don't do that, and to use a few drops of a particular garlic oil in his ear. Healed my son right up! We also chose to not vaccinate my son; he has never seen a needle. It was the best decision we made. Never throws a fuss and is not brain washed from the vaccines the "drug dealers" pump in children's bodies today. The human body is a powerful system. But if you put junk into it, you will become junk. If you put good nutrition into it, you will feel normal and amazing. I trust anything Dr. Otto says about what is and is not good for the human body. You are supposed to treat problems in the human body with natural things that God provided us with. His chiropractic care focuses on the nervous system too, which is the backbone of every function in the human body. He uses low force care, so you don't feel beat up afterwards. He has healed my slipped discs in my back, taken care of neck discomfort that causes dizziness. He will also use a little jar that has various energy levels from different materials in it. I originally was really thrown off by this, because it seemed weird to me. I called it string theory or something. But whatever he does with it, it helps guide him by seeing certain body and nervous system responses from holding these jars, and then he knows what to do from there. It is new to me, but I go with it. It is his tool, and it works somehow. I will always see him for my chiropractic care, and nutritional guidance. He is an actual healer. I told my wife that for the first time in ten years, I have hope. Long Version: I came to Dr. Otto out of desperation and in chronic pain. He is incredibly intelligent and inquisitive. Both are essential when trying to unravel the cause(s) of the symptom(s) that have persisted for many years. Specifically, my primary complaint was chronic migraines, averaging 13 per month. The meds my neurologist had me on would make me as sick as the migraines. There has to be a better way. Within the first hour Dr. Otto identified a head injury that had been previously undiagnosed, even with MRI/CT scans. He just kept asking questions and listening to the patient, trying to connect the dots. At first, I was skeptical of chiropractic, but after seeing immediate progress I just started doing what I was supposed to be doing and tracking the subsequent improvement. It all started when he decided to do my Traumatic Brain Injury exam the day the Derecho hit Cedar Rapids, 10/10/2020. It was a horrible mistake I would have to pay for the next 2 years. The hospital sustained $400,000 damage and had no power, yet he did my exam with a clip board. Failing to write down nearly all my symptoms, obviously distracted from the days events. He is a paid doctor who does veteran C&P exams, a huge conflict of interest for any veteran from the start, yet alone add 140mphs winds to the mix. He failed to list a single residual I had from over a hundred documented blast injuries. I gave him everything listed on a single piece of paper and he failed as a doctor to list even a single one. He single handedly railroaded my entire health care from that point on. Fast forward 2 years to present time. I have been have had multiple seizures & have broken multiple teeth during these seizures. I have no dental insurance because of his pathetic exam. So I am forced to deal with the pain of broken teeth and swollen gums. I was forced to pay $4800 out of my own pocket to fix my teeth, when it is clearly a military injury. But because of his pathetic exam & because the VBA (Veterans Benefit Administration, or my new acronym Veterans Below Average ) accepts every form of evidence to deny veterans claims. The VBA jumped all over his exam and granted me $133 a month because the exam was inadequate. Dr Mathew and the VBA should be embarrassed of themselves. This is why so many veterans kill themselves. I hope you are proud Dr. Mathew as you provided absolutely no rational for your decision, admitted fault in multiple emails, but nevertheless accepted his money from the VA to give me a exam that has ruined my life and has never made a attempt to fix it.
