I stumbled on the cutest children's boutique in Oak Park. Upstairs features smaller sizes (I saw sizes up to 8, but mostly toddler sizes). Downstairs is "the vault", which features sizes up to 14/16 with sales up to 40% (maybe more depending on the time of the year). The vault is sectioned by sizes. At the bottom of the stairs is a clearance size with the discount percentage for the entire room. I visited in early October 2024 and there were many discounted spring/summer styles, with a few sweaters and sweatpants options. There's a couch in the middle of the floor to take a break or for your children so you can shop uninterrupted. The fitting room is upstairs toward the back of the store. Enjoy cute trinkets near the check-out register, plus the cutest wrapping paper that can be purchased. Sarah, the buyer and manager I believe, was so sweet and helped me hide some gifts from my daughter after she identified things she wanted. This is a cute store with some really adorable items. When I came in with my infant, I didn't find anything for her at this age; they seemed to have some newborn things and clothes for older kids. I may have just missed it, but I couldn't really find things in the six to nine months range. I was hoping to see a coat that might work for my daughter since her first winter is soon upon us, but came up empty. I'm not sure what their prices are so maybe that's good for me! Surprisingly there were more adults in here than kids; I only saw one other child in the store whilst we were here. One of the employees asked my girl's age and cooed over her a bit, which of course any mom loves! I wish I'd found some barrettes, since everyone assumes my daughter is a boy (I know that I shouldn't care, gender is a social construct, but it annoys me!) but the only barrettes they had seemed to have decorative pieces attached and I didn't want to have to concern myself that my daughter would start eating pieces of her hair decor. I'll follow their instagram account so that I can get an idea of what they carry or what new items they have, since I don't currently live close enough to Oak Park to drive here just to look around. read more

Spent the day perusing around Oak Park and walked into this gorgeous store and was IN LOVE. A little pricey, but everything is so gorgeous/cute/adorable and the decor/color schemes are so thoughtful. I wanted to buy everything and I don't even have kids. The book nook was my favorite because there's a lot of options for children's books with black and brown illustrations and not many stores have more than one or two. I'll definitely be back. They have a great selection of clothing, but most of it is on the pricier side. Good for special occasions! I love that they carry the Molo brand--my kid used to love wearing Molo until she started getting pickier about what she wore. The great thing about Sugarcup is that they also have a basement full of discounted and gently used clothing, which is great when you don't feel like spending full retail pricing. read more

Michelle Vanderlaan the owner of Sugarcup Trading Co went on to a BST Facebook group to sell a toy line called Maileg utilizing a "Make Me An Offer" scenario. Being that one of the items is no longer sold by the manufacturer the owner took to this particular Facebook group as it was designated for those that collect this brand of item. The owner posted on the group that the item that she had was "Brand New - Stored away". Initially the item was purchased on May 21st. After not receiving information that the package had been scanned 7 days later I reached out to the owner to inquire as to what was going on. She confirmed it had been shipped but would get back to me to find out what was going on. After waiting a business day to hear back, and not receiving information I reached out again in which she said her store associate had called and the woman at the post office said it wasn't there but on its way due to not getting scanned. The package was paid for on May 21st and according to post office information wasn't received until May 26th. Finally, the package arrived on June 8th. The package was a gift, in which everything expected to be new - was not. The items were severely damaged. I reached out to the store owner in which she said, she would refund it if I returned the item. Have you ever tried taking away a two year olds present from them? I explained that the item had already been given and would like to work out something so that there were no bad feelings on taking away a child's gift, and to right the wrong of damaged goods. I offered the idea of a 20% off discount - the owner said no, she would actually give me 30% off as a refund on June 8th. June 11th comes around and there's still no refund. So attempt to contact her mid morning and end up leaving a message with her store associate. June 12th middle of the day still had not heard anything- to which attempt at contact is made. At this point she decides she no longer wants to discount my item even when she already agreed. Why lie about discounting the item!? Why!? read more

Stopped in because the stuff in the window was cute, stayed because it's a great idea! Purchase things outright, or consign/trade-in new but unused items for points that you can use to purchase their items. Nice variety of eco-friendly clothing, toys, art supplies, books and more for babies and small kids. And have no fear, everything is durable, colorful and trendy. Prices are quite reasonable for the quality of items you will find here. I even found some cute stocking stuffer type items for the oder "kids" in my life like my husband :) Glad it came to Oak park, hope it lasts! read more

I am impressed. This is a very cool, trendy and fresh green, eco-friendly kids clothing and toy store. You can purchase the clothes outright or there is a consignment/bartering concept where you can trade your kids mint- condition clothes and/or toys for points towards the store's new fashion-forward, eco-friendly kids clothing and toys. It rivals the good, trendy kids' clothing stores in Bucktown and downtown, but a much better value by itself, and even a better value with the consignment/bartering point system. This is my favorite kids boutique. They have such a nice selection of clothing for girls and boys. The dresses for girls are absolutely gorgeous for special occasions. The sizes are infants to size 16 girls, boys up to size 12. You won't find cuter clothes anywhere. There is also a nice selection of head bands, bath products and some toys. The customer service is spot on. The gals working always know the merchandise and are will to help you pick out clothes, gifts, or toys, and they will wrap it for you too. They have a very nice selection of wrapping papers to choose from. And, you can't forget about their trading selection on the lower level. Great finds on gently used clothing and toys. It's just what Oak Park needed. So glad to have this store in our neighborhood. read more

I am in love with Sugarcup Trading. I strolled in hoping to find a cute baby shower gift and maybe something for my sidekick. I did buy some cute items and found a truly wonderful and inspiring shop. I was greeted immediately by a woman that I assume is the owner. Owner or not, she was very enthusiastic about the items in the store and gave me a bit of direction on items including the sales rack. (nice) I was left alone to browse (grateful for that because that's how I like to shop) and found some beautiful, colorful and well-made babies' and children's items. Upon talking to the owner (or not owner) some more, I found that not only can you buy the items outright, but they have a trading system for their clothes and toys. I'm still a little over-whelmed by the options, but basically, you can trade in their clothes and toys back to the store and accrue points for new items. They also take in other brand name clothing (check their website or FB page for the huge list) and they have special resale days for those as well. They have days where you can bring in clothing/toys for donation to children's charities. See, many options. My sidekick is almost 2, and I really wish I knew about STC sooner. Now the items are at boutique prices, but considering how you can trade or shop the sales rack, this shop is still worth a look. Environmentally friendly items, providing community service, friendly service, super-cute unique clothing and accessories. Plus it's located on Marion St in OP--great for shopping and good eats! 5 stars easily. read more

I requested concierge shopping around the holidays for family pictures. Their team picked out several matching outfits in the sizes I needed. They had them all ready for my review and made things super easy. They worked with my budget, colors, and provided suggestions. They were also able to find me a matching outfit from their Women's store right next store (16 Suitcases). I loved it so much, I just did it again. Cute stuff. The staff is very helpful and warm. I planned on spending a nice dime inside for my kid, until... I met (one of?) the owner(s?). Not the warmest encounter. Perhaps I looked out of place to her, because it certainly felt like it. I didn't know how else to look while browsing merch in the back, but her un-warm "May I help you?" and eye-roll made me uncomfortable. Needless to say, I left, never to return. This store is every Tween's fantasy! Mom and I wandered in in search of present's for my niece's 3rd birthday party that was the very next weekend The clothing selection was outstanding. They had tons of fantastic clothes for toddlers at a variety of price points. I found the real winner to be the trendy items for tweens. They had an entire section for tweens and such fantastic shoes. I found myself asking the sales rep how big a few pairs of shoes came to see if those strappy bright purple sandals they were selling came in an adult size 7.5! I did learn through my shopping experience that they offer a trade-in experience for certain brands of gently used clothing and toys. You receive points in return for your items that can be used to purchase new items. Customer service was a good experience as they were incredibly helpful from the moment we walked in and were willing to work with us as we changed our minds repeatedly while seeing one cute accessory after another then building outfits around a single pair of leggings or a pair of shoes only to find out they didn't have my niece's size, scrap the entire thing, find a new accessory, and begin again. read more

I told them I could have just bought the dress directly from Tea, or from Nordstrom for that matter, and they would have refunded my credit card. They told me they are glad I support local business. I have heard about this place for awhile but had not yet had a chance to check it out. Finally made it in today and it was worth the hype. The upstairs was lovely but the real gem is the second hand area in the basement. All top name brands in great condition. There was even a little play area where my 3 year old entertained himself while I shopped for him. I found 3 pairs of shorts and 2 shirts- all top brands for under $40. The lady working in the store was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back again! read more

A++ customer service. The staff really listens to and connects with the kids that come in, which counts for at least half of the success of this business. The economic portion of this venture needs a little work, though. The secondhand items have great prices but are very limited. Most of the things on display are new and can be quite pricey. My kids were disappointed with the relatively low value their trades earned them compared to the high price of the new items they wanted to buy. A bigger selection of used toys or more reasonably priced new items would make this place a much bigger hit for our family. I do love the empowerment this place gives kids, the staff could not be any more lovely, and it's a beautiful space. I hope it changes enough for our family to make this a usual stomping ground. read more

Stopped in and was pleasantly surprised! Another wonderfully unique and interesting shop for Oak Park. The selection of kids clothing was a bit limited, but made up for the quantity with quality. The staff was extremely helpful and freindly, despite a small purchase. Also, the trading concept holds a lot of promise and should make my kids much more interested in the shopping experience. I went to this Oak Park store on February 16 and found the windows papered over and I sign claiming they are temporary closed. Not sure why the windows would be papered over if this is a temporary closing but another sign did say that they were still accepting deliveries. However, the owners should be more forthright about what is going on-I wasted my time parking and walking over there. read more

I shop here frequently for gifts for birthday parties and new babies. I love the merchandise. My only complaint is that it can take FOREVER to get checked out. The owner cannot (or will not) talk and ring up at the same time, so numerous times I've waited with my items at the counter while she chats with someone else. I have four kids and very limited time to get my errands done. My suggestion is not to go here if you're in a rush or have limited time on your parking meter!
